Yeah, I have community service. Neighbourhood clean up. It’s not much and it’s not one of my major ECs, but anyhow.
As a senior member of the church teen group, I am in charge of cloth, food and book drives to the needy.
Personally, asides from donating my books and clothes regularly I think I do a great disservice to the community. I just can’t help myself, I always end up giving at least one beggar my money or food every-time I see them! I know it’s not helping them because they’re going to end up remaining on the streets but what can I do??
Especially the children, they always look so sad and hungry that I can’t say no. I’d love to give them books but what’s the use? They can’t read! They’d just end up selling it to people making puff puff!
I think as Africans, we have a lot to do to help them. Especially distancing them from the vultures they call parents that refuse to let them go to school and use them to make money! Have you ever noticed the parents sitting under the shade when we’re walking under the hot sun trying to make money? Then they push the helpless children under the sun and remain shaded and gist with one another!!

Most of my ECs are really school clubs. I never have any time to do anything outside school.
@gigichuck does helping juniors with schoolwork count? If so, most of us probably have many hours of that

Well, I’ll just give a general outline about myself: I do violin, and i participated in clubs like JETS(Science club), Writers & Spellers Club, and wildlife & environmental club. I’m a HUGE animal person and so I advocate for animal righ and stuff a lot, and I volunteer at an animal shelter here. I also started my own animal welfare team(if I can call it that). I wrote my SAT in january and it was NOT good. So I’m writing again in October and hopefully I’ll get above 700 in the English sections( I suck so badly at CR). I also hope to get 750(I want 800 really) in math. I do better in the math sections that the English ones. What about you guys? Let’s tell each other, also, what we suck at so we can help each other? (Maybe someone here can tell me how they get on with CR?)

oh that’s great, I never knew there was this thread @gigichuck , yeah that is interesting: I really hope we get more Africans into Stanford etc…last year we had no one in Tanzania go to Stanford so I am taking a risk by considering the school. Nevertheless, I love the challenge and the whole process has been great so far, fingers crossed on my Subject tests in Oct. If there is anyone in need of advice for ACT, just pm me; I found that test ridiculously easy and scored well in 1 sitting.
