I was sure that this was setting up a scenario where Haddie and Amber would end up attending the local CC together. But with Amber’s reaction, that seems less likely.

I thought the “Julia” actress was great too. Crosby seems like such a basketcase. It will be interesting to see what kind of turn the Haddie/Alex relationship takes now. Surely Haddie is smart enough to know that if she tells her Mom, it’s all over with her and Alex.
Felt sorry for Amber and the prom debacle. Then I felt sorry for Lauren Graham when Amber came home from the prom and blew out all of her hurt, frustration and anger on her Mom, basically telling LG to butt out of her life. That’s about as real as it gets.

^^^ That was hard, but it was a powerful and so-true scene. Sarah had nothing to do with Amber’s decision to go to prom and was surprised by the news, but in Amber’s mind when it all went to hell it was all her mother’s fault. Seemed like a scenario that could play out in thousands of homes.

Next week’s episode looks baaad for Amber. Ugh. What a downer storyline!

Haddie seems so sneaky to me - do not like her vibe at all. I don’t really like the actress who plays her either! She needs a different haircut or something. Okay, enough snark… but I do think the show’s stylists could make her look a lot cuter. Does anyone think teen pregnancy is in the works? Hmmm…

I love Julia and Joel - their scenes are so emotional. Erika Christensen is a great actress. Their daughter is precious!

Crosby is still a moron. Buying that house gives Home Depot (one of the show’s sponsors) the opportunity to do some major advertising though. Give it a few episodes and a few sibling shopping trips, and the place is going to look fabulous! ; -)

Throughout the whole episode, I kept wondering where Max and Amber’s brother were…

ARGH. How awful for Haddie’s parents.

They heard it on the phone? You gotta be kiddin’ me! Never would have seen that coming.
So far they are acting calm. Maybe they’re in shock. I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Spoiler alert -
Whoa, this is a pretty intense episode. Teen age sex broadcast through a butt phone call and illegal drugs. Makes me very glad from my self-proclaimed geeky son.

I hate when the teaser they show all week happens in the last few minutes of the show. Dad is going to put things in perspective after the car crash and have a touchy feely moment with Haddie - next week.

edited to add - or this week.

OMG! I pray that’s the mom’s!

That’s my bet.

kathiep…my friend at work got a call from her (16 yr.) S at work today except all she could hear was him talking and laughing w/ noise in the background. He was at school. She soon received a text that said “Butt Dial”.

catera45, I’m with you…been seeing the ads for the show all week. Can’t believe they left us hanging.

wow can’t believe I missed the beginning of the episode but it was good but hate the closing scene of car accident, going to give me nightmares.

Is it unrealistic that Amber has gone off the deep end so quickly?

I, too, will have nightmares.

Okay, I’ve been playing catch-up.

Yikes about how Amber is handling the upsets. First her dad walks out of her life, then a rejection, then teenage s*x, then pot + drinking, now car accident. The way it looked, with everyone together and crying seemed as if Amber died. Then again, it’s the season finale and the writers may want to leave what really happened as a cliff hanger (again!).

I finally liked (or felt sorry for) Crosby when he said this is the “Hail Mary pass”.

And Julia? She looks SO MUCH like my SIL I have trouble seeing past that. She’s so balanced, (except she allowed her 6yo to make decisions about diet?) It’s easy to admire her.

What do you think about Sarah and her play? A first play getting such promotion is a too unreal, but for sure she’s going to have an affair with the producer.

The play thing is totally unrealistic.

I predict Christina will be pregnant… the teenage pregnancy storyline has been done so many times!

The whole thing with Amber is just awful.

Too much melodrama. I have a horrible feeling that the shark is being jumped right before my eyes.

Next week is the season finale???

I found myself disliking Crosby even more tonight and yelling at Jasmine to run far. far away!

ETA: JHS, that’s what my 16yo said.

Amber was a troubled child before they made the move … we didn’t ever get too much info on that but i think she made a fresh start once they moved and now the pressure has gotten to her … like everything on this show - everything is speeded up, though.

A few questions and thoughts: Why would Kristina have the talk with Haddie and not take her to a doctor to get on the pill? Why would someone as supposedly informed as she is assume that a condom is enough? How old is Haddie? I assumed she was a senior if she was going to prom, but there has been no talk of college and last night Adam said she was 16. Why can’t Amber do what thousands of California kids do and go to community college? Why do she and her mother assume that there are no educational options for her at this point? She could work and go to school and make good use of her time. The entire plot with the play strikes me as farfetched as does Crosby’s house. It was obvious to me (and I saw no previews) from the second we saw those kids in the car that a bad accident was coming. Any time characters are in a car during the last five minutes of a show, it’s obvious. Also, it was obvious that Adam would reach out to Haddie by the end of the episode. In addition, I think after all the upset about Alex in the beginning, that they would be more upset with him given the age difference, etc.

I think the past few episodes have been very disappointing on many fronts. The writing has deteriorated, which is a shame because the show, even with its flaws, has been very good until recently. mimk, I agree with many of the items you’ve listed. The talk between Haddie and Mom was a good example of what was unrealistic, and what was glaringly lacking.
