And Sarah is in the middle of a huge assignment, a career-making job for her.

I don’t think Sarah screwed up, I think it was the right move not to go and not to lose herself in yet another relationship, even though the guy seems perfect. Now I do think that Julia screwed up. I understand that she must be profoundly lonely, but she needs to invest everything in her marriage and stay away from that guy!

She finally finds someone appropriate for her and is about to blow it. And she could have met her deadline. WTH is she doing all day???

And Hank is right in that this is her first major professional job and if she brings it in late it IS going to affect her reputation. But I don’t quite “get” how Sarah also had to tell Dreamy Doc that it was over between them. I think she could say I can’t afford to do this for professional reasons WITHOUT announcing it’s over.

Exactly, jonri. Just because she doesn’t go on the trip doesn’t mean she has to not date the doctor. She drives me nuts.

And, yes, Julia is flirting with disaster. And Drew needs to stay far away from Natalie.

I really cringed when Crosby confronted his mom. He’s old enough to know better!

I think it is a matter of her not being “ready” for Mr. Right, and she needs to find out who she is before she can get into a relationship. Which means maybe he is Mr. Right, but not right now.

Yes, but when is she going to figure it out? On the show, she’s gone through two men she’s trying to “save” (Seth and Hank) and couldn’t handle the nice guy who she first hooked up with knowing her dd was in love with him. Who else am I forgetting? Here’s a nice, successful, age-appropriate guy, and she’s using her work as an excuse to not be with him. I really think her career and this guy can co-exist. How old is she supposed to be anyway? I’m just growing tired of rooting for her.

Everyone was making poor decisions in that episode! Crosby, Sarah, Julia, Drew, Amber. Good grief. And, seriously, if Sarah doesn’t know who she is, well into her 40s, she’s never going to know.

I guess we’re supposed to see that Sarah likes Hank really? I just don’t “feel” the chemistry there myself.
And Lord Almighty, Crosby should be ashamed!
Julia is an idiot. She has just rolled over and played dead through this whole separation.

Painful episode. Sydney was obnoxious (I know, I know, it’s hard when parents separate but I found her annoying before too), Drew’s a good guy but that hair is distracting and his roommate did him no favors…Amber reverted and was acting like an adolescent, Crosby sounded like a sulky, indulgent 15 year old! Julia really needs to stay away from green team guy although I did think her apology was appropriate after she inappropriately blamed him but then she needed to walk away. Sarah is just confusing…I could make a case for going for one week as she made it sound like she could have met her work deadline or, even if she had second thoughts about jumping in so quickly with cute doctor, she could have passed on the trip and still dated him when she got home. Why break it off completely?

How did you interpret Camille’s comment at the end of the episode that Crosby and family were welcome as long as they wanted? I will be disappointed if Camille decides that her interests should continue to come last to everyone else in her family. Now, if one of the kids buys the house, they take out an equity line or somehow come up with some other way to keep the house, that’s fine but if she maintains the status quo, well, no wonder Sydney acts the way she acts–tantrums work in that family!

When Julia went to Ed’s door at the end of the episode, I was yelling at the TV. “Don’t do it, Julia!” I can’t understand why she is not fighting for her marriage with Joel. Perhaps she will next week, as the previews suggested.

When Julia apologized at Ed’s door I told my dh, “And she couldn’t have done that over the phone?”

I had a thought. Maybe Adam and Kristina will buy the family home and use it for their Charter School.

About their Charter School - why was Kristina emphasizing it would not be limited to wealthy families? Aren’t charter schools by definition tuition-free and funded by taxes?

^^The whole charter school storyline is ridiculous to me. Not that this show is devoid of silly storylines but this one may take the cake. And is no one working on Parenthood anymore? It seems like in the past few episodes, no one ever goes to work.

I like that idea, tx5.

Yeah, daisy, good point. Unless things are done differently in California.

Isn’t Jasmine a teacher? Maybe just a dance teacher. I was thinking she and Crosby could live there and she could help run it.

No, things are not done differently in California. A “charter school” is a public school, not private… But it’s not something that any person or couple can just set up – they would need to get others in their community to sign a petition. They are simply contemplating setting up their own private school – which of course is their right and is not subject to any special barriers – so hiring teachers and administrators would be a logical first step. But it wouldn’t be called a “charter” – it would be a private school, with private tuition, and if they wanted to make it available to families of limited means, then their first step would probably be to set it up as a nonprofit.

But I’ve commented before, the Parenthood universe doesn’t seem to be grounded in any sort of reality that I know when it comes to issues like education and finances. It’s pretty much a prime time soap opera.

I loved how Zeke interacted with Joel on last night’s episode.

It made for good family drama, but I have a hard time believing that Kristina would be so defensive about Max that she wouldn’t even listen to Sarah’s version of Max’s melt down. I guess it set things up for Zeke & Camille to be the family anchors in this episode and the kids all be kind of a hot mess (at least at the baby dinner).
