So I realized that, after all these years of rooting for Tiger, I really had to get some new dogs in the hunt to enjoy the majors this year.
I took in the World Golf Rankings earlier in the week (I’d rather root for someone who might win):
1 1 Rory McIlroy
2 2 Henrik Stenson
3 3 Bubba Watson
4 4 Jordan Spieth
5 5 Jason Day
6 6 Adam Scott
7 7 Dustin Johnson
8 9 Jim Furyk
9 8 Sergio Garcia
10 10 Jimmy Walker
I actually like all of them except for Stendrick Henson and Sergio. But, knowing how well Spieth played last year as a Masters rookie and knowing that he’s been on a hot streak for the last few months. I figured I’d go with Bubba and Jordan.
Looks like spieth was a good pick. Wow, he has played two amazing rounds of golf. He made it look effortless today. I think his longest par putt was 3 feet.
Rory is my current favorite among the young guns, but Spieth is indeed looking extremely impressive these days. I agree with you on Sergio. I really don’t like him. But, I just love watching good golf, you know the kind that makes your hair stand up on end. I usually don’t really dial into watching closely until the Saturday and Sunday rounds of the Masters. I’d still like to see Tiger put in a good showing, but have given up on the idea that he’ll truly make any sort of significant comeback.
We schedule major couch time during the Masters. Was a little ho hum earlier today, because my golf pool tanked…but the guys rallied in the afternoon. Loved seeing pm rallies from Phil, Tiger, Rory, et al. My Aussie cuties (Scott and Day) weren’t as stellar as I’d hoped; happy that Some of the “old guard” are still in the mix (Ernie, O’Meara).
Actually, a few of these guys are moving into “old guard” stage: Stricker, Woods, Sergio, Cabrerra, Phil, Singh. Oh my!
Bubba seems too self obsessed; Stenson was bad role model today (snapping his club over his knee), so happy he’s at the bottom.
Ben Crenshaw: true gentleman. Very touching at the 18th, especially with his long term (39 years!) caddie. Class acts.
Gotta love that in an interview, Speith was asked about golfing with “Ben”…to which Speith replied, " Do you mean Mr. Crenshaw?" This kid will go far and not only in the golf world…
For the weekend, I’m seeing Justin and Dustin giving Speith a run for the money…but hoping the kid prevails. A great story for the ages. On top Sunday afternoon, I just hope the weather cooperates and an American flag is on top of the leaderboard!
edited to add that I will miss my all time favorite Fred Couples this weekend…another class act.
I think Spieth will finish with a 68-70 for 20 under par and run away. But, he could also go 66-68. He played flawless golf today. Tap in pars make for an easy day at the office in the Masters. DJ has the best shot of going low tomorrow.
I dislike Sergio, but he’s entertaining to watch because you know he’s always going to have an epic meltdown. Should be fun to watch the good buddies (not), Sergio and Tiger paired together. Sergio should go ahead and book sessions with his sport psychologist now…
I can’t watch Adam Scott with his hideous long putter. I have to look away when he’s on the green. Thank god this is the last Masters for that. Never should have been legal.
I’m glad to see Tiger playing well. It’s been a real privilege to watch his career. I don’t think he’s done, by any means, but he’s done dominating. His Achilles Heel for years has been the inability to drive the ball in the fairway.
Been watching also. Rooting for Jordan (like a upcoming american golfer). Also I personally like Rory and of course Phil as he is never boring!
Should be fun, but hoping for someone to make a run so that Jordan doesn’t run away with this thing. It’s always better when there are more than one competing for the win.
Jordan is playing beautifully so far and I hope he continues today and tomorrow. He seems like an amazing young man and it’s nice to see someone who is handling the pressure so well at such a young age. I’m happy to see Tiger playing better than many of the pundits expected, especially Brandel Chamblee who takes such great pleasure in being nasty with his comments.
I like Charley Hoffman and Justin Rose so here’s to them continuing to play well this weekend. Not a fan of Bubba at all, which according to the survey someone took of current tour players, puts me with them!
The course looks beautiful and I always enjoy that part of the experience. Interestingly, much of it looks more beautiful on tv than it does if you’re actually there.
Pulling for Ernie Els. He missed a chance yesterday to take a few more strokes off his score.
Players will have to attack the course to challenge Jordan. I would be happy to see him win.
Seen too many videos of Bubba blaming others for his poor play. Not a fan. Tiger, Sergio, Phil, Rory …not a fan.
Going to the Masters is on my very short bucket list. Husband went last year, lucky dog. Been to a few US Opens which were a great deal of fun. Senior PGA tournaments are fun too.
ID-
Hope the weather clears. There were some nasty storms last night.
DH used to get free passes (I am guessing to the practice rounds, but not sure) and would give them away!!
One of my favorite times of the year! We lived in Augusta for many years and went to the tournament often thanks to DH’s media connections. After we moved, we actually got badges when they went to the waiting list during 1999 or 2000. It was like winning the lottery
We attended a practice round 2 years ago…AWESOME! We saw a very nice interview with Ben Crenshaw this morning. What a wonderful champion and man. Jordan Spieth seems like such a good kid. I hope time will show that he is the real deal, on AND off the course. He will be great for golf.
Jordan and Ben both golfed for UT! Made me nostalgic, because Ben is 11 years older than I am, and I always looked up to him when I was a kid in Austin.
It’s always remarkable how quickly the pressure of leading the Masters can give quick tug on the collar. It will be interesting to see his mini-meltdown on 17 and 18 today helps him when the collar starts getting tight tomorrow.
The thing he has in his favor is that he played in the final twosome, tied for the lead starting on Sunday in his first Masters last year. He was two ahead standing on the 8th tee, but Bubba beat him. Nevertheless, he shot even par and handled the situation pretty well for a kid, first time on a big stage.
I’d love to see him go out tomorrow, shoot 68, and slam the door closed on the field.
Is this a great country or what? Masters golf all afternoon and Jack White concert streaming live on the Coachella webcast, just after midnight (Eastern time) tonight.
yes, Idad, great country…Masters golf slipped right into the Frozen Four NCAA hockey championship game, featuring # 3 ranked Boston U vs. out of nowhere Providence. Great game, except it was truly difficult to see a game end on an unearned goal. Feel so sorry for BU’s goalie.
Masters: Did not think Phil would rally like he did, nor Tiger for that matter. Should be an exciting day tomorrow. Still hoping the Kid will pull it out…
