Amazon order shipped - but I did not place order!

I was shocked just now to receive an email from Amazon saying that they’d shipped an order. I looked at the item briefly last night, but definitely didn’t order it, or even put it in my cart. It couldn’t have happened by mistake, because it takes several clicks to place an order. And I’ve had another item in my cart for several days. If I’d placed an order, that would have been sent as well.

I wonder whether they have started that policy of anticipatory shipping?

I’ve emailed them, and I know they’ll resolve the situation. But I wish I knew what happened.

No one else has access to my account.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is it an item that you’ve ordered before? Could it be on auto-ship?

No, I hadn’t even heard about it until last night. It’s a very expensive cosmetic item that someone was raving about. I looked at it on Amazon out of curiosity, to see what the reviews were like.

That’s weird. And creepy. I look at items I have no intention of buying, like that ridiculous steering wheel desk.

How was this order paid for? If it’s on your CC bill, I’d call the CC & dispute it. I’d also contact Amazon and inform them I never ordered the item and do not want it and want an RMA number and full refund, including shipping to you and back to them.

Do you have 1-click checkout? I do, and it’s very convenient, but I can also see how I might mess it up by clicking it when I didn’t mean to. Could you have checked that by mistake?

Um…I just got an email from Amazon about being selected for a 90% off coupon. Spam!

I would check your Amazon account and your credit card. If this item appears on your Amazon account and your credit card, have them check the shipping address…because it could be going to some crook.

And ask other family members too…someone else may have used your account (that has happened here).

If this is on your account, and on your credit card, start a fraud claim with both the credit card company and Amazon.

But first…verify that the email came from Amazon…and it was to someone fishing for your data!

Probably not from Amazon but an attempt to get you to click.

If it is, probably wrong email but they shipped to the right person. This happens to me fairly often, notably from the Apple Store and Zappos. I have email addresses so old they’re just my first name and lots of people have my name so sometimes I get their emails when they leave stuff off the email address.

I hope you did not click on the link in the email.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=15362281

We get spam from companies that claim they’ve shipped an order that we never ordered. Like Lergnom said, I think they’re trying to get you to click on one of their links.

As other users have said, it was probably a fake phishing email. If you still have the email you can check the sender email address to confirm whether it was actually from Amazon. Regardless you should check your order history on your Amazon account to see if the item was actually ordered. If it was then you should contact Amazon and your credit card provider about fraudulent purchases.

My husband had this happen using the amazon app on his phone. He viewed an item, it wasn’t what he needed, it somehow ordered. As soon as he saw the order confirmation email, which was almost immediately, he cancelled the order online and called amazon. It was a third party seller. They shipped anyway usps and told us to write return to sender and send it back. Sketchy, for an expensive item. It took another phone call or email after that but we got our refund. Deleted the app. We never use one-click but that’s the default on the app, or else there’s an error of some sort.

Go onto Amazon and edit your payment options…as in…delete your credit card from their website.

Before the email saying they had shipped it, did you get a confirmation email that you ordered it? I always get two. One immediately when I click on the purchase and one when it’s shipped.

Delete your credit cards from amazon and change your password immediately.

Oh and call the credit company. Cancel and get a new card.

Thanks, all. Yes, the item was in my orders, SaintSaens, and I did receive an order confirmation, 3bm103. But I was looking at the item just before bed, and I didn’t see the email until today.

I sent an email to Amazon help, and by the time I checked my email again, they had processed a refund. The message said that it had been ordered by 1-click, and it had directions for turning it off. I was still baffled, because I have always had 1-click turned off (for just this reason, it’s too easy to inadvertently order something. I looked on the page and my 1-click was turned off. BUT there was another entry - mobile 1-click, turned on. I looked at the item on my smartphone, and must have somehow hit the 1-click order. I had no idea that accessing my account with my phone would work differently.
