another one bites the dust

^^^ That’s an interesting idea.

I wonder if the Today show will become NBC’s version of The View?

Why? Just because there are two women leading the show?

ETA: I find that question kind of offensive.

It’s a silly question. Don’t rise to the bait, ladies!

I find it interesting - in a sad, depressing sort of way - that the question posed in #422 would be posed here. As much as some things change, others stay the same.

It is also interesting - again, in a sad, depressing sort of way -that it is most likely true that the woman replacing the man is paid less than he was paid. As much as some things change, others stay the same.

I could see Jenna Bush Hager in the spot with Kathie Lee. Or at least I can see her filling in more. She’s still with The Today Show, correct? I don’t remember seeing her for a while but I’m not a consistent viewer.

I like that idea, deb. She’s young so it would be a nice multigenerational thing, and she’s funny.

@“Cardinal Fang” Matt was such a *star" don’t you know. Where would the rating be without him.

@alwaysamom I’ll take the bait. DH and I discussed the new anchor assignment this morning. We like Hoda. Two female anchors is NBC trying to negate the Lauer damage. My concern is women tend to get too chatty. The Today Show was already sitting on that fence (even before the Lauer crisis). Specifically, I’m talking about people talking on top of others. Maybe they’ll put that chat in check or maybe it’s not the morning show for me. We shall see.

Kathie Lee & Megyn Kelly on air signals to me that that it’s time to get on with my real life.

I like Hoda, but I’m concerned with the amount of news that will be covered. Matt wasn’t deep, Katie wasn’t deep, and sometimes I like a little deep. Savannah is more of a Washington insider and I hope she can carry the serious news stuff. The Today show used to have more news people like Campbell Brown.

I’m wondering if Savannah and Hoda will be doing the Olympics. All those little kids! It is really a long assignment, that’s happening soon, so I hope she has time to get prepared.

@twoinanddone Well, Matt was a father and that never stopped him. Maybe the children’s fathers are going to be the primary parent during this time.

Good thing fathers of young children never cover the Olympics. All those little kids!

Hoda is a single mother. I know she has a long term boyfriend, but it is her child. Katie’s kids were a little older when her husband died. Savannah was pregnant and didn’t go to Rio, so her son is about 1.

I am a single mother. I would not leave my kids for 3-4 weeks for work or any other reason.

Katie’s younger daughter was born in 1996 and her husband died n 1998, so her daughters were still very young when she was widowed. Hoda does have a very highly involved partner but at this point, I don’t believe he is the legal father. It is such a personal choice about leaving young children for long periods of time for work.

Regular people with kids have jobs that sometimes require them to be away from home for weeks at a time. It happens. Parents manage. Kids survive.

I like Hoda. I also hope it doesn’t turn into chat fest for the first hour and stays heavy on news. NBC has plenty of sports announcer types who can handle the Olympics.

I find the Hoda/Kathy Lee rather hokey and seems to mock women. It seems to imply that women are just silly and drink wine at 9 in the morning. Personally, I think it would be a better thought to have someone replace her on the 9 am show so she doesn’t have to juggle being accepted as a journalist at 7 am and a goofball at 9. And as for leaving one’s children… many in the military do it all the time. Its part of life.

I’ve never liked so-called news shows like Today because, IMO, they spend more time on stupid entertainment stuff than on hard-core news. This was the case even when Lauer was on the show. I never thought much of Lauer as a serious news person anyway.

@twoinanddone Well, her fiance lives with her and the baby calls him “daddy.” Their intention is to raise the child together. She said the only reason she adopted singly was to speed things up but he will be legally added.

Hoda is not a single mother. She and Joel, her longtime boyfriend, live together and co-parent their baby. If Hoda goes to Korea for the Olympics, I imagine that between him, family and the nanny, they can handle it.
