America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

The entire show is just ho-hum. I got home from a meeting and only watched the last hour. This is getting very boring. I am not sure how this is any different from Idol, etc, other than Simon dresses better, the judges drink Pepsi, and Simon does Verizon commercials. Oh, and all the judges just seem to say nice things about everybody.

I can’t think of any of the singers that I am in love with, they all just start to sound the same. The groups look like variety show singers,

I was hoping for something different, but I’m very disappointed. I guess I will stick with Idol, the tried and true. It is sometimes boring too, but at least it is the original.

I’m sticking to watching it on DVR. The only performances I didn’t fast forward: Drew, Josh, Desperado girl (can’t remember her name). I thought the groups were terrible. Stacy is too over the top for me. Astro so annoying. The same old stupid comments between the judges. Thank goodness for fast forward.

Desperado girl is Melanie. Drew, Josh and Melanie are also my favorite three.

Stopped watching a couple of weeks ago- way too slick and over-produced and staged.

IMO Simon is so snippy because the show is failing.

I completely agree with you on your first point, performersmom, the show is way too glossy and overproduced. They need to strip it down a lot for my liking. All the pyrotechnics, choreography, and such might look and sound good live and in-person, but it doesn’t necessarily work on TV.

I still believe this cast of solo performers is superior to American Idol’s cast of finalists from the most recent season. I thought the country guy, who was sent home on XFactor a couple weeks ago, was better than Scotty McCreery who WON American Idol this past season. I’m not sure any of the top 3 Idol contestants would even have made the solo cut on XFactor.

I have to agree with you about comparing these singers to AI, jshain.

According to Simon, the show has been renewed for next year. I’m surprised, but then it must be watched heavily by a demographic prized by advertisers (which is NOT over 50s female).

Someone posted this over a week ago, but it still speaks for me:

I will add that I do like Chris Rene and have joined the Marcus fan club as well.

I didn’t like the song choice for Drew this week, but I think she has perfected the art form of “making a song her own.” Josh did that for me this week. Song choice for Rachel was s-o-o-o wrong… but she is just a novelty anyway, I think, until she gets a little older. (Disclaimer: WTH do I know?)

The show is over-slick, over-produced, over-scripted (can we spell R-E-A-L-I-T-Y TV?) That is why God invented DVR and the fast forward button, as others have commented… probably why I have not been tempted to give up on the show. I pretty much watch the show as I want to see it, to the extent possible.

Well, goodbye to the supergroup…not surprising since lead singer was the only one who sounded good when she sang.

Was it just me, but the countdown to the contestant who would be sent home was so drawn out as to be painful! The producers need to work on that…

I don’t want to spoil anything for the west coasters, but I will say that there were a few good surprises for me. More tomorrow once everyone has had a chance to view.

Rachel had her moment. I’m happy for her.

The X-Factor show happened to be on tonight (W watching it) and what an annoying show! There’s a constantly screaming audience throughout the show including while the singers are performing, while the judges are talking, while anything else is happening, virtually constantly. It really detracts from listening to the actual singers or hearing what the judges are saying. I imagine the show is telling the audience how to react and to scream and they probably have mics there to pick it up but I ended up muting half the show. They really should fix this issue.

Rachel was amazing! Someone must be channeling through that little girl! Where does that come from? “I’d Rather Go Blind”?..Etta James? Rachel SOLD it!

Something told me it was over
When I saw you and her talkin’
Something deep down in my soul said, ‘Cry, girl’
When I saw you and that girl walkin’ around

Whoo, I would rather, I would rather go blind, boy
Then to see you walk away from me, child, no

Whoo, so you see, I love you so much
That I don’t wanna watch you leave me, baby
Most of all, I just don’t, I just don’t wanna be free, no

Whoo, whoo, I was just, I was just, I was just
Sittin here thinkin’, of your kiss and your warm embrace, yeah
When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips now, baby
Revealed the tears that was on my face, yeah

Whoo and baby, baby, I’d rather, I’d rather be blind, boy
Then to see you walk away, see you walk away from me, yeah
Whoo, baby, baby, baby, I’d rather be blind…

And just when you think she must have faked her birth certificate, she acts 13 again.

oh…

Just adding - I think the X-Factor show is filled with great singers despite the obnoxious setting. They’re so good I think it’d be hard to do a clear pick. I think all of the ones tonight should go on to do well.

Agree with Shrinkrap. What a treat to watch Rachel Crow tonight. Finally, a great song choice-- that SHE picked! I was surprised that Simon acknowledged that he hadn’t been doing a great job with her so far as her mentor. Great article about her life, born to a drug addicted mother and living in a crack house until she was adopted at 6 months.

I also liked Chris Rene. I grew up in Northern CA and think it’s really cool how American Idol’s James Durbin and now X Factor’s Chris Rene are both from Santa Cruz, a relatively quaint little beach town. I don’t think there’s enough room for two rappers, so Astro may be going home in the coming weeks although I thought he was good tonight.

Tomorrow night, I think it will be Stacy’s turn to go home.

I’m an “Astro” Naut! (and Ive been in NoCal for 20+years!

^I grew up in Moraga and my parents (both still very active) have lived in the same house since 1956.

Nice!(10 char)

^Just in case anyone wants to watch Rachel’s performance again

I also like Astro. He writes new lyrics for each and every performance.

I wasn’t thrilled with Melanie tonight.

Drew is very talented, but she really does sound like she’s singing the same song every week.

I think it’s time for Stacy, another group (doesn’t really matter which one), or LeRoy to go home.

I didn’t like Drew tonight. Usually I really love her. I also tha the girl group wasn’t that group.

Didn’t like the song choices of Stacy and Melanie.

Rachel was the best performance of the night. Everytime I called to vote the line was busy.

I really love this show. A ton of talent on this show.

^If you go the the XF website you can vote online. You may need a Facebook account but you don’t need to post to your wall if you don’t want. You can also use Twitter to vote, if that is easier for you.
