American Idol 2018 and Beyond

I just can’t take the judges. There is no chemistry at all in my opinion, the middle school humor and Katy Perry acting like she is in love with all the young boys is ridiculous. Our friend hasn’t had her time on camera yet so I am patiently (maybe not so patiently, haha) waiting until I see her and then I guess I will be back for Hollywood week.

I have to say the middle school humor has probably always been a part of auditions. I swear that one member always gives you the impression they are liquored up before they start taping - and this season it’s Katy. Used to be Paula!

I could never watch the auditions “live” - meaning sit through 2 hours of them. I always DVR and buzz through. But I’m that way about most tv

Just watched Monday’s show. It seemed much more “grown-up” than Sunday’s.

These sad backstories are making me realize how blessed I and my children have been. My D sings and has always said she could never do one of these shows because her life has been too easy!

The baby was adorable. And the sister thing was totally contrived.

I thought that stunt Katy Perry pulled at the end last night was incredibly mean spirited. Of course, maybe not her idea but one of the producers’.

In any case, I didn’t find it funny.

Sometimes I do not know what is wrong with her. If the producers came up with the idea, shame on them. I hope this young lady gets a nice “bump upwards” from this.

What happened???
(or did you have to watch it to get it…)

Here’s the clip, abasket. If anyone is still planning on watching the show and does not want to know, do NOT click on the link below:

Oh! Is it Hollywood week now? Started Sunday or Monday night? If so, then I will go ahead and watch that taped!

But thank you for providing the link …as soon as I confirm it’s Hollywood week I’ll be watching - I thought we were still doing auditions.

Hollywood week started Monday. There were still auditions Sunday.

Yes… Hollywood Week 1 (I think?) just aired starting this past Sunday. I have not seen it on Hulu yet.
Thanks for the correction, JustaMom.

Well just finished watching. I am so curious if that was her idea or if she was prompted. Weird.

Overall, many good voices and personalities. LOTS of good looking guys I must say. LOTS of young ones!

^^Well, nothing wrong with good looking guys…I guess I’d better start watching now

Hoping AI doesn’t get themselves back into trouble again by picking people because they are young and good looking. They need to be able to sing well, and I think that’s why AI went down the tubes in the first place. Sure, attractive people sell, apparently young people sell (though it’s not that appealing to me), but you have to sound good. Glad to know you think there are many good voices on there, too.

Just watched last night’s show. I’m glad that there wasn’t all the usual mean drama in the group round. I think it’s a much better message to promote kindness and unity.

There was a girl from Dallas who auditioned. They haven’t shown her at all, and I don’t know if she made it through or not, but I know she can sing. I can’t imagine that she would not have at least made it to Hollywood. Maybe they will show her in the next round; however, they seem to be showing the same ones.

Too late to edit. She did make it to Hollywood, but they haven’t featured her. I saw her briefly in the audience during the group round and she posted on her Facebook page that she made it to Hollywood. I hope they show her singing. She went to the same college as my D, but is a little younger. Not sure if my D knew her there or not, but her mother used to be on CC so I feel like I “almost” know her. LOL

I didn’t like the stunt at the end either. That poor girl. In fact, I burst into tears when it was resolved. i felt it was mean and unwarranted, not funny.

This show is making me dislike Katy Perry.

Katy is the “Paula”, “Nikki M”, “Mariah”, “Steven Tyler” - the more out of control, attention seeking judge. The other two - Lionel and Luke seem pretty even keel. I do think she shows some sincerity at times and is emotionally moved - but her shtick is to be the life of the party.

Here is the remaining schedule. The show airs on back-to-back nights for 4 more weeks, then once per week showings for 4 weeks, with the finale on Monday 5/21:

Sunday, April 1st (2 Hours): Hollywood Week Part 2
Monday, April 2nd (2 Hours): Showcase & Green Mile Top 50
Sunday, April 8th (2 Hours): Semi-Finals (Top 24) Group 1 Solo Performances
Monday, April 9th (2 Hours): Semi-Finals (Top 24) Group 1 Celebrity Duets
Sunday, April 15th (2 Hours): Semi-Finals (Top 24) Group 2 Solo Performances
Monday, April 16th (2 Hours): Semi-Finals (Top 24) Group 2 Celebrity Duets
Sunday, April 22nd (2 Hours): Live Finals
Monday, April 23rd (2 Hours): Live Finals
Sunday, April 29th (2 Hours): Live Finals
Sunday, May 6th (2 Hours): Live Finals
Sunday, May 13th (2 Hours): Live Finals
Sunday, May 20th (2 Hours): Live Finale
Monday, May 21st: Live Finale

Just watched Hollywood Week 1 on Hulu. Much less coverage of the drama, as musicmom pointed out, and more time spent on the performances in the group segment. New network, new improved format.

I was hoping we would see a little deeper talent pool than what has been shown. My enthusiasm is sure to increase once they begin to “produce” the performances. That is not to say I don’t love a few of these young artists already. For me, Maddie Poppe and Jonny Brenns are the top standouts so far. I also really liked the girl Youdontsay mentioned- Alyssa Raghu. Also like Jurnee. And, I’m still a Laine Hardy fan even though his contribution to his group number was awful. Busdriver mentioned good looking singers with mediocre vocal ability. For me the person who fit this best was Lee Vasi. She was the lady who did the duet with Lionel in the week 3 auditions. A stunning girl who really should not have been sent through, based on her vocal ability, imo.

Top-24 is right around the corner…

I am intrigued with the goofy girl (group Taco) who is so annoying she is really getting on my nerves. And then she sings and I find I really like her voice. A little bit of her goes a long way, and so far they have shown way too much of her “personality.”
