Whose watching the new season that started tonight?
Me! The show seemed kind of rushed tonight. I didn’t care much for the goat yoga girls but I liked the skiers who came in first. Interesting preview where Phil said they’d be changing partners at some point.
It seems difficult to give all the teams airtime in the early episodes when there are so many. Agree that the goat girls’ bickering was annoying but it seemed to be one sided.
It seems the theme is “professional / amateur competitors” - I wasn’t completely engrossed last night (I wanted to be!). So far I do like the debate kids, but I have a soft spot for smart younger people…I want them to rule!
Oh, man, I missed it!
Started last night. I won’t get a chance to watch until this weekend but I always enjoy our discussions here on CC…so starting the thread! Won’t peek back in until I watch. NO SPOILERS PLEASE until a show airs - once it’s airs all comments are fair game!!
As a Big Brother watcher will be very curious to see Cody and Jessica in action.
I understand why CBS went with “competitors” - they feel like they need a hook - but I could do without all the millionaires as contestants. I’d rather see contestants who could really use the prize money.
I thought they did a fairly good job of giving airtime to almost all of the teams. It’s difficult to do that in the first episode. I enjoyed seeing Iceland and thought that the first roadblock was a good one. Attention to detail, folks! And no helping your teammate! Even after watching 29 seasons, I’m not sure if the first episode usually also has a detour. Anyone remember? I did wonder why everyone seemed to be carrying what looked like shopping bags at the mat. And that finish was an exciting one!
I liked the kids from Yale, the skiers, and the string quartet guys. Funny how that one yoga woman isn’t quite as ‘chill’ as one would expect.
About those shopping bags…I read that the episode originally was 90 minutes long and included a detour that was cut. Apparently the shopping bags had something to do with the detour.
Cutting the episode length down to 60 minutes also explains why it felt so rushed.
I love the Amazing Race! My Early favorite is the Debate kids (mom of debate CX’ er)
Ahhh! I wondered about the shopping bags too! That was a crazy finish- how awful to lose by literally ONE STEP.
And Big Brother Cody up to his old tricks by not listening to Jessica bit him in the you-know-what!!!
OK, so the editing of the “shopping bag” portion explained why the NBA’ers were the last to leave the spelling the place name event but weren’t close to being the last to arrive at the next challenge.
I’m kind of ticked off that they couldn’t/didn’t give us the full 90 minutes! We wait all year for one AR season - I want it all!
They could’ve at least put the entire episode online so true fans of the show could’ve had the opportunity to see it.
No first leg advantage shown either, it seems to me they usually give one of those “go right to the pit stop” cards out to the winner of the first leg? The idea that the will have head to head races/challenges and also switch partners sounds interesting though.
Anyone watch last night’s episode? I felt for the Yalies.
AR, like Survivor, is aging out. Phil and Peaches are too old for how these shows would need to look to to really appeal to the target (younger and bigger) audience. Both struggle with the interface of social media and the show. The show appeals to an older audience but needs young blood. Young blood obviously can't be trusted to watch a 90 minute show so us oldies are dazed and confused by the bags edit LOL. The chip challenge voice over was cringeworthy. The constant reference to labelling the most competitive people ever is so contrived, it is hard for me to understand how Phil can bear to still do the show. Let's get back to non english speaking taxi rides and people who can't drive stick LOL.
I’m another who hated the play-by-play by Phil during the head to head race.
I didn’t enjoy this episode. I understand that they are trying to inject new aspects to the show but, come on, that ‘race’ at the end was just silly.
I did not like the head-to-head competition. Teams that do poorly all day can avoid elimination in a single task - and that almost happened. I hope that not all of the head-to-heads are physical competitions. The Yalies deserve a more cerebral task next time.
