Loved the episode. Funny how DOCTOR NOT FOR PROFIT suddenly is kinda desirable!!!

Good episode. Here are some thoughts. Julia really blew it by not telling Joel about the kiss. Drew’s Berkeley "buddy " was in usual form… She has issues! Why does Sarah’s doctor friend live in that building? And when is the patriarch (forgot his name- Gus?) going to fly to Italy and “reclaim” Camille?

Zeke–and yeah, why is Dr HunkaHunka living in that crummy building?

Love the show. Last night was just OK. I don’t really enjoy the Julia/Joel characters or their storyline so any episode that features them sorta loses me. I had a feeling that Hank was gonna discover his own autistic behaviors at some point. I really like the connection between him and Max. There’s something off with the Sarah/new guy thing. Why would a prominent doctor and the the ED of a huge international organization be living in a dumpy apartment without heat and functional plumbing? I liked Jason Ritter better.

Same thought on the doctor in the dumpy building… also wondering about the casual attitude toward changing of flight plans. (An extra week in Italy? Missed flight back to Boston? No biggy.)

And who believes that Sarah could ever fit into one of Jasmine’s dresses? :D

I watched even though I swore I was done with this show. Thankfully, there were only a few minutes of Monica Potter’s nails on a chalkboard voice or I would have turned it off. The focus on her last season cured me of the show. I liked Max and Hank’s relationship and am hoping the parents don’t get jealous if Max likes Hank better. The Drew story line belongs in a teen stalker/slasher movie. Zeek needs to get on a plane to Italy. I’m thinking wife will just stay there, maybe returning for the season/series finale. Had Julia used “I” incorrectly one more time as the object of a preposition, I would have screamed. I heard at least two instances. She’s supposed to be an educated woman - no excuse. Still no love for Sarah and her mugging. Something may be with up with the doc, but he can do better.

I thought Joel’s take on Julia’s denial of a relationship with what’s his name was spot on. Even though he wanted to believe her, something told him she wasn’t being 100% truthful.

I also like that Zeek has a friend now, and I liked the very real line about how women of her age often talk more about physcial ailments than wanting to do something adventurous and how Zeek should have gone with her.

It bothered me when Julia said “Joel and I” also. She’s a lawyer for goodness sake. I did like the scenes with Hank and Max.

I find Christina irritating also. I also wonder why they rarely mention Hattie. Most parents think about their college daughters occasionally.

LOL re Sarah in Jasmine’s dress…the thought did cross my mind
Yeah, really like that’s going to fit :p

I think Dr. Dreamy is living in the crummy building because he spends all of his money on his charity. I have/had 2 neighbors who live in low income housing because they run small charities and are paid low salaries. (I actually have rather mixed feelings about that, since they take that low income housing away from less educated folk who don’t have options.) It’s also possible that he spends a fair amount of time traveling and isn’t there all that often, so feels no need to have a nicer space.

I find Drew’s “friends with benefits” downright creepy. I keep thinking she’s going to cry rape or. …or say she’s pregnant and that he’s the father or…well, do something awful. She seems unbalanced.

And, yes, Zeke needs to get on the plane and go to Italy.

The Julia/Joel story line is painful…but it’s so real. Remember when Adam’s assistant came on to him? Interesting that he brought it up to Julia…and he was right in telling her she should tell Joel.

Sounds like I’m in the minority…Parenthood isn’t as good as it used to be but I’m still a loyal fan and enjoy watching. Loved the Hank/Max storyline…when Max flipped out, initially I thought Hank was going to say he was done and Max wasn’t welcome at his shop any longer so when the story went the way it did, I was pleasantly surprised and it made me like Hank more.

I too assumed Dr. Dreamy lives where he lives since he heads up a NFP with a (presumably) lower salary and/or he puts his disposable income back into the charity.

Re: Julia…yes, there’s something about her I’ve never really liked but I don’t necessarily think confessing that there’s been one kiss when things aren’t good between you and your h is always best. It seemed to me that that kiss was just what she needed to remind her that she’d started down a bad path and it was time to get her priorities straight and work on her marriage. Hearing Julia speak incorrectly (“Joel and I”) was equally painful to me as hearing Christina’s voice which I liken to nails on a chalkboard.

Always liked Drew’s high school girlfriend and felt badly for him when she couldn’t deal with what had happened and pretty much disappeared from his life. I think the ‘friend with benefits’ is a freshman trying to find her way (not very maturely) and acted in a way I can see some 18 year old/first time away from home/I’m independent and control my own destiny acting. Drew wanted a relationship and she said no. Then she didn’t like it when she saw old girlfriend show up.

Not sure if Zeek (Zeke?) needs to go to Italy (what’s he going to do while she’s painting/looking at paintings/talking about painting??) but he should be prepared to welcome her back with open arms and ready with a proactive, thoughtful discussion about how they can meet both their needs in the future.

I had the same thought that Sarah wouldn’t fit in Jasmine’s dresses! lol

I appreciate this thread :)

Definitely cute doctor non-profit guy seems too good to be true. Camille never asked Zeke to go with her to Italy, I kind of think she doesn’t want him there. With the way Joel has been acting I probably would not have told him either.

Once again, thanks to kathiep, I downloaded the ap and watched it online. Only two small commercial breaks, much less than network TV.

Well, the dress Sarah chose was never really shown.

It’s the one she wore to the event…at least that’s what I saw.

We watched the new episode on Comcast tonight. I liked it. The Hank/Max story is touching.

I watched the show last night, but only peripherally. I think of Camille’s absence is just a break for her. The way it’s written, she can come back to the show whenever they “need” her. If it was real life, I think Zeke should go to Italy, at least for a short while.

I can’t stand how the writers portray Max as the “angry kid with Asperger’s”. The character is such an incredibly spoiled kid it drives me crazy. Skip the focus on the Asperger’s, will ya, and pay attention to his rude behavior. Oops. It’s not real life, because IRL his mother would be mortified – Asperger’s or not – if her kid threw a fit and shouted as he does. Can that character ever be just Max; not Max-the-kid-with-Asperger’s? I mean, IRL, one doesn’t so constantly focus on a label; why do they?

I watch the show because I keep hoping for an improvement, but I can’t stand the writing or how the characters talk and behave. They all seem totally awkward. There’s way too much uncomfortable pauses when they talk. And every single character can’t seem to say anything without a lot of “hummms”, “ahhhs”, and sideways glances without much reason other than to simply fill the silence. I especially dislike Sarah’s character. She really does a terrible job of seeming real.

My thought is that maybe Dr. owns the apartment building and moved in to keep eye on new super/get the place back in good order? From they way he was working the event I don’t think he’s without money and resources.

Liked the Max/Hank resolution. I didn’t care for the entire Joel/Julia scenario. Joel keeps walking away and expecting the worst. Maybe he’s just done.

limabeans – I agree with you. I also feel that Max is often presented as a caricature of Asperger’s rather than a person who is capable of growth and change over the years. Plus I found it implausible that Hank would have run after him when Max ran out - a simple phone call to Max’s parents expressing concern would have sufficed, and the whole point of the scene was that Hank was tied up with his other work.

So…any comments on last night?

I’ve read that there is a physician who is an expert on Asperger’s who is a consultant for every episode involving Max. And, of course, the creators’ son is an Aspie. I know very little about being an Aspie, but I thought last night story line about Max offending his only friend was believable.

So was the Hank story line. It was interesting that Hank got upset about Sarah getting the job–and didn’t realize that if it hadn’t been Sarah it would have been someone else.

The Joel/Julia story line is just painful to me…probably because I’m divorced myself. Joel seems to want out–and I’m really not sure why.
