I was sorry to see Alyssa go but she had a bad song choice to feature her voice - Yellow is a phenomenal song - but it’s largely about the instrumental.
Call me caddy, but I’m thrilled Garrett made it through. He and his gf, so adorable!
Also jumped on the Marcio train tonight. Loved that rendition of the song.
Mara drives me crazy. I just can’t stand her personality - feels like fake news to me!!!
Also, it would be ok with me if Lea Michelle won American Idol this year - I just ADORE her and her voice is STELLAR. Her duet with Jurnee was amazing.
So I watched the two duet shows tonight. There were some talented singers sent home, but that’s how it goes. There were three that stayed that I just didn’t get: Johnny Brenns, Garrett Jacobs (yes, he and his girlfriend are as cute as can be, but that’s not supposed to be the criteria), and Maddie Pope. They were fine, but not elite singers on a national level such as expected from AI.
There are some really talented singers moving forward. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
Michael J. Woodard said of pro Pat Monahan: “This guy is the real deal, man. He’s just as good as Google said he was.”
That seemed not a wise or respectful thing to say on National TV about a very talented professional. In other words, “I never heard of him and had to Google him.” Granted, some of these performers are very young, and Pat is a “veteran,” but that kind of rubbed me wrong. That said, I thought Michael is really talented and was deserving of making the cut.
Makes me even more bitter when I think that Laine Hardy was THE male Country artist and more deserving than Caleb (or Garrett), imo.
Question: Is there an “easy” way to post the iTunes download rankings for the Idol performances without having to wade through ALL of the rankings for single’s downloads? On The Voice, for example, PopVortex has a category for just Voice artists but there doesn’t seem to be one for just Idol performances.
I think the “real” criteria is diversity of styles. They obviously want a country person, a rock person, R&B, etc. The younger you are and the more dramatic your backstory, the better.
^^ This may sadly be true. It was painful to watch the contestants as the names - mostly girls - were announced first. You could see the faces of those girls not being picked drop because they knew, each girl picked that is not me means less chance I’ll be picked.
I was telling a friend that this years contestants are head and shoulders above many other years. In fact, the last couple AI winners? - I don’t know if they would even MAKE the top 24 of this group!
I really liked the introduction of the celebrity duets into Idol at this stage of the competition and, for the most part, everyone shined. I felt really bad for Alyssa Raghu. The pairing, song choice, arrangement, and performance was not good— and mostly beyond her control.
Absolutely loved Lea, Rachel, Cam, and Allen. Liked Colbie and Banners. I thought Bebe was the weakest of the celebs.
My favorite duet was Shannon and Cam singing Burning House but Ada, Marcio, Jurnee, Mara, and Effie also did well.
II thought Effie should have been a Country artist from the first time I heard her. I feel her wardrobe choices hurt her and that there was always a big disconnect with the way she looked versus the way she dressed.
The one I am saddest the most about going home is probably Shannon.
Voting starts tomorrow, Sunday 4/22. Results will be announced on the Monday 4/23 show. Top 6 vote-getters automatically advance but will sing a “victory song”. The remaining 8 sing “for their lives”. Judges pick 4 that will comprise the Top-10. Download the nbc.com app using the link below:
I am so irritated that I’ve missed most of this! At least it’s recorded, and from the sounds of it, this year appears worthwhile to view. I wonder if AI will be successful enough to have a follow on season.
Cool. Will try to watch tonight because I’m actually available. Didn’t realize they did AI on Saturdays. Good about another season, hopefully without Katie!
