I just do not get the judges’ love of Deandre…

Skyler–I can’t take her voice. It’s a combination of screaming and nails on a chalkboard
DeAndre–I don’t get the judges love for him. PS: cut that hair!
Holly–No personality or connection to an audience.
Philip–Cute guy, but every song is the same. I’m now bored by his performances
Joshua–inconsistent
Colten–I didn’t love his song choice, but I still think he’s the only one of the bunch who has a chance to sell records.

I can’t even remember the other performances–thus, no stand outs.

It was another bad AI show. The 80’s theme was really stupid.

I enjoyed watching Wednesday night’s show with my D, home from college for Easter week, who does NOT ever watch the show. Some of her comments…

(DeAndre)
“Did he just flip his hair? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy flip his hair. Oh my god, did he just flip his hair again?”

(Judges Steven and JLo)
“What’s with using the word ‘beautiful’ so much?”

“What parent would name their kid Philip Philips?”

“Is this the best they can come up with out of the many thousands of people who audition?”

I really liked Joshua’s performance along with Elise and Philip"s duet the best tonight. Skylar gave a good performance and, I agree, her voice quality really suffers when she tries to hit those big notes. It was refreshing not seeing her bouncing around for a change. Thought Elise and Hollie’s performances were awful.

Just watched the end on DVR. In my mind Colten is so far ahead of the others it’s ridiculous. Interesting that I actually liked Holly better in the rehearsal with no doubt. I think the stylists are dressing her like an old lady and it is hurting her. ditto Skylar who is being styled like an aging frumpy country has been.

But for some reason the viewers keep voting for Holly. I really thought she would be the one going home tonight.

I’m thinking the only time the judges would use the save is for Jessica or Colton.

i missed it tonight. I read somewhere else that Deandre went home, but who else was in the bottom?

Hollie and Elise^^^

The judges seemed to imply that America got it half right…of the bottom two, only one of them belonged there. I’m guessing that they meant that the bottom two should have been Hollie and Elise?

If so, why didn’t either Randy or Steven vote to save Deandre?

I think that some of Jimmy Iovine’s comments were spot on: Jessica performed her song well, but the song didn’t really showcase her talents as much as Joshua’s song showcased his. Phillip’s performance was just “good,” not great. Interesting how he thought Elise’s song choice was perfect, but that she just didn’t perform it as well as she had in rehearsal.

I seem to be in the minority, but I liked Skylar’s performance and agree with Jimmy that it showed a side of her voice that we hadn’t really seen before.

Song choice is going to be really important from now on…what nutcase theme are we going to have next week?

Deandre will get a contract with Disney and he will be on the teeny bopper shows on the Disney Channel. His performance style is taken right from the Mickey Mouse club…

Hollie could end up in the same spot as Deandre.

I think Colton is a given that he is the most marketable and will be better off NOT winning because he then doesn’t have to represent the Idol “label”. Jessica should win to give her that extra time to mature, much like Jordin Sparks.

SteveMA, I agree with you! And I’m so glad that I don’t have to listen to that weak falsetto anymore or watch that crazy hair-infatuated flip that Deandre does.

I think the voters got it 100% right this week. The 3 worst performances were in the bottom 3, including DeAndre. He wasn’t THE worst Wednesday night, just ONE of the worst, but voters saved him last week after JLo’s shameless plea to vote for him and they were not about to save him again.

So glad he’s gone. I couldn’t have listened to that squealing falsetto one more night
Tired of Jennifer mooning over DeAndre and defending him at every turn even when the votes proved that America was not in love with him. Thought it was sort of cowardly to let everyone know the “no save” decision was on Steven and Randy’s back.

They will have to use the save sooner or later since Jermaine was disqualified. Of the ones who have been in the bottom (Hollie and Elise), I think they would use it on Elise, although I don’t really care much for her. Also, I like country music a little, but Skylar does nothing for me. My favorite is Joshua, probably because I like the songs he picks. I didn’t realize he was only 19 until he said so last week.

JLo didn’t say anything that we didn’t already know–she was going to try to save Deandre–thank goodness Randy and Steven held the line!

I didn’t realize that Joshua was only 19 either. He is my favorite, too, and I hope he feels better soon. Even when he goes over-the-top in his performance I love it. There is some hidden gospel girl in me that wants to come out when he sings.

I was surprised that the judges were so hard on Hollie when she was trying so hard to step up the tempo and loosen up. She is still a bit of a pageant girl but they didn’t give her any positive feedback.

I hope Elise has a better week … I think her self esteem is not strong enough to handle another bad week; she clearly gets nervous under pressure, as demonstrated by her talking to much when Ryan asked her a question about her performance. I’m sure this whole Idol experience puts all of them under intense pressure that they are not used to feeling, so hopefully she toughens up. This is a cold hard business.

It is a cold hard business and what is amazing is that the often-teeny bopper contestants hold up remarkably well. We haven’t had any of the breakdowns that I saw on last season’s X Factor…

Hollie must hear the footsteps of elimination dogging her…Elise also, but we’ve seen that Elise has the capability to pull her chestnuts out of the fire with a fabulous performance. At this stage of the Idol competition, you don’t have to be great–you just have to be better than the worst contestant to continue on.

Now it’ll soon be time to get some momentum up for the finals…Joshua has already started the push…Jessica, Phillip and Colton are going to have to pick it up.

So what caused Joshua’s fainting spells? Was he ill?

Not sure what caused Joshua’s illness. If I were a physician, and didn’t know what was wrong with him, I’d call it a “virus”.

I think Elise needs to go back to accompanying herself on the piano. For me, she seems to be more of a force to be reckoned with when she is doing that singer-songwriter thing of hers.

But her big breakthrough came from singing a rock song. And if only she had sung her song last week as well as she had done so in rehearsal, according to Jimmy Iovine, she would have knocked our socks off. I think the judges would like to see her behind the piano again.

Song selection and not choking will be critical for next week…

I think the judges will save their save for a week when one of their faves has a bad week. Maybe they won’t have to use it this season.

The judges have to use the save this season. The the finale is slated for May 23/24. If they don’t save someone, it will end May 16/17 because Jermaine left early. I think that this year when they use the save there will not be 2 contestants sent home the following week as usual.

I think that if they don’t use the save by the time that there are 5 left, they will use it no matter what. I think that they are saving it just in case someone like Jessica or Joshua or Colton would be sent home earlier than they expect.

Silverlady–one year they had a week where no one got sent home—maybe when Jordin Sparks won or when David Archuletta was on, can’t remember for sure. It was also the year they did the big fundraiser show for Idol Gives Back when they all performed in white. I might be getting some details mixed up in my old mind but there is often a week worked in for stuff like that.
