@LivD99 it is holistic, that’s why it takes them so long to get decisions out. One important factor is how difficult your courseload was compared to peers in your school.
@KirstenMP if they look at your application you get a decision - admitted, deferred, or rejected. Not hearing just means they haven’t gotten to it. If I were in admissions I would do the easy ones first - super high test scores and GPA because they go quickly, but I am not in admissions!
@kittyduey my daughter applied last year October 29 or 30 through Naviance and her school also does not rank. I wonder if it takes longer when schools don’t rank because they have to do more work. For whatever reason, she didn’t hear until mid-January, but she was still fine - got into honors, got the merit scholarship, got an engineering department scholarship. It just takes time to get through 30,000 applications (or whatever it is).

High School doesn’t rank, and has a non-standard GPA weighting. D20 has mostly A/A+, with an occasional B. Math/Science kid, taking Linear Algebra/Differential Equations, AP Physics, AP Spanish, AP Psychology and a Shakespeare class. She’s also directing a play, opening night was last night. Too busy to notice decisions were out, so just checked this morning.
I know some are saying decisions come every other week, but D19’s experience last year was that decisions came out about once a month. D19 heard January 18th (accepted), in the 3rd wave. And I think there was one more release the end of January. So be patient if you haven’t heard yet, and just keep checking. Good luck everyone!
@cowboylover49 Last year, at least for students around here, decisions were released every other week, always on a Friday. My son plays hockey and he always had a Friday night game and every single senior applied to OSU, so we all knew about The Release Fridays! We could tell what was discovered in the locker room the second the accepted kid stepped on the ice.
My s20 was accepted yesterday, but his close friend who lives across the street and has identical stats to his and applied three days earlier, did not hear. Only difference between these two kids (even seeking same major) is one plays baseball and the other hockey; pretty sure that doesn’t matter to OSU.
So, while theories abound on which kids hear in each wave, I think it probably has something to do with a random event none of know about. So…try to relax (easy for me to say). At least you don’t need to check the portal all day. Friday seems to be THE day to be obsessive. Or watch here for posts signaling a release.
I will be back in two Fridays to cheer everyone on. Go Bucks!!!
@4family4 wWow, August application date. You win the early app award so far, I think. My kid dragged his feet on the endless common app details and finally submitted on Oct 28, just to make me nuts.

I’ve been dually enrolled in college since my Junior year so I have around 17 DE credits. But for all those are worried I got a C in calculus last year (I’ve been freaking out and depressed) but I still got in so don’t worry. Captain of my robotics team for 2 years.
@cypresspat Yeah I applied really early. My scores/gpa were set and I had the essay where I wanted it. Feels great to have the decision in early, too! Now we wait to see if any merit comes through.
How long does it usually take to hear about merit award (if there is one)?
@4Family4 I have no clue about the timing of merit awards. My vague recollection for my older son (10 years ago!) was that he got $1k knocked off because of his scores and that was explained in his acceptance letter. They had the same tier system as they do now, but I think it was automatic. He essentially got an amount of $ from each of the state schools he applied to so that their tuition was equivalent. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!
I do know from reading recently that There are scholarships with a pretty late deadline (feb 1, I think), like the Ohio First scholarship. So obviously those are decided pretty late. Fingers crossed for you!
