@twinsmama So… when I first filled out the inquiry form, it was the spring of eighth grade, so they had me in the system as applying for ninth. My interviewer asked me about it and I cleared it up, but I also said that I’d be cool with repeating. I haven’t asked why; it could just be a mistake and they think I’m in eighth grade.
I think it’s harder to get FA for 10th grade, from what I’ve heard.
I think taking first year english in BS might be a good idea anyway. I think the writing required in BS is probably a lot more extensive and better than in other schools (especially public) so you’d want to get all that in so you could do well the other years!
I do want to take freshman English, but I just wanna say that my teacher is intense when it comes to writing. We had a mini essay today and had to hand-write MLA. I love writing.
To circle back to OP’s question, you REALLY need to think hard about entering as a new student in 10th grade. Lots of kids do it, but lots more than what you might suspect by reading these boards can struggle with it socially, especially initially. Really dig deep and understand what the school does for integrating new 10th graders. In my experience with a DC, “we have lots of grade/form events” and “teachers, advisors and adults are watching really carefully to make sure no one is slipping through the cracks” sound nice, but can vary considerably in practice and effectivness. You should also really understand the population of the kids who go to whatever school you are thinking of. Others have suggested on these boards visiting in the “off season”, going to games, arts events, etc. Good advice. The place where people seem nice on revisit day might have a different feel come September. Good luck!
There are usually more tests in 10th grade, so 9th grade is definitely a lot easier to catch up. It might be a little harder to make new friends, but you’ll get more friends sooner.
