Admitted Texas A&M University, Class of 2028

What are pros/cons of northside versus south side dorms? I’ve heard northside tends to be more social and better food at Sbisa and south side is quieter, close to rec center but commons dining is not as good. My daughter and her roommate are going to try for Hullabaloo and backup choice either northside modular or Rudder on south side…so trying to help her know what to expect from each option.

@Aggie97SA when is her dorm selection time? If not in the 1st or 2nd day, Hullabaloo will be out, and Northside Modulars fill next.

Freshman will have classes ALL over campus, so there’s not one ‘perfect’ side. Meal Plan allows for Sbisa and Commons.

Alums are loyal to one side, or the other. There are now 3 Rec Centers on campus, students have access to everything.

Just BE PREPARED going into dorm selection, have a list made. Be sure to join Aggie Moms/Dads page (answer ALL questions to join)-

My daughter lived in Underwood (southside) and Hullabaloo (northside) her freshman and sophomore years. She liked them both equally, but probably liked the quietness of southside better if she had to choose.

Thank you for the info! She and her roommate both have May 8th at 11:00 am which is third day so Hullabaloo may be full by then. They just need to decide northside or south side for backup dorms.

Thank you, good to know. She and roommate need to decide if they would prefer quiet or more social side of campus then.

I can’t join-the group because I new again to facebook but will add the following info in case it helps someone. . My son did register for his room today at 11:00. No singles in Hart at all. I think 1 single room left in Walton, maybe 2 at 11:10 am. Sorry I can’t tell anyone other availability. When he got the room he wanted , he was done. I was reading different social media and it seemed as if people thought a single room in the cheaper ramp dorms would be pretty easy to get. It doesn’t seem to be the case for freshmen this year.

Oooh thanks for the update on this.

I’m wondering how quickly hullabaloo went

Judging from the boards my wife is on there was a lot of frustrated parents yesterday. The main source of the frustration seems to be single Sophomores taking up a bunch of rooms at Hullabaloo. This made it hard for freshman + a roommate to find a desirable room. I think most of them ended up fine, but they had way fewer choices than they were expecting.

Additionally the Northside Modulars were filling up quick. Same deal - alot of singles making open rooms scarce for roommates.

My son’s housing opens @ 11:00 am tomorrow - I fully expect there to be no options for roommates in the Northside Modulars.

@BCS_Aggie94 how do you know they were sophomores, and not freshman? It is quite common for those without a roommate to snag a bed in Hullabaloo, which does make it difficult for those coming in with a roomie to find 2 open beds.
Hullabaloo is definitely majority of freshman.

Find someone with day 1 selection time, who can go in to portal an hour before yours, and view what is open-that will help greatly!

That is a great idea about asking others before me to see what is open.

The sophomore comment is passed along from others. As best I can tell there were day 1 people logging in right at 11:00 am to find a lot of Hullabaloo rooms booked by singles already.

@BCS_Aggie94 I’m guessing the bulk of the beds taken were from parents/students who knew how to maneuver the portal, went directly to specific rooms. Housing is lightning speed fast!

Definitely need to have a plan-list 2-3 dorms, specific floors/rooms and have multiple people helping (have someone follow Aggie Moms/Dads page for updates, one needs to have cell & ResLife # ready-in case a call is needed, at least one backup laptop- to refresh and/or use in case you get kicked out, etc).

For sure find someone who can go back in and check, to see what’s available.
There’s no time to rethink, come up with a backup plan. Literally EVERY second counts…it is THAT fast & intense :open_mouth:

I’m not surprised, I think sophomores get to pick housing before incoming freshmen so it’s entirely possible.

Hey! I’ve got my selection time this Friday at 11. Is anyone able to go in there either Thursday night, or earlier in the week, and let me know how the room availability is looking? I’ve got a roommate, and our original thought was either a single suite or a north side modular, but since it sounds like those are filling up we’re kinda freaking out about what options will be available. At this point, we really just want to avoid having a double suite or a community bathroom. Thanks!

My son looked at double rooms in Hullabaloo Monday (11 am slot). The ones he found had single upperclassman in them (can tell by the ages listed). So mine ended up in Hass. A bad experience sharing one bathroom with four boys at Camp Build last year kept him away from the doubles suites in Hullabaloo.

@Raider97 that is crazy! First of all, very few upperclassmen live on campus, and they select rooms in either January or February. You’d think they would go for true Single rooms, not risk getting a rando freshman?? Bizarre. And those staying on campus couldn’t find a person to share a room with? Just weird.

Haas is always popular! Great Northside location.

We had heard that White Creek is one of the last to get picked and discovered that is no longer true, at least for those wanting a 2 bedroom. Only single beds available in all of the 2 bedroom options. Everything had one person already in it, other than the 4 bedroom option. All of the Northside Modulars only have single space available now. Not sure if this is different this year, but sharing for the people researching for next year!

I’m just getting up to speed as my wife has been following the housing more closely than me. Are all two bedroom modular options gone on south campus as well? Thanks from very stressed parents.

Most likely all modulars are gone BUT if looking for single bed (ie not bringing a roomie), beds open up throughout this whole process.

Thanks for info. He is bringing in a roommate. I just hope they can still get something together. We put deposit down just as soon as he was admitted in to Mays on November 1st.

Look through this link for availability after Friday ended.
