@Jeng2001 yes, your unweighted GPA is fairly low for tOSU. That is probably why you were deferred. Try to finish very strong this semester. Ask your guidance counselor how to send your updated grades.
I am not sure how tOSU considers OOS and instate students, so cannot comment if that is better or worse for you. Good luck!
Honestly, I don’t see any red flags. You are not, by any means, a “bad candidate” for them. It is most likely factors beyond your control. The only things I can think of are, possibly,
is there a cap on enrollment in animal science? (I don’t know anything about it, just wondering.)
how is your rank?
does your hs practice grade inflation?
does OSU take many people from your hs? do you have access to naviance? how does your profile look relative to those from your hs accepted to OSU in prior years?
I think you stand a good chance of being accepted in the RD round, but what do I know? If you are still interested, send a Letter or Continued Interest to your admissions rep, but then I would definitely put OSU aside for now and focus on other options. It’s not a good feeling to be deferred, but pick yourself up and move on. You will find your place. Let this deferral motivate you to do your best on any remaining RD apps, or if those are all done, to look for a some other good options.
ACT: 25
GPA: 3.695 un-weighted(not sure what weighted is, as it isn’t available to us from my school)
OOS
Intended Major: English
1 AP with a 4 as my score(my school doesn’t offer many AP’s or any IB’s)
LOTS of EC’s including: 12 years in 4-H, 4 years holding offices in French Club and Art Club, member of the National Honor Society, Student Council - Class Representative, weekly volunteer at my local hospital for two years, and member of a club called Medical Explorers by the Girl Scouts of America, I also have held three different jobs over the course of the last 4 years, one of which I still currently do.
Overseas 14-day study abroad opportunity during the summer of 2018
A LOT of community service as well. Most likely well over 200-300 hours
Status: Denied
I have since retaken the ACT and scored significantly higher, which sucks.
I was told that it is completely random when they read your application. It has nothing to do with what kind of student you are.
Having said that it is very stressful to have to continue to wait. We have not heard about my daughter yet . I wonder if they will release this week?
@cowboylover49 All Ohio State guarantees is that if you meet the Nov 1 EA deadline you will get a decision by the end of January. It’s not the end of January yet so there are many more decisions to be released, including acceptances. Think positive thoughts because at this point there is nothing you can do to influence the ultimate decision unless you have some significant new accomplishment to send over to the Admissions department.
It’s just I’m a pretty good student but don’t have like the averages the school says they admit. However, Ik people who have smilies stats as me at the University.
I think the whole thing is pretty random. I thought I was a solid candidate, granted I was more on the bottom half of the averages, but I’ve seen A LOT of kids get in with a lot less. Very very disappointing, as this was my first choice and pretty much the only place I wanted to go. I would have been totally fine not getting into any other school.
This may have been asked, but I did not scroll through all pages. Can you be directly admitted to Fisher or is everyone a pre-admit? My daughter’s admission letter was just a general letter. Her stats are 1490/4.7GPA. Thank you.
For some inexplicable reason I read through some of the posts for this thread last year…started in the mid-January ones. For sure, everyone, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Some pretty heavy hitter stats kids didn’t hear until quite late.
I want to know the name of the Fairy Godmother who allowed my kid to hear in the first round because I must thank her. The thought of him waiting until a MONTH from now makes me nauseous. He had to wait a whole 18 days and he was already complaining. My sympathies to you who are still on hold. If I had my Fairy Godmother’s magic wand, I would use it for all of you. Hang in there!
