Anyone watch Parenthood, the tv show?

I agree with the above post that they always seem to go overboard and do something unrealistic when the stories they have are so good there is no need to remind me that it is fiction by doing something silly.

DH & I coached softball, we had 7 & 8 year olds as well as 9 & 10 year olds. I have never seen such a succession in ridiculous errors as what gave him the home run. Not in a team with which they had a close game. T ball, yes, or a really bad team that never had a chance, yes. But usually there are only one or maybe two players who are really new to the concept and could make those sad errors.

I think what bugs me about the over the top silly stuff is that I enjoy caring about the Braverman clan and don’t want to be reminded that it is just TV.

Yes, someone, My H coached Little League for many years so have been to tons of games. Have never seen that many errors in one game with kids that age . The whole scene was goofy and unrealistic but it IS TV and they certainly did need to have SOMETHING good happen in that episode.

somemom, you made me laugh so hard! When ds and I were watching, at the commercial, he said, “I can’t believe the number of errors they made!” I said, “I have definitely seen those many errors off one hit (and I have).” And he said, “Not on any team that I was on!” And that’s true. He was on amazingly well-coached teams.

The score was 4-1, so, if the bases were loaded then Victor was the winning run. A definite Hollywood moment. I’m OK with that.

I agree that, as long as he got a hit, I didn’t much care what happened. But the pic of him rounding third with all the clan cheering in the background was great.

Regarding the question on how Haddie got home, I said to me wife immediately when Haddie walked in the door, “where did she get the money?”. I then concocted a scenario where she filled in her “new buds” (as Kristina called them) at Cornell about the family drama taking place, and they took it upon themselves to pass the hat.

We don’t, but a lot of people give their kids a credit card when they go off to college. That’s how I figure she paid for it.

If you’ve had a kid go to college across the country, you have to suspend reality on the Haddie Returns scene. But if you have already gotten through the Baseball Hall of Fame Errors scene, what’s a cross-country jaunt at the last moment? I liked that she showed up. And I think, even if she paid a lot for the ticket, she did it for a good reason.

Currently, my son is on my credit card because he was under 18 when he left and could not have a card in his name. And because, like Haddie, he needed to travel with layovers, and because you need a credit card if you get stranded while traveling (which has happened in our family) to stay in a hotel, I put him on our card. I’ll probably change it at winter break. The point is, some kids are on their parents’ card so the credit limit is higher.

My bet would have been that Grandma Bedelia bought the ticket but she seemed just as shocked as everyone else to hear the news.

Didn’t Adam shove a huge wad of cash into Haddie’s hands when she left? I may be thinking of another show, but I seem to remember this.

She earned it taking the SAT for her wealthy friends. I love it when shows rip from the headlines.

When my DD went 1500 miles away to school she did have our credit card and she still did not come home for Thanksgiving, too expensive. That is mainly because she left ticket buying until too late, despite many timely mom reminders. The object lesson was not too horrid, we had family in the area she went to school so just had her stay there, as a matter of fact I was probably more sad than she was.

I, too, thought about the cost of the flight for Haddie, but I do know lots of people whose kids traveled home often, for whom price seemed no big deal or who had miles, so I could handle that better than the little league one.

I remember a soccer match with bad reffing when I Dad merely pointed out the issues, was not over the top, did not go on the field etc., and I thought the coach was going to call the cops. In Berkeley, I am surprised Zeke was not tased for critiquing the coach.

I thought of lots of things when I saw Haddie-how’d she pay for the flight? how’s she going to make up her work? Is she even going to want to go back to Cornell? If she doesn’t go back, have they lost all their money for the semester? Geez, my head was spinning over a TV show. Between that and the Little League thing, I was very confused!

…and I sit in front of the idiot box and question nothing–not the little league scene, not the cost of the flight home, not the timing of the flight, not the arrival to the restaurant…nothing. I love this show! (And I must stop reading this thread!!!)

Cartera, LOL! You almost made me spit out my Coke!

Vitrac, I’m with you! I watch this show for escapism. And, no, I won’t stop reading this thread.

Well, Haddie’s trip coincided with fall break! So no worries about missed school work. Also, I assumed it was a weekend since the entire clan was able to attend the baseball game. Although why Julia was called in on a Saturday was unclear.

Oh,I missed that about it being fall break. Good to know. I wouldn’t want her to miss her work!

She was called in by the firm’s partners to discuss her missing a filing deadline. Many things about the scene were pretty unrealistic but not because she was called in on a Saturday.

I didn’t catch that it was fall break. When was that mentioned?

One other thing that I did really like was the restaurant scene just before Haddie came through the door. Christina was looking around at everyone talking to each other, and smiling. Very touching.

Late to this discussion, but I figured the Jason Ritter character was on his way out when they had the big to-do about non-spouses of siblings in the annual family portrait. I figured it would come up later that they would regret having him in the picture.

As I suspected I lost interest after the second show this season. I’m reading the threads but it’s not inspiring me to watch again. It would be interesting to look up the viewer number for this year’s episodes compared to last year.
