^Catie Turner. She is getting on my nerves as well but America really seems to like her!
I don’t know anyone by name yet! BUT I do believe I know Catie by your description!
The one girl who stands out for me is the light skinned African American girl who I think is 15 and is there with her dad who they show in the audience teary eyed each time she sings. She has long straighter hair and has a deep voice when she sings - anyone know her name???
abasket, Her name is Alyssa Raghu.
^^ Thank you - do you keep a notebook??? I have another AI friend who has kept a notebook over the years as he watches!!!
^Haha, no, no notebook for Idol. I DO keep spiral bound notes on The Voice however, for what good it does me. Discarded end of each season. BTW, Alyssa has a longer last name. I do not recall what it is but I’m sure someone on this thread can provide it.
She’s Indian. Here’s a story …
@“Youdon’tsay” thanks for two things…straightening me out on her ethnicity…and posting that audition - I hadn’t seen it - I’m like all choked up!!
She is my favorite right now. There are three or four who I really like.
Besides Alyssa, who else?
Speaking of names… Jackie Foster, one of the front runners on the Voice this season, has her boyfriend competing on Idol. Does anyone know his name and did he make it through Hollywood Week 1?
Alyssa is on the top of my list as well.
Currently, this is my top female, Maddie Poppe:
Click on the 2nd YouTube listing from the top. Edit: During Season 10 of The Voice, she got NO CHAIR TURNS during her Blind Audition!
@jshain I have two categories … personal faves who aren’t likely to go far and those with excellent voices who have a chance.
- Laine Hardy. I don't think he can win, but I think that he's talented enough and cute so the girls will vote for him.
- Marcio Donaldson, who sang Jealous. Ds2 made me listen to that song about a year ago and told me the real story behind it (it's about his father and was co-written by two big Nashville songwriters), so when Marcio sang it and sang it well, I was done. I'm not sure he has the control/experience to keep up with the big boys; I was just moved.
- Brandon Diaz, the Berklee kid -- excellent voice and great falsetto.
I don’t even know whether these people made it out of group rounds, but these are the ones who really stuck out. Interestingly, there aren’t any women other than Alyssa who are memorable. I do like Jurnee, and Lee Vasi is attractive and has an it factor. Don’t think she can win.
Youdon’tsay, Yes! They all made it out of the group rounds and, likely, well beyond.
No disrespect to Brandon, Marcio, or Laine but this is my new male front runner. Sorry for the 30 second Sprint commercial. His guitar work is also “finger lickin good”!:

I like him, too, @jshain . I think he will go far. Isn’t he the one who was a rodeo cowboy until he broke his leg?
Hmm, he sounds too much like Philip Phillips to me.
musicmom, Yes, but could also be mixing him up with Caleb Hutchinson. One of them said in their back story that you either fished (?) or did rodeo in the town they were from. Pretty sure it was Cade. He also auditioned for the Voice a couple/few years ago and wasn’t selected. In 2014 he won a prestigious guitar competition. I cannot wait to hear him play his electric guitar in the coming weeks!
He also plays the piano. Check him out on YouTube.
Busdriver, he is much raspier than Phil Phil.
Just now realized that Mara Justine was a Top-12 finisher on AGT, in 2014, when she was 11-years-old. Here is her audition on YouTube:
I didn’t love her audition, but she’s going to be a force moving forward. Also rising for me: Michelle Sussett, Caleb Hutchinson, and Garrett Jacobs. Took a major step backwards in this solo round but hope he gets it back together: Jonny Brenns. Edit: Love, love, love Maddie Poppe.
Wish the judges would not talk and act out while the artists are performing. Very annoying.
Just watched the Top-24 get picked and am very happy with the selection, with one possible exception— Catie Turner. I personally didn’t think she was ready to move forward. If she does well, which is likely, it could be for all the wrong reasons. Thought Laine should have been included in the Top-24. His group effort hurt him and the judges may have thought he needed to mature some more. Hopefully he comes back because he could go far.
Glad that Adam Sanders, aka Ada Vox, got selected. He has undeniable vocal ability.
Laughed when Katy thinks Mara Justine should “tone it down” and “take some of the frosting off the cake”. (The pot calling the kettle…) But, she was right!
I have a new favorite female: Jurnee Siani. She is the 18-year-old girl whose wife is in the military. She has the most incredible tone and control, especially for someone her age. I think she will really shine in the glossy, overproduced Live Shows, along with my favorite male artist Cade Foehner. There are many others who I really like: Maddie Poppe, Caleb Hutchinson, Garrett Jacobs, Michele Sussett, Dennis Lorenzo, Ada Vox, Marcio Donaldson, Gabby Barrett, Marcio Donaldson, Mara Justine, Michael Woodard, Alyssa Raghu, and Brandon Diaz.
Really looking forward to the Live Shows!
I enjoyed last night, too. I’m happy with their top 24. My H is surprised by how much he likes the judges this season. I like them, too, but think Katy should “tone it down” and “take some of the frosting off the cake” herself. With her antics and facial expressions, it feels like she has to have attention on her at all times.
