I love TAR (and Survivor). Need to catch up on this week’s episode
@shellfell We all said the same thing!
I enjoyed last night’s episode for the most part but again the editing seemed very choppy.
It was a jam-packed episode and the kind that I enjoy! After the relatively easy fish arranging challenge, the pace picked up. I loved the gnome zipline roadblock but it was a little unclear as to how they were actually locating the right roof. The team effort search seemed to be Henry leading the others and Jessica offering no input whatsoever. I still don’t know how Cedric got the second rooftop first! Not that it mattered, though.
The detour was the type that TAR does so often and so often the teams choose the wrong one. This detour was no exception, given the order in which the teams arrived at the mat. Loved the fact that the Yale kids finished first and also that it was a non-elimination leg, which all of us who were watching together guessed early on.
A few observations. Conor of Team Indy impressed me this week. Jessica and Brittany did not. I couldn’t believe that Brittany was yelling at the taxi driver in Spanish. In Tangier. Yes, in Tangier.
Actually, though I also thought it odd at first that Brittany kept yelling in Spanish (at the two women who helped her when she lost her gnome too), I looked it up on Wikipedia and found that about 5 million Moroccans speak Spanish, and most of them are in the northern region; it is actually one of the most taught and spoken languages in the country along with Arabic, Berber, and French. So I think Brittany lucked out on running into some of the local population who spoke Spanish.
She still didn’t have to yell!
@bearpanther Thanks for that info! It does make sense given its proximity. I don’t know about the women but the taxi driver didn’t seem to understand her.
Wow what an episode - I thought it was outstanding in terms of challenges for the groups - from the bball dude vomiting at the fish (the smell had to be awful) to all that running and the heat…
Was fun for me to see Morocco - my mom grew up there and met my dad there and my older brother and sister were born there. Mom speaks French and Arabic - sort of a mixed dialect.
They were literally going through peoples homes for the gnome chase. It isn’t like it was random.
I have a soft spot for Phil - he can do no wrong. But that french fry challenge was awful.
@Sybylla So you think the path to that particular roof was marked in some way? I’m not sure what you mean by “if isn’t like it was random”.
Not a great episode, but I still love the show. Agree the French fry race and arranging the fish were both awful. Looking forward to this week!
I saw some small signs at the bottom of the staircases that probably indicated they found the right stairs to go to the roofs
There obviously had to be markers indicating the way. So it is totally contrived. And so unnecessarily.
Anybody else still watching? I thought that last week’s two hour episode, which was really two one-hour episodes shown back-to-back, was more up to par with previous seasons in terms of quality. They seemed to flow much better than other episodes this season where the editing seemed a little choppy. Sorry to to see the ballers and team chomp go.
I did watch - I was in St. Tropez two summers ago and was enjoying the scenery again! Still not a fan of that competition thing at the end. I didn’t notice it last time but really noticed how annoying Phil’s play by play was this time!
That sailboat challenge might have done me in! Poor Yale woman chipping her tooth!
I usually like it more and more as the teams get whittled down.
Evan got her tooth fixed quickly. I wonder if they had a dentist on call in case something happened.
They have a medical team with them on the race.
Fun to see this episode as one of my Ds and her H stayed at Hotel Benvengudo on their honeymoon.
I know they have medical personnel with them. I just didn’t realize that included a dentist.
@shellfell, in previous seasons they have. I don’t know specifically about this season but it’s possible that they have.
