Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2024

@cypresspat Thank you!!

Here is an interesting report that was printed last Monday showing how many students had been admitted as of December 9th by major (also shows comparison to 2018 stats). According to the report, before this past Friday’s admits OSU admitted 7,503 students to the Columbus campus. I would imagine there will be a new report tomorrow showing up to date info.

I got accepted on Friday, but when I was going to check to see if I got any financial aid and clicked on the “view my financial aid tab”, nothing showed up. Does this mean that I got no financial aid, or something else?

@user_538192 thank you. Maybe Fisher sends a separate letter.

@zookpap The information about scholarships/aid will come later.

I just got accepted in:
UIUC (Aerospace Engineering)
UMN (Engineering - CSE) - In-state
Ohio State (Aerospace Engineering).

Still waiting to hear if any of them will give me additional merit scholarship, not too hopeful. I have however also received 4/yr AFROTC scholarship for 18K + some fees + $300 stipend per month to any Public or Private college.

Any advice on the best choice for college. I am not too picky on location just want awesome engineering program and ability to get ROI with the best education possible.

P.S. - Still waiting to hear from GA Tech, UMich and Austin

@MindnHand Congtrats on getting accepted. You are obviously very intelligent but what a silly question. If you are going to be an aerospace engineer you should be able to figure out the best choice for college on your own rather than seeking advice from random strangers on this site. Do some research on each program!

@MindnHand did your portal tell you about scholarship or email or letter?

@yrmomkb the ROTC scholarship is a completely diff process. It usually happens in wave and i was awarded in Oct. The other college scholarship i am still waiting to hear and what i have heard is usually it is via email. I have not received any scholarship yet from the colleges directly.

The 12/16 admissions report is out. There were almost exactly 5,000 additional acceptances last week (12/13 release), which a bit less than last year, when there were closer to 6,000 acceptances in the Dec round. But, keep in mind there were more accepted in Nov this year, due to the 11/25 release.

date of report. 2019. 2020
11/18/19. 5,225. 5,441
11/25/19. 5,231. 7,503
12/2/19. 5,236. 7,503
12/9/19. 5,237. 7,503
12/16/19. 11,146. 12,502

I was able to access some of last year’s reports using the Wayback Machine, and it looks like thru the end of January, there were just over 18,000 acceptances thru the EA round in 2018 and 2019. So, I’d say there are at least another 5,000 acceptances to go.

considering that only about 5,000 more acceptances will be released, are Honors and scholarship spots full? OSU is one of my top choices, especially if they’re willing to break out the checks for me.

OOS (IL)
ACT 33
GPA 4.0
lots of APs, decent ECs, really good essays.

Are my hopes of getting into Honors with big scholarship up? All my friends have heard back already and I’ve been staring at “Evaluation” for the past 8 weeks.

Sounds like you are an insider:)

@momzilla2D are you saying there will only be 5,000 more acceptances given out in total, or for Early Action?

If the releasing pattern of last month continues, they will have 2500 admitted this Friday. Cross fingers for all who are waiting.

@MindnHand @Brutus111 I don’t think it’s silly question. Maybe someone on CC has personal experience with one of these programs, or could offer some insight/perspective that the poster hasn’t considered. Inquiring on CC is a form of research, imo. Good luck MindnHand. Unfortunately, I personally have no experience with engineering programs, but I do know tOSU is a great place for many reasons and my DS (Physics/Astronomy & Astrophysics) has had some great opportunities and a fantastic scholarship.

I create another thread for this discussion, OSU may release their financial package in late March.

@mcc1970 it would be 5k for EA. OSU accepts roughly 25k students a year, so still an additional 7k or so for RD.

Like their transparency, pretty interesting. Does anyone know when Honors decisions come out for Fisher? Am direct admit, 4.25 GPA/35 ACT, waiting to see if I can get into Honors.

5,000 (to 7,000) more for Early Action.
In total, OSU accepted roughly 25,000 students for 2018 and 2019 (new freshman, Columbus campus), so another 7,000 in RD.

@browniesundae thank you for your kind words. It is overwhelming to find the right fit. My objective with posting was to get some inside perspective. It is very obvious which college has the highest rating for Aero based on simple google search, what I want to know more is the experience of the program by someone that may have had a family member or themselves going through the program
