American Idol closet fans

The interesting thing is, for this supposed pop ‘contest’, Kelly Clarkson is the only winner who has had a truly sustained career as a pop singer. Ruben vanished pretty quickly. Carrie Underwood has been successful but with country songs. Where is Taylor? Jordin has succeeded in oversinging to the point where she has suffered damage to her vocal chords and has had to cancel a planned summer tour with Alicia Keys.

The musical theatre issue is a funny one because many of the most talented vocalists from each season have found their success in theatre (either before or after AI) - Fantasia, Tamyra Gray, Clay Aiken, Diana DeGarmo, LaToya London, Jennifer Hudson, Anwar Robinson, Constantine Maroulis, Anthony Fedorov, Katharine McPhee, LaKisha Jones.

I agree with Randy that a good singer can sing any genre.

Kelly Pickler is having a lot of success in the country music genre also. And she made it to about the final 6 i think.

I never understood why Taylor Hicks won.

Tonight I thought:

Syesha - Wow, she was amazing! She would be fantastic at musical theatre! She’s a natural.

Jason - Kind of rocky at the start, dude, but he worked it out in the end. Still, not his strongest performance.

Brooke - That slip-up at the start was really unfortunate. Overall I thought it was just OK. My love for her is slipping.

David A - Love that song. He did a pretty good job with it, but I still don’t see him winning American Idol. He seems far too young and “golly gee whiz” for my tastes.

Carly - Good song choice for her voice, but I don’t think she sang it particularly well, nor did she do anything special or interesting with it.

David C - My absolute FAVORITE ALW song!!! He did an excellent job!

I predict the bottom two will be Jason and Brooke, with Brooke going home.

Taylor who? (JK. He’s in the “where is he now” category.)

bump

AND… they said Neil Diamond will be working with the group next week.

I can’t believe Brooke is safe and Syesha is in the bottom 2 this week!!

Wow, I really thought brooke would be in the bottom 2 and going home…I think she thought so too! Poor thing. I think she is going to implode.

did you hear Paula tell Brooke not to apologize to Syesha?

well, whoever goes home tonight, doesn’t deserve it in my opinion.

However, if it’s Syesha, then I have faith she’ll be successful on Broadway, just sooner rather than later.

Wow that was a shocker, Carly going home! Syesha also was in the bottom two. I thought for sure that Brooke and Jason would be bottom . I must admit though, I didn’t like her. The Tatts really threw me every week!

so can anyone explain how Brooke got more votes than Syesha and Carly?

Beats me. Brooke really should have gone home.

I liked Carly. Don’t like the Tatts. Like the singing though.

I think it’s because of a rebound effect. When a contestant that people like doesn’t do well (or receives negative comments from the judges), they vote for them for fear that they are in jeopardy. Since AI has people voting FOR people as opposed to voting who they think should be sent home, weird outcomes happen like this. They think those who did well (or received positive comments) will be safe without their vote. Just my 2 cents.

I am surprised, but this is the kind of thing that seems to happen at this point in the competition. Some excellent singers have been kicked off too early when it starts to get to the last 5 or 6 competitors. Fortunately, quite a few of them have gone on to great things!

swimcatsmom - I agree with you, and I know many people don’t like the tattoos (they don’t bother me). However, I speculated that Carly would do well this week, especially with people who don’t like the tattoos, because they were covered up.

Yea - Simon apologized to Carly for praising her -“kiss of death”

I think Brooke might have been relieved to go home. I know I’d have been relieved. It is getting painful watching her. & she started off as one of my favorites.

teri - yeah - I though Carly was safe this week.

As far as Brooke - dont “watch” her…just listen. I really like her voice but she is painful to watch. She needs some self-confidence!

I was never was able to connect with Carly and David A is just too “aw-shucks” for me, but he can sing!

I’m leaning towards David Cook.

IMO, this week was the biggest shocker yet. I really thought Brooke and Jason would be the bottom 2 and that Jason would go. I confess to voting for Brooke because although I don’t think she can win, I want to see her go out on a high note. I thought that was what happened for Carly. I think Simon hit the nail on the head when he said people voted for Brooke because of their reaction to her flub and how it made her human (and for me because I thought it was tacky the way Paula rebuked her; more than ever Paula’s behavior leaves a lot to be desired).
Still hoping for David Cook to win.

Brooke has the VoteForTheWorst crowd. I liked her earlier performances, but it seems now that she isn’t quite ready for primetime (literally).

IMO American Idol this year has already been decided in the school of public opinion…If they didn’t perform anymore, the public would vote and it would be done…The performances the next few weeks will not affact the decisions (as we can see from last night’s results)…

EIther Cook or Archeletta will probably win…and should…

But, Neil Diamond??? What will everyone sing? “love on the rocks?”“”“”“”
