I normally make a brisket but since I had recent surgery it is simply too heavy to handle. I would like to make a meat stew of some kind (or turkey) that has vegetables, potatoes and is tasty to serve company for Passover instead of my usual brisket. Any ideas?

I make my brisket in a slow cooker. Anything you can cook in an oven can usually be done in the crock pot.

Care to post a recipe? (Please :))

subscribing to this thread (unless someone wants to merge this into the massive Passover one :)

I made lamb shank with a sauce recipe I have for short ribs and it was heavenly

Brisket

Brown the brisket on the outside only. Then place in the crock pot.

Mix together 1 cup ketchup, 12 oz can of ginger ale, 1 package of French onion soup, 1/2 cup wine.

Pour over the brisket. Cover and cook on low for at least 8 hours, or until meat is falling apart!

Delish and very easy!

Just to note that French onion soup mix usually contains cornstarch.

It is possible to get KLP French onion soup mix, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen KLP ginger ale. Somehow I don’t think Dr. Brown’s cream soda would have precisely the same flavor!

You can use a can of Coke instead.

Obviously I’m not a Passover purist.

The availability of KLP Ginger ale is probably according to where you live. In the NY metro area, I buy it in a kosher supermarket. The brand is Beer Mayim. It is bottled in Brooklyn. Phone number (718) 782-5361. Perhaps they distribute in other parts of the country? I’m not sure if any of the standard US soda companies make KLP Ginger ale.

Save my brisket recipe for after Passover. It will be less of a headache and will still taste delicious.

Oh…serve with mashed potatoes.

Great to know, JZMOM2! In Michigan, I think we could only get KLP Coke products; in New England, we also get Dr. Brown’s, but I’ve never seen Beer Mayim. Pesach is the only time I ever buy soda, since one of my kids is mildly allergic to corn syrup.
