Amazing Race 2024!

Phil also said that the last team to arrive would be eliminated. I was waiting to see, however, what would happen when they arrived.

Phil did call that last mat check in a pit stop, even though they were still racing.

Also very clear this was filmed a couple of years ago, during COVID-ish times: staying in that city for more than one day, folks masking up–expecting fewer but longer stops, shared planes, etc.

Last season was so much fun, feeling like “the good old days”, pre-COVID.

I understand all of that ^^^ regarding the non-elimination, etc., but wasn’t it last season when they had a mat check in that resulted in the last team that did check in finding out they were still racing, so they weren’t eliminated at that mat? Or did I make that up (I may have)

I can’t watch Survivor and TAR on the same night so I’ll save TAR for Thursdays.

My thoughts:

It was interesting to see the references to the fact that this was an older season. Contestants, as well as people on the streets, were wearing masks. During the intro, one couple said that they were just happy to be out of the house. There were no high fives or hugs with the people handing them their clue. They seemed to have edited Phil’s comment about which country was a first last season.

At one point, someone stated that they were 10 min behind another team and that, if the other team asked for directions, they could pass them. I think that might have been a reference to a team having to do a 15 min COVID test when asking for directions.

I was surprised at how many contestants spoke Spanish.

I thought Danny & Angie (the homeschooled guy with allergies who was scared of horses) had an unusual relationship. He’s 27 and a university resident director. I don’t see him working in a leadership role.

Finally, I’m guessing they usually do the intros at the beginning, but we don’t see them. They had to stretch 60 min into 90 so they probably showed us the intros and 15 min of Kishori jumping through ropes. :joy:

Good to have TAR back. I’ll always love Phil!

Quite a few likeable couples. I also lean towards the pilot friends and the NFL couple. The grandparents Look in great shape. I’m gonna worry about the father and daughter. I wonder what his age is - he looks like one of the older people I’ve ever seen on the show

Meredith & Gretchen from Season 7 were 69 and 66 when they completed and came in 4th. So age isn’t always a hindrance

Of course not she alone- but physical condition can be a factor at any age - and his seems not the best!

Yeah, I don’t see them lasting long

I was excited they started in Puerto Vallarta as my friends and I just booked a vacation there on Tues/Wed (leave on April 22) and it was nice to see some of the city.

Surprised that the teams with a Spanish speaking member weren’t at that much of an advantage.

Finally watched the episode last night and I thought it was one of the most entertaining first legs ever. I usually watch with my teenage son and we laughed so much. Poor Maya and Rohan. I’ve lived in the South too long, I felt like saying “bless their hearts” over and over.

Our first reaction, when their care got stuck “why did they not just back up?”

Even with Covid rules, this looks to be a promising season!

My kid did a real eye-roll on that one. No TCM in that household, obviously.

I couldn’t tell why some people had such a difficult time getting to the pit stop.

I also think 90 minutes is dragging. I didn’t need to see each team collect balloons or paint make up.

I turned in late and felt a little lost. I turned it on just after 9 and already they were talking about the pit stop, but some teams had two or three tasks to go. Makes me think the first team was way ahead of everyone else.

They were. It wasn’t nearly as hot and humid for the make up task for the first couple of teams.

Just an ok episode - I did love how colorful everything was!

Let’s see what next week holds.

A lot of directionally challenged teams and/or teams who did not find local tourist guide maps.

The humidity looked brutal.

Yeah, the heat seemed brutal. And then that make up on the face

I also thought the episode kind of dragged. That clothesline task looked tough. I think there just wasn’t enough action or tasks or a flight to a new place or whatever so it felt like it was just an extremely long day combining episode one and two.

I have to admit choking up at the finish line with the mom and son and the daughter and dad!

I also think there are more than a couple of teams that don’t seem too strong this season. Time will tell.

Filming this two years ago definitely shows—fewer stops but spending more time at each stop, it seemed like they were running out of things to have them do in Puerto Vallarta. Really looking forward to them moving on–that’s what makes the show great, moving from place to place.
