American Idol 2018 and Beyond

I always loved Simon. Yes, he could be brutally honest, but sometimes that is really what is called for. I’m missing that. Harry Connick, Jr. was the only judge lately that I feel gave really valuable criticism in addition to praise.

I miss Simon immensely. The show was never the same after he departed. The other one I miss, almost as much as Simon, is Jimmy Iovine. His recaps of the previous night’s performances were spot on.

I would like to make a (final, for me) comment about Adam Sanders, aka Ada Vox. After skieurope posted that they believed drag performers preferred the pronoun associated with their onstage gender, I messaged a long time friend who personally knows several drag queens. After speaking to at least one of them, this was his reply:

“Referring to them as ‘he’ is perfectly fine since it is drag… and not a transgender person”.

Ada Vox might very well prefer to be referred to as “she” or “her”, when dressed accordingly, as well as other drag queens. I will never know for sure what the percentages are and am glad skieurope posted.

I am just going to refer to Ada as, wel… Ada. Unless, of course, he performs as Adam.

I just watched Monday’s show and thought nearly all of them had good performances, especially Jonny and Garrett. I don’t like Michelle one little bit and I hope she goes soon. Although I thought Mara was better than Michelle, I’m tired of her crying. And Marcio, too. They were bringing me down.

I thought Catie exercised more self-restraint tonight and did not annoy me as much. She is a very pretty girl and it looks like they have done a little makeover with the hair and makeup, BUT I am 60 years old and I would not wear that frumpy outfit she was wearing. I do like her voice a lot.

And I think Katy Perry is beautiful.

I agree about Katy Perry’s physical beauty. Such incredible blue eyes!

Sunday night 4/28 the top 10 perform. The theme is Disney Night and Idina Menzel will mentor the singers before each of their performances. The show will air simultaneously in every time zone for voting purposes (similar to how voting works on The Voice) and 3 people are eliminated this week.

Here are the song SPOILERS:

Ada Vox – Circle of Life by Elton John (Lion King)
Cade Foehner – Kiss the Girl (The Little Mermaid)
Caleb Lee Hutchinson – You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Toy Story)
Catie Turner – Once Upon a Dream (Sleeping Beauty)
Dennis Lorenzo – Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton John (Lion King)
Gabby Barrett – Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas)
Jurnee – How Far I’ll Go by Auli’i Cravalho/Alessia Cara (Moana)
Michelle Sussett – Remember Me (Coco)
Michael J. Woodard – Beauty and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
Maddie Poppe – The Bare Necessities (Jungle Book)

I’m sorry but I can’t believe they are doing a DISNEY night! Seriously, I may not even watch. The Bare Necessities? I don’t care how you change it that’s just WEIRD.

I can believe it, since ABC is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.

I hate the forced theme nights.

I’m not crazy about most theme nights, but I was very annoyed when my husband deleted (before I saw it) the night when they did Phantom of the Opera songs, the season with David Cooke and David Archuletta.

Agree with any of you who are not fans of theme nights, especially since song choice is so critical now. It seems to promote the network more than the competitor.

Lucky me–I’m hosting a family birthday celebration Sunday evening. I’ll have to catch the Disney night later, unless you all tell me not to bother!

I saw Dennis perform and then the results. Were there any standouts that I need to watch on youtube or somewhere?

I watched each performance (none of the filler) and I was pleasantly surprised with Bare Necessities! I thought Maddie did a great job with it, and I also thought I heard a country vibe from her. And Cade. Holy cow. He completely made that song his. The rest were just ok, but I didn’t think anyone was terrible.

I thought they were all pretty good. I liked Maddie and Cade, too. My H really liked Katie.

Just watched all of the performances on YouTube (not up on Hulu yet) of Disney Goes Drag Night. The irony is tickling my funny bone! Good show overall but I prefer Ada singing in a higher key. Also, did not like Jurnee’s song choice. Thought everyone else picked great songs. Eliminating 3 is going to be tough. Probably ones that were saved last week go home this week. I hope Jurnee is not one of them. She and Maddie were my favorite females, right from the start, and still are. There were a couple of Maddie-haters amongst you back then. I won’t name names. You know who you are.

It looks like Cade and Gabby formed an alliance? Memories of Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood…

Just watched the show on Hulu. Just want to remind those of you who have not watched the show yet— there is NO Monday show 4/30. Real time voting already took place and the results were announced at the end of Sunday’s show.

DWTS airs in the Monday slot now, except for the Idol finale in a few weeks.

SONG SPOILERS for the top-7 this Sunday. Each artist will sing 2 songs— 1) a song performed or written by PRINCE and 2) a song from the YEAR they were BORN. The songs from the year they were born will be posted as soon as it becomes available:

Songs Performed or Written by Prince:

Cade Foehner – Jungle Love by The Time (written, produced by Prince)
Caleb Lee Hutchinson – When Doves Cry
Catie Turner – Manic Monday by The Bangles (written by Prince)
Gabby Barrett – How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore
Jurnee – Kiss
Maddie Poppe – Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinéad O’Connor (written by Prince, recorded on side project)
Michael J. Woodard – I Would Die 4 U

You may have noticed nobody is singing “Purple Rain.” For whatever reason, the song was not cleared to be performed on the show.

Songs from The Year Each Artist Was Born:

Cade Foehner – 1996 – Who Will Save Your Soul by Jewel
Caleb Lee Hutchinson 1999 – Amazed by Lonestar
Catie Turner – 2000 – Oops! … I Did It Again by Britney Spears –
Gabby Barrett – 2000 – I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack
Jurnee – 2000 – Back At One by Brian McKnight
Maddie Poppe – 1997 – If It Makes You Happy by Sheryl Crow
Michael J. Woodard – 1997 – My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion

Cade is the old man, at 21!

Are none of you watching in the east?

I know who was eliminated. Let’s just say I was really happy on one and sad on the other.

I watched. Thought the results were appropriate based on tonight’s performances

I’m OK with the results. The two I thought deserved to move on did. Most performances weren’t great.
