@gherbss Yes, OSU will be providing all incoming freshman at the main campus with iPad Pros for their use while they attend OSU. The iPads will be owned by the university, but when the student graduates, they will get to keep the iPad. My son, who was admitted during the December wave, received an email or something in the mail about this program.
Regional campus incoming freshman also receive ipads FAQs https://digitalflagship.osu.edu/students/faq
"If you’re a Columbus or Newark campus student you’ll receive your device at orientation…
“If you plan to attend Ohio State Lima, Marion, Mansfield or Wooster/ATI you’ll receive your device near the start of Autumn semester.”
Oops I didn’t realize that other campuses also get the iPad. Thanks for correcting my error!
If your estimated cost of attendance is shown under SFA Status and under award data it says “No award data at this time”, does it mean I did not receive a scholarship?

Sorry, it said that my comment couldn’t be posted for some reason lol.
Hi everyone, I know I’m a bit late, but I got accepted back in December and my major is aviation from the college of engineering. With that said, I just wanted to ask whether or not their aviation program is any good. I know it is one of the top in the nation, but to anyone that has information on it, it would be appreciated. And even though this is an OSU thread, I just wanted to ask for anybody’s opinion on Purdue vs OSU. I got accepted into both but am still struggling to choose which one I might want to go to. For any with experience or knowledge in the aviation field, I am an aspiring pilot but while accepted into Purdue, I didn’t get into my first choice major of professional flight, and instead got accepted into second choice major of aeronautical engineering tech. lol at this point im just asking for career advice but should i choose to go to OSU and get my intended major, or go to Purdue and hope for the best. I mean after an extensive google search, I’ve found out that many people have said not to major in flight because I could easily be disqualified (ie medical requirements), and going to purdue would allow me to have aero eng tech as a back up. I don’t know what to do at this point so any advice would be greatly appreciated. And sorry for writing so much lol.
OSU is still considering what model of iPad Pro to utilize, but based on an email from digitalflagship@osu.edu they stated:
“An official device selection will be released in the next few weeks, but we are most likely going to provide the 10.5” iPad Pro (2017 release) to the incoming class.
After a comprehensive comparison of the 10.5” iPad Pro and the 11” iPad Pro, we have found that the 10.5” model will provide the best value for students and educators. Choosing to remain with the 10.5” iPad Pro will allow our students to continue advancing new ideas and innovations while mitigating risk and upholding our commitment to fiscal responsibility."
I expressed my disappointment with choosing +2yr old tech, expressed a preference for the 2018 release. It won’t matter when we decide, just a preference based on specs I let them know.
when is the RD notification date?
Last year was the first year freshman got iPads. Current Sophomore, juniors and seniors got nothing. Seems trivial to complain that you won’t be getting the most updated freebie.
I agree 100% @bhs1978. The university is providing technology that is no cost to the student…guess that liquid retina display on the 11" model is a big deal to the OP ; - )
Too funny y’all. Posted the info because OSU missed their stated deadline of Jan ‘19 to release details of the incoming classes Tech Kit (seems to be a pattern). Also appeared the decision wasn’t firmly locked down, so I shared my preference. Was very pleased with the Tech Groups open communication, quick response, and reasoning. My oldest was caught up in the group that didn’t get the tech last year, very glad they are continujng the program, it’s a win in either way.
@bhs1978 I get where he’s coming from but ultimately it’s not “free” to us. Earlier stated in this forum a few days ago, tuition cost has increased more than double what it usually does for OSU. You are paying for it one way or the other. Nothing in life comes free really. I agree completely with @arptlaw because in 4 years when we graduate, the iPad’s internals will technically be 6 years old. By then the battery will be shot, and the overall performance will be very outdated.
“ in 4 years when we graduate, the iPad’s internals will technically be 6 years old. By then the battery will be shot, and the overall performance will be very outdated.”
And you will have gotten 4 years use out of a free IPad. The school did not agree to provide your electronics for life.
Yo students… Your getting an iPad pro for free!!! Just say thank you and move on… Lol… That’s pretty amazing for a university to do this.
