American Idol 2018 and Beyond

Oh, and I think Eddie Island is one big, untalented goofball and has no place in the top 14 or the show at all.

Can you tell I’m a little cranky today? Probably shouldn’t post before I’ve had my coffee. LOL

^Agreeing about the Eddie Island part.

Top-14 perform tonight… vote your favorites!

American Idol fans will vote for the first time, Sunday 4/14. On Monday 4/15, after the votes are tabulated, the Top-10 will be revealed in the season’s first LIVE show. Viewers will choose seven of the Top-10. The judges will choose the remaining three. (I am hoping Evelyn and Eddie are eliminated this week and will withhold judgment on the other 2 after I hear the performances.)

Enjoy the show!

I feel like the judges will save both of them if they are not put through by viewer votes.

Musicmom, I don’t think either will be unanimous with the judges, if they don’t get voted through, so it could come down to if there is 1 or 2 judges for or against. Eddie’s song choice this week lends itself to him being goofy once again but I think he has exhausted all of his goofy passes. That certainly will not fly with Katy, who has put him on notice with his antics.

Agree with the Eddie comments, I thought he was totally disrespectful during Lukas Graham’s song, 7 years old. No ability to show emotion or connect with what he sings, he is just a goof and not someone I would consider an artist in any regard. Don’t understand that choice at all.

Who is watching and voting? I had a few favorites tonight, but thought many in the first hour didn’t perform as well as usual this week.

I watched. If we are cutting four, my votes would be Eddie, Evelyn, Wade, and Alejandro to go home. Wade’s voice makes my throat hurt. Alejandro is boring to me. Talented, but still boring.

Jumping in for the first time bc I spent the last two weeks catching up. I wasn’t crazy about tonight’s performances. I was disappointed in Alejandro. I much prefer the style he’s done to-date. And while I love love love Fix You, I didn’t think Ashley did it justice. Didn’t like Uche at all - why were the judges so gaga over him? I think Walker will regret his song choice. It was an odd pick, and he didn’t do anything to it. He was very stiff. I guess I’d say Jeremiah and Laci did the best job. I missed the first performance - who was it, and how did they do?

The first one was Laine. He did well. He sang an Elvis song but I can’t remember what it was at the moment.

I thought Laine was ok, but not as … energetic? … as other performances of his. I would cut Eddie, Evelyn, Alyssa, and Riley, not based only on tonight though. Even my favorites didn’t all do that well tonight.

I would cut Evelyn, Riley, Eddie and Wade.

I have only watched the YouTube clips. I agree with tavergirl. Only a few standouts. Most underperformed. But, I thought Uche was really good. My top-3 and in this order:

  1. Jeremiah
  2. Madison (her best performance of the season, imo)
  3. Uche (his best performance so far, imo)

Have loved Dimitrius all season but tonight there wasn’t a thing I liked with his performance. Didn’t like the song choice, the arrangement, his vocals, or the way he looked! I think he will be hoping the judges put him through as a wildcard but, like Eddie and Evelyn, he could be going home. The others who were the least impressive to me tonight were Wade and Alejandro. Alejandro’s “signature”, and what makes him so unique, is his interesting guitar work. Therefore, let’s make him a DJ for a night. That made no sense to me. Walker, on the other hand, hadn’t really shown off his vocal range. I didn’t think I would like him tonight, but I did.

Two of my favorites all season, Laci and Ashley, were just okay. Both have had better performances before tonight.

If Alyssa should end up in the bottom, it will be because of her biggest competition— Madison VandenBurg. To me, when you compare these two, Madison has a huge edge over Alyssa, not the least of which is artistry and authenticity.

I think it is ridiculous what they have done to Laine Hardy, starting from night 1 and the “fake impromptu audition” until now with the Elvis makeover. Sickening. Insert barf emoji.

The 4 I would like to see go home:

  1. Eddie
  2. Evelyn
  3. Wade
  4. Alejandro

I hope Dimitrius gets another chance. Idol is already underrepresented with African American artists (yet again). He is just too good vocally to not be in the Top-10, imo.

Is it just me or does it seem Evelyn sings every song only using 4 or 5 different notes? No range whatsoever sorry, but it was awful. Alyssa is equally meh, that’s three meh in a row, time to change the channel. Will try back next week after this cut.

Dimitrius is talented, but he’s kind of a downer. He never smiles. If he does make the top 10, I don’t expect him to make it much longer.

Eddie had better go home after that ridiculous butchering of Elton John.

Despite what they have done to Laine, I like his voice, I like his new look, and I like his confidence on stage.

Riley is just beautiful. I wasn’t thrilled with her song choice, but I hope she stays a little longer.

I love Walker, but he didn’t look very comfortable up there tonight. I thought he could have done more with that song.

Jeremiah and Laci are still my favorites. I will be a little disappointed if they are not the final two.

Started watching the show. I wish the judges would stop overpraising and giving standing O’s to everyone, except for Eddie. Comments to Eddie: Luke liked his outfit. Lionel thought it was fun watching him. Katy said he was different. Hmm… goodbye yellow lens glasses, now hit the brick road!

I loved Alejandro’s performance tonight! Which really surprised me. I didn’t like his performance last night, but tonight was great. Who knew he played the piano?? I think I have a bias toward musicians, though.

Waiting to see who the judges put through.

I loved him tonight, too. Last night had me worried for him. I still like him on guitar the best.

I agree with most of the top ten so was satisfied tonight.

I like who was put through to the top 10 except I would’ve preferred Ashley over Alyssa.

Interesting how they did the wildcards, with each judge choosing. I thought I remember them voting last season. What I do remember from last season is that it was just a matter of time before those on the bubble (wildcards) were eliminated. I hope that does not repeat itself this season.
