Does anybody think that Joel and Julia knew Victor was going to be an older kid? Like maybe the social worker might have told Joel on the phone? It just seems so improbable that they could have been so calm, cool and collected when he got out of the van if they didn’t know. Wouldn’t there at least been some sort of “look” pass between them if it was a total surprise/shock?

I’m sure they knew. I was just shocked. :)

Watched the show last night. Was surprised that I kind of liked it
Watched it with S and he so didn’t want to watch the scenes with Drew and Amy
I liked how they showed it - although the scene with them and Sarah after was really awkward!

Was a little surprised to see Joel and Julia get a child so quickly - thought it was unrealistic to say the least. But it was better when I saw the child was older …they took it so calm that I have to believe they knew he was an older child…

The scene with Drew and Amy was handled sensitively, but I find it very unrealistic that a kid who was so extremely shy around girls just a few short months ago and is only now getting comfortable having a first girlfriend is ready to hop into bed with her up in his room in the middle of a party with family members only steps away.

I thought it was kinda cute that he didn’t take off his socks.

PackMom - we commented on that as well !!

I found the Drew/Amy storyline more believeable than most of the others (I DO like the show, but was disappointed in the last couple of episodes). I couldn’t imagine Jasmine doing such a complete 180 without some sort of “trial” first, for example. But the one I REALLY don’t get is the Amber/Bob Little story line. I don’t see anything about him that would be appealing to a young girl! They want to present Amber as a bright girl, but then everything she does is so flighty, that we have no evidence that she is even as mature as the average high school junior. So I just don’t see the attraction in either direction.
But I still hope it does get renewed, because I love the interactions with Max, and a lot of the volatile family get together scenes!

I liked the part where Max asked if his dad and uncle were going to get “consequences” from Zeke.

I guess I don’t see it as a 180 at all–I’ve never gotten the sense that she succeeded in detaching herself emotionally from Crosby. And I think the whole experience of sharing custody of Jabbar has been exactly the kind of “trial” you’re talking about. One of the things she’s discovered about him, which I think she was forgivably doubtful of in the early aftermath of the infidelity, is that he is actually a tenaciously loyal guy. Childish he is, and perhaps always will be; fickle he isn’t.

I definitely liked the episode. I don’t like the choices Sarah makes and don’t see what he would see in her. I think the Drew/Amy storyline was believable. I think that junior year in high school is actually when a lot of kids, especially in relationships, do “take that step”. I think that Jasmine thought Dr. Joe was perfect in every way, but deep down she was in love with very imperfect Crosby and finally admitted it. I think Jabar is very cute, but not a very good actor. It makes sense to me that Amber would go for Bob Little. He is basically a father figure for a girl who didn’t have a good one. Of course the show isn’t perfect but I really enjoy it and I really hope they renew it.

So Zoe went off with the baby in her mom’s white SUV. The new kid arrives in a black SUV…a bit eery. I wondered if there was any intended symbolism there.

I’m not surprised in the least that Jasmine finally admitted to herself and Crosby that she was still in love with him. For one thing, I think that she became so used to Crosby mooning over her, and showing his jealousy of Dr. Joe, that she thought he’d forever be hers on some level. Once she saw that he was beginning to move on with the cute and soulful cellist, she realized that she might lose the option of taking back up with the man she truly loved. She must have realized that it was only her pride and stubbornness that had kept her from forgiving him and forging ahead with their life together as a family.

We’re going to miss having Parenthood episodes.

Any other recommendations? DH and I are surprisingly enjoying SMASH (sort of an adult version of Glee, which he won’t watch). But we are caught up with the On Demand episodes and need a new show. Our USA favorites (White Collar, Royal Pains) ended too.

Loving “Rescue Me” originally on FX, now on Netflix. What a great series! About the lives of firefighters post-9/11. Fascinating characters. It was on for 6 seasons but i don’t remember even hearing of it when it was on. Have also loved on Netflix: Nip/Tuck and Friday Night Lights.

If you are looking for anything similar to Parenthood on TV now you won’t be finding anything. If you have access to Netflix you should check out Katim’s previous series, Friday Night Lights. It is an amazing ensemble drama. Beautifully shot, extremely well written characters, and something completely different than what is on now.

I’ve been wondering when someone would mention SMASH. I thought about starting a thread about this show, but I don’t tend to start threads, just participate in the ones already on a roll.
I love SMASH!

^There is a thread about SMASH. It is on the Musical Theater Forum.

When will we hear whether Parenthood is renewed???
Any chance of a sequel to FNL??

I must be the only person around who didn’t like FNL. The filming style made me dizzy for one thing.

Wow, that would explain it, then. I’ve never had any reason whatsoever to venture into the Musical Theater Forum. My Kid was a science geek.

I was SO happy my friend convinced me to try Friday Night Lights!
I love baseball and have NEVER watched/attended a football game so I was sure I would be bored completely by FNL. Boy was I wrong about that.

Great writing and characters. Soooo very sad that it ended.
