Amazon Prime

some people buy purses, some people buy shoes–my addiction: books!

anyone familiar with amazon prime?

can you get new releases without having to wait? truly no due dates?

i spend way too much money on books–i justify that expense since i don’t have access to a “free” library card.

please share your thoughts with me…it sounds too good to be true for $79 a year…

Amazon Prime is great. Basically, anything that would qualify for Super Saver Shippping (with a $25 minimum) arrives in 2 days with no minimum purchase, including books.

Even with Amazon Prime you have to wait until the book is released. If a book has a release date of November 5th it will not be sent to you now. Is that what you meant? If you preorder a book with a release date of November 5th using Amazon Prime there will be no shipping charge and it will probably arrive on November 5th.

For books, its a limited selection in their “amazon prime rental library” (the ones you get for free with Amazon prime) - not all new releases or anything like that. Also, you can only have one out at a time and only one book per month.

Still, amazon prime is a fantastic deal when you take into account free shipping, streaming video, books, etc. Really, it can’t be beat.

We’re watching all of the West Wing on Amazon Instant video free courtesy of Amazon Prime, which I already had and considered valuable so the free instant video is just icing on the cake.

I have a mixed opinion on Prime - I have not checked out the streaming, the kindle books are not that great a deal (assuming you even have a kindle), and the shipping is worthwhile only if you order a lot from Amazon and generally need it fast. Personally, I don’t like ebooks and rarely order anything online if I cannot wait the 4-5 days it generally takes to arrive, so for me it does not seem worthwhile.

I agree that the free Kindle library is not worth much. I do have a Kindle, and I used to look at it, but never found much worth reading.

I have had Amazon Prime for years, it’s great for the free 2-day shipping. I order a lot from Amazon. Now that they have the instant streaming, it’s a really great deal. But I would not get it for the “free” books.

I signed up for Amazon Prime one month free offer last December because I needed something fast, then accidentally autorenewed it for one year at $79. I am so glad! I’ve watched a lot of streaming video (watched first three years of 24, which I never saw, and rewatched all of Dr. Who; plan on watching The Tudors). Plus I’m more likely to order stuff online since it ships free. I don’t have a Kindle so that’s not an issue.

I order my hard to find in drugstores unless it’s July antichlorine shampoo from Amazon, my printer cartridges, cat food, last minute birthday presents, all with free two day shipping. Can’t beat it.

And prime free shipping is available for up to 4 family members. The video streaming is only for primary member however. If you own a Kindle and are primary prime person (PPP) you can use the Kindle lending library which DOES have lots of new books and best sellers although it is limited to one per month.

I like Amazon Prime, although I have noticed that for many things, the Amazon Prime price with free shipping is close to or the same as other vendor’s price + shipping. IOW, you aren’t always saving a whole lot, just getting faster shipping.

I love Amazon Prime. I’ve been a member for years and include my family on my subscription. It was a better deal when I didn’t have to pay CA sales tax. And can’t beat the two day shipping especially buying on-sale and bulky items. It is very convenient for my kids who live in Manhattan and have no car.

We use Prime a lot. We order some basics in bulk because of it, like the certain, hard to find in stores plastic bags we prefer.

I find their streaming to be stuff I’ve seen or don’t want to see and it’s organized so poorly that I don’t enjoy looking through the dreck.

My sister and I share my mom’s account. I use it at least once a week.

Bezos is far from my favorite guy, but I use Amazon prime anyway. Think of all the people I am keeping employed!

It is convenient to store multiple addresses and send gifts to the girls & it is really too easy to order things I otherwise would spend all day looking for. This is a huge deal now for me. I still make a point to shop local, but it saves so much time. D is also more likely to get her books ahead of time when she can use my acct. ( & then they buy them back- or she rents them,I’m not sure)

We also share Kindle accounts on our electronic devices, & we never ( the four of us), are reading the same book at the same time so syncing isnt a problem. I do sometimes use the loaner books.
Sometimes there are cheaper vendors, and lately I had trouble with their shipping, but they straightened it out quickly, and I still use Prime. I also use the streaming, I find they have shows Netflix doesn’t, but you have to know what you are looking for. ( like PG Wodehouse)

I even love that they keep my order history forever, & if I order a book I already ordered it will tell me! :o

We are BIG fans of Amazon because of their product selection, customer service and how they treat their customers. We had an Amazon Prime membership before we bought our Kindle Fire. And we will renew.

Only wish Amazon had a filter to eliminate non-Amazon vendors. We never had one problem with Amazon direct. Amazon partners? Well, that a whole 'nother story.

^ on most if not all searches there is an option to show only Amazon-prime eligible items, this should filter out most non-Amazon members.

Darn. They only have the New Dr. Who. They do have selected episodes of the “Dr Who (classics)” as they call it, but nothing close to being “all”.

I have been a huge fan of Amazon Prime. It is still a great deal, but the company is retooling some of its policies. There is a new policy that is SUPPOSED to make smaller items easier to order, but it really seems to reduce the number of Prime articles and impose a grouping of items to 25 dollars.

Love Amazon, LOVE prime. I have been a customer since about day one! great customer service from a company that only seems to exist “virtually”. Will be looking out for the retooling,
