I’m sure that’s it. Let the kid get the title and Cook get the career.

That’s how I interpreted Simon’s wink wink

I was out last night but DD recorded it! Thank goodness I didn’t have to depend on a man/boy type to remember-it’s just not in the dude chip.

I actually prefer watching a recording…you speed past all the commercials and peripheral junk. The whole show takes about 17 minutes…

I’d prefer a recording, too. YouTube, not so much.

Good interpretation of the wink.

But maybe someone can tell me how much free-er a runner up AI is with his career than the actual AI. I thought they had contracts that affected them either from the beginning or once they reached Top 24/Top 10. But I’ve never read up on it.

The music industry has been so comprehensively destroyed that nobody really has any idea what “a career” even means right now. Basically, nobody is selling anything. The entire record company model is in nuclear meltdown. All the record stores have gone bankrupt and the big box merchants like Best Buy are planning drastic cutbacks in their CD selections – basically going the WalMart route of new releases and greatest hits compilations.

Except itunes. Obviously, a new business model is badly needed.

If my household is any indicator, then everything is Ipod oriented. My D has the Ipod alarm clock, Ipod speakers and is never more than a few inches away from it. She would spend as much money on itunes as I would let her. I think she would spend every penny of her graduation money on itunes if I were not holding the “laptop card.” At least she pays for every tune - never goes to Limewire or the free sites to steal it so someone is profitting somewhere. With the exeption of Kelly Clarkson, she has never heard anyone on AI that she would walk into the next room to hear though. She thinks the whole show is geared towards tweens and 50 year olds.

Seemed to me David C knew exactly what he was doing.I don’t think he wanted to win and be so beholden to the big boys there.I think he didn’t plan on making it to this point, thought he’d go out like Daughtry. Less pressure on #2 than #1. He gave it away to David A last night, even making the comment about not repeating a proven winning song.
I hope David A. manages to speak coherently during all the interviews to come and learns to sing with his eyes open (it was funny when A.Lloyd Weber told him to learn to sing with his eyes open last night!)He can then go on to sing all the syrupy sweet ballads the producers have in store for him, and when David C is done with the tour he can go home and have his own recording career.

I agree with youdon’tsay–in fact, I hope it turns out that way. David A. should win–he’s excellent, but a work-in-progress because of his youth and his sweet lack of composure when interviewed. It’ll do him a world of good to have someone guiding him over the next few years. David C., on the other hand, seems ready to roll in a Chris Daughtry kind of way. (Only better.) … I just listened to his “Billie Jean” on YouTube, and to me, that was the “aha!” moment of the season.

Finally, just finished watching last night’s episode. Yea, two different styles definitely. I guess I expected more out of David C., but I still think he’s got talent. David A.'s voice has something unique about it that I respect.

I agree that David A is still a work in progress, and it would be a shame if AI took advantage of that if he wins. Hopefully he will continue to develop his own style, whereas I think David C. has already accomplished that to some degree and wouldn’t be as maleable to the AI producers.

Were you able to hear it OK? ;)

(if yours was not the thread I was reading a whole ago my question will make no sense whatsoever)

I might be the only teenage guy on this thread, so here’s my confession: I actually watched the songs from last night on Youtube (GASP)!

Frankly, normally I don’t watch Idol ever because I generally find most of the contestants pretty middling, and the format derivative and boring. I was coerced into watching last week, and thought both Davids and Syesha were all pretty bad, to be honest. This week, though, they were all much better - though I would give it to Cook. Doubt he’ll win, though - powerful rock songs aren’t as popular with the voters and judges on Idol I think.

swimcatsmom - yes, you were correct; am not sure how well I heard things, but I at least watched it before the finals… which, by the way, I will have to Tivo again.

One request… if anyone wants to make any posts after the winner is announced, can you put spoiler in capital letters at the beginning of your post so we don’t ruin it for those on the West Coast who will see it later than us? After it’s aired out there, then no need to write out spoiler.

David won with 56% of the vote ;)

As a west coaster, I try to remember to completely avoid the internet after the program has aired on the east coast. More than once I’ve gone to any random news website and been spoiled.

Has anyone checked out today’s dialidol.com predictions? Hmmm.

Unfortunately, Dialidol can’t predict text message votes, and the young Archulettites are more likely to text vote than call…

I’m an Oregonmom as well, so I’m officially signing out of AI forums now!!!

I hope you are right SJTH about the texting… I really would like to see A win.

That whole Guru thing was a bit odd

OMG - is it just me or is the show dreadful tonight? I wish I was watching a recording the show - so i could fast forward through it. I am so bored. When I am not cringing. My face probably looks like Simons during the fantasia performance last week. I was thinking of buying tickets to the tour - after the last hour and 15 minutes of misery i don’t think I will!!
