@STEM2017 I have not received any email from them regarding instruction to accept spot on wait list. So do I call them?
@Indiguy Yes, call them.
@taylor1212 I’m sorry, I’m not sure I remember enough about the lottery to help you. I know my son put his name in the lottery for housing. I believe it was in response to an email or mailing soon after he was admitted. We had to put down a deposit for the lottery that would have been refunded if he had not been given housing. But I believe all that was done before April. Like I said, I’m pretty certain he got some kind of correspondence from OSU-Newark asking if he wanted to be considered for housing; if yes, complete this form and send in a deposit.
As for roommates, he filled out a questionnaire on preferences and lifestyle (like was he a late nighter or an early morning person, etc). He chose not to look for roommates on his own, but ironically, he was put with someone he had known and with whom he had mutual friends, so that just happened to work out. Unfortunately, I don’t know if there was a Facebook group or not. That was not his thing at the time, so I doubt he would have been on it even if there was one.
I’m sorry, I can’t offer more insight! But happy to answer any other questions if I can
It’s really upsetting, when you know the exact date of every round, you wait through the entire night hoping that the word evaluation will change to be accepted. You check every day hoping maybe the day might be different. With each new round of confirmed applicants your hope shrinks. Friends at school celebrate their admission into OSU as you watch in silence knowing you applied weeks before they even though of doing so. The day finally comes when it’s the 26th of December and you believe that your decision has to come back by then. Still nothing changes, so you wait several days until the 31st with a constant churning in your stomach. The day passes as you become increasing stressed, until at 3:30 pm you see the word “deferred” instead of the usual “evaluation.” Your heart sinks as your hope disappears. You think to yourself maybe I will get in the next round of application. Each Friday you stay up all night checking the portal hoping that you will see the word “Accepted.” Time passes by, you talk to friends about college and the schools they are excited for. Plenty of your classmates say “OSU was my back up school, I’m not going there.” You sit there silent, wondering what you did wrong. You constantly are in an unexcited and upset state about college, being stuck in a limbo. You stay up late asking yourself what the point was of trying hard for 4 years, when you could have gotten a D average and still ended up on a regional campus. All of those all nighters pulled, all the time spent stressing over the difference between an A and a B to get that perfect GPA. You keep checking every Friday monitoring this forum. The months continue by, as April 1st roles around. They promised a decision by April, you think the wait is nearly over. The day roles around on May 29th, you just see the term “Wait Offer” and you think to yourself “Wow.” You get a very lovely little email explaining that you were not good enough even though you see kids get into the engineering program with lower stats then you. The email tells you that you will not get an answer until June 1st. You sit there reflecting on High School. The years you have spent burning the midnight oil seem to have been in vein and for what, someone to tell you that your accomplishments mean nothing. Personally at this point I do not even want to walk at graduation. The thought of talking about college infuriates and disgusts me. Family members keep asking me about where I am going to college and I have to explain to them that I do not know yet. People keep telling me that I need to be happy and excited that I am taking my next step in life, but all I feel is disgust and hatred towards the college system. I would have applied to out of state colleges, but my parent’s said they would not help me with any of the debt collected if I left the state. As you can imagine, that is a little hard to pay off 160k+ by yourself. Its also really enjoyable seeing others complain about not wanting to go because they didn’t get enough money in scholarships. Just be happy that you are at least accepted, and stop saying that you have it so bad, just know it could be worse. For those who are in the same boat I am in, I would love to hear your responses and thoughts over the issue.

@OhioStudent99 I’m so sorry this time has been so stressful and disappointing for you. You obviously are a very bright person - obvious based on the math classes you’ve taken and the well written post. It sucks that this has happened to you and you know what, it sucks that life isn’t fair, but it isn’t. It’s hard to hear, and it’s probably extremely annoying as well. When other people who aren’t working as hard or aren’t as naturally talented as you get a break and you don’t, you just want to give up. But you haven’t wasted all your hard work. You invested in yourself, and it wasn’t just to get into a specific college. The knowledge and skills that you have are yours, and can never be taken away, and you will put them to good use. If you haven’t already, apply to some other great schools in Ohio. Then you can make the best decision for yourself when the time comes. You will find a great path, and will do great things, and this time will be so much less important to you in later years, you just need to get through this. And to take your own advice, know that it could be worse, think of all the other challenges that some people face with living conditions, health, tragedy… I think you’ll find some things to be grateful for. But this is your time of hardship, you’ll make it through. I’m sorry if any of this post makes you upset or angry, it was meant in the absolutely kindest way, I hope it helps.
@OhioStudent99 Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry that you haven’t received the news you were hoping for.
I would strongly encourage you to apply to Ohio University. Their deadline is May 1. It may not be the dream school you worked for, but it’s a great school and could be an excellent start for you. After a year, you can decide whether or not to transfer to OSU.
I wish you lots of luck. You’ve earned it.
@OhioStudent99 Thank you for sharing your journey. Very first question-did you send a LOCI (Letter of Continued Interest) to admissions/your admissions rep? If not, send one ASAP-there are great examples on the web. Keep it focused on why OSU, what struck you when you visited, what YOU will contribute to the school (that is a very important part of the letter), and be specific about some of the aspects around your major and how you will take advantage of those. Update with any new awards, directed studies, etc. and even another testimony from one of your teachers. It will help you continue to stand out - you have an amazing background, and an amazing ability to write-leverage both in your LOCI. Your high school graduation is yours-you EARNED it-walk proudly across that graduation stage and accept that diploma-your future self would tell you now that it’s important for you to do. You are accomplished-accept that diploma as acknowledgement of all you have done. Between now and June 1, build out your options. A dear friend of ours is now a sophomore at OSU-she started regional first and then moved to OSU in her sophomore year and is so so happy-she settled in fast and made friends quickly and is just beaming. She doesn’t regret that first year at regional. Just believe in your heart that sometimes our path takes us in a direction in life that we don’t understand and thus we fight it-but I promise you this-there is a reason this path is here and if you build a plan, execute it, walk with your head high, and keep working as hard as you have, you will SUCCEED. You are too talented to do anything less. Go make it happen!
@OhioState99 I would also add Kent State as school to apply to. It is in state and when we visited, we were very impressed.
@OhioState99 I have just read your message and I don’t want to sound mean, but plenty of people with your scores and better did NOT get in. They went through the same process you did, they waited anxiously and they hoped they would get in. Many of these kids ALSO do not have the option to take on loads of debt and go to out of state schools. Bravo to your parents for being smart enough to say this isn’t a viable option instead of giving in to debt that will no doubt hold you back in the future. The bottom line with many of these admissions decisions is coming down to the SAT/ACT score. When you look at the average admitted score the score you have is in the low range of admitted students. Not many with that score were admitted. I personally know two students with solid extra curriculars, high GPA, tons of AP classes and they had a 30 and 31 and they were NOT admitted to main campus. They were sick over it, it was their top choice too and they had scores right in the sweet spot of admissions and they were assigned to Newark. This is life, it’s hard and we don’t always get what we want or what we deserve but our character is determined by how we respond to adversity. Plenty of people have survived a year at Newark even when they felt that they didn’t deserve to be there. At this point I would do my best to pull myself up by my boot straps and move forward with a plan for my future instead of comparing myself and placing blame on a less than perfect system. With a 27/28 your admission was a long shot from the beginning. It didn’t work out, that happens now move forward in a positive direction. I also wouldn’t sour my entire high school experience by refusing to walk over not being admitted to a school that was without a doubt a reach. If you want to end up at OSU you have that option, head to Newark and after a year transfer in…plenty of other well qualified students will be doing the exact same thing. Get your chin up and figure out a positive way to move forward.
Bravo Patch51 - well said. My daughter didn’t get into OSU Columbus with a higher ACT score and more AP classes. She went to Newark for a year and transferred into OSU. She plugged herself into the Newark campus, getting involved in as many things as she could. She transferred into OSU Columbus the next year and is thriving.
Things like this are life lessons. This won’t be the first time you don’t get a job, don’t get a promotion, lose a spouse or significant other. OhioStudent99, you need to focus on what to do now. As others have said, OSU is not out of your reach if you want to go there…go to a regional campus and you’re basically guaranteed a spot after 30 hours (unless you don’t meet grade criteria). If you don’t want to go to a regional campus, then look at other in state schools.
UC, Kent State, etc. All fine schools. Don’t let this define you. If you do, it’s going to be a long 60 years for the rest of your life.
I am not trying to be unfeeling or uncaring. Make your future - don’t give up.
Does anyone know where to find the OSU waitlist statistics for 2018-19? I’ve only found 2017-18, but maybe that’s the most recent they’ve released
@stebs28 Don’t know if this like will post, but if not, google Ohio State Common Data Set. It’s in section C2.

5,296 waitlisted
1,221 accepted place in waitlist
117 ultimately admitted
That was really helpful! Thank you @momzilla2D
Does anyone know where (address or email) we can send a letter of continued interest?
@clairescho18 send it to your Admissions Representative.
So a question regarding letters of continued interest, would it be better to send an email or a letter? Im probably just going to submit my deposit to Ohio University and hope for the best come June
@ohiokid22 It is best at this point to send it via email. If you have your admission rep’s name, send it email to them. If not, email admissions office. Many of us are pulling for you-please keep us updated! It will work out-and please do walk across that stage at graduation-you have earned it!
When does waitlist come out?
Any recent wait list activity at tOSU?
Anyone?
Does anyone know if decisions will be made before June 1? Or is June 1st the only day they will be coming out?
