Committed to Computer Information Science! Good Luck to everyone else
I was waitlisted 3/31 LAST year
Pre-nursing
27 ACT
3.77 GPA
For those inquiring about the waitlist process and regional campus experience:
I never heard from Ohio State since 3/31 UNTIL May 31st, 2018 that I was denied and offered a place at the regional campus I selected, Newark. Many of my friends who also were waitlisted did not hear until around this time as well. This does not mean you will not get in. The admission statistics fluctuate yearly based on the class applicants. I completely emphasize with how you feel or how your children feel. If you do have the ability to go elsewhere or if it’s not your top school, I would recommend. But if OSU was your dream school and you are determined to graduate from there (like me) it’s worth the wait and going to a regional campus.
Although going to Newark has not been ideal, there are positive aspects. It makes the transition to main a lot easier as they use the exact same aesthetics and technology. It is more personal with smaller classrooms and teacher-student interactions (my professors know who I am). I may go as far as to say it’s even slightly easier compared to some classes on main. And it really does fly by!! I promise!
Good luck to you, I hope for the best!
That is good to hear. Did you get a dorm? If not, what did you do? Did you get involved on campus in any activities or clubs?
@OSUhopeful1 Since I couldn’t accept my “admission to Newark” until 5/31 it was long after the lottery system for newark on-campus housing. I live in an off campus apartment. I’m not doing activities or clubs, there are ones available it’s just not my thing! They do always have something going on at campus i’ve been to plays and magician performances and free dinners ect!
I just removed myself from the waitlist to give all of you guys a better chance, not interested at all anymore. Good luck to all and hope it works out!
Wow!!! Just received my financial aid package, virtually no aid or scholarships whatsoever. Pretty disappointing considering the fact how much I want to go here. I’ve decided to go ahead and attend Mansfield regional campus… gives someone else the opportunity to get in from waitlist.
ACT: 27
OOS
Good Ec’s
Accepted
Yep. Red flags:
1st and only post
Very low scores / grades
“Internship at my fathers law firm”
“Tennis freshman year”
“not really my first choice”
“upset at how long they were making me wait”
“hard work does really pay off!!!”
All designed to upset other…yes, more deserving applicants who were declined. Or in scienceroxs term…be “mean”
“not really my first choice” - yet their user name is buckeyefan23
does anyone have first hand experience with housing at the newark or mansfield campus? yes, i know it is on my website but it is kind of unclear
I get that it’s probably fake but I think some of you are acting super entitled
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
IMO, it’s fake. As an FYI, if the college has not announced that decisions have been released and/or the poster claims an acceptance with absurdly low stats, I work under the assumption that any account that was created 5 nanoseconds before their first post and proclaims an acceptance is a spammer, and I will ban that account. Which is what I did here. As a point of record, the spammer created a duplicate account to post that little ditty, so I banned both accounts and most of the back-and-forth discussion questioning the veracity.
@taylor1212 I agree with you the housing info on the website doesn’t really give you a good sense of what the housing is like. My son attended Newark campus during 2016-17 school year. At that time, the on-campus housing consisted of 4 2-story apartment style buildings. They’ve since added a new traditional style residence hall as well. My son’s apartment was furnished, with basic kitchen supplies, 2 bedrooms (2 students/bedroom) and a bath.
Of all the regional campuses, Newark has the most housing and it’s a part of the campus. At Mansfield campus, there are apartment building houses similar to Newark’s, but there are fewer of them and the buildings are located further away from the main campus buildings. They’re actually separated from the campus by a woods and it makes them feel tucked away off from campus. That may be a good or bad thing, depending on what a student is looking for.
At Newark at least, they will require you to purchase a meal plan (which basically consists of dining dollars that can be spent at their cafeteria style dining facility, coffee bar or C-store and you pay for each food item you choose with said dining dollars). My son chose the smallest plan since he did have a full kitchen in his apartment, but the on-campus dining was nice for lunch or a snack when he didn’t want to go back to the “dorm.” I’m not familiar with Mansfield’s dining facility, but I know they have one.
To me, the Newark campus felt more like a small, traditional college campus in it’s arrangement of campus buildings and housing than the other regional campuses. It was a nice place for him to start out and transition from high school to college. Felt like a campus, smaller class sizes and more personal attention from professors as well as few or no TA’s teaching classes. Downside was that the place seemed to shut down on the weekends–including the dining facility and library! Maybe that’s changed in the last couple years, I don’t know.
@augie696 thank you! i have a few other questions if you don’t mind
do you know how he found his roommates? most colleges have facebook pages and tools set up, but i can’t seem to find anything for the regional campuses.
how exactly does the “lottery” system work? was there a certain deadline he had to reach in order to get his housing?
Doing a little research, the wait list is not that optimistic, last year OSU wait listed over 5000 students, 1200+ accepted to be wait listed and only 117 were admitted from the wait list. Be sure that you are accepting another school and paying the deposit, yes, you will lose your deposit if you get off the waitlist, but if not at least you have a school. Also, there will be no financial aid, they are only looking for the students with parents who can pay full price. It is disappointing, but make sure everyone has eyes wide open if you decide to stay in limbo land
according to the CDS, it says last year 852 students were admitted off the waitlist
2017-2018 - 852 out of 1283 accepted off the waitlist. 66%
2018-2019 - 117 out of 1222 accepted off the waitlist. 9.5%
Was on financial aid earlier and since I committed to regional campus it was different. The only thing available were federal student loans. When I clicked on the award tab, it said “awards under review.” I should be receiving the pell grant, would that be considered an award under that tab?
The application status says ‘wait offer’ but have not received any official email yet about how to accept my spot on the wait list. Does anyone else have the same issue?
@Indiguy You should have received an email with instructions on accepting your spot. If you want to accept a spot in the wait list call admissions immediately. I think the offer expires at some point.
