Applying to the College Class of 2017 (Starting College in the Fall of 2013)

@ahtesham,

My first choice was the Econ program, and I think NUS offers scholarships to only Science and Tech majors as incoming freshman.

By the way, when you applied for financial aid, did you complete seperate forms for NUS study loans etc because I think we have to fill them after we get out package :/

Picerulz,

Apart from 5 A*s in A Levels, what are your stats?

@junaid123 Oh i see! Nope, i didn’t filled a seperate financial aid application

@ahtesham
Haan I know NUS is ranked 5th for Mech Engg. But I just feel CMU’s experience would be better. Also CMU (pittsburgh) is ranked no 1 for graduate CS, and 2nd or third for Bachelors CS. CMU Qatar gives the same degree, and the quality of edu should be very close if not the same. I think I should just decide between Mech Engg and CS and then decide. Also the scholarship at NUS also restricts you to working in Singapore (just like Qatar foundation’s loan restricts you to Qatar). So there’s just a difference of wording between the two, I think

started applications in feb so could only apply to qatar, nus and hku.

@junaid
Sat 1 2070, sat 2 800 phy & math II
just average ECs.
I decided to apply to universities just January this year (didnt want to continue medicine)

Picerulz, That’s great. I hope I get into my first choice because I have similar stats.

How do you plan to fund your education in Singapore? I’ve heard that NUS makes us take quite a lot of loans, in addition to the MOE Tuition Grant.

By the way, when do we get our aid packages from QF?

@picerulz amazing scores :D

@junaid

I’m looking into methods of financing in NUS.

I think QF will take 4-6 weeks.

@ahtesham
thanks!

@junaid
whats ur first choice btw?

@picarulz when is the deadline for accepting offer of NUS and how much is deposit :confused:

Dunno abt deposit but deadline is 6 may.

Got my I20 form today. The sad part, however, is that my name had a printing error on the form. Wowww!
Requested a new one. Gonna get it by the end of this week or maybe next Monday.

@thecricketfreak wow! That was fast :o

Hi guys, I am from Karachi. I got into CS CMU-Q, among others, obviously applying for aid/loan. I’d have to work for 4-6 years in qatar as compensation. What to you guys think about this deal, I mean is it worth it and would it hamper my career if I put off grad school for a couple of years? And if anyone knows someone living in Qatar it’d be really nice if you could give me an overview of the life there (The salary and the food, ESP. THE FOOD!)

thanks man :slight_smile: and congrats on your acceptances.

Hi everyone. Congratulations on all the acceptances!

I really really need some advice. Hope you people can help.

Okay so I applied to a bunch of colleges but I either got rejected or didn’t get enough aid. I kinda got paranoid when the rejections started rolling in so, just in case, I applied to this college with a very late deadline, Colby-Sawyer. Now they’ve accepted me with a lot of scholarship and aid, which covers 100% tuition and some room/board cost. So it’s pretty affordable.

The thing is, the college is really really average - maybe even below average (I know people who got in with 1600 SATs). I can afford it but I cannot figure out if it will be worth it to attend a college that isn’t notable in any way. I never really ever thought of ending up here.

Should I take up the offer or would it be better to stick to a local university (probably NUST or LSE)?

@sheza72 Congratulations on your acceptance of Colby-Sawyer. I think if you can afford you should go. Colby-Sawyer is not as good as any Ivy but still its an reputable university in USA and as far as LSE and NUST are concerned they are completely academic oriented while limiting the focus on Extra curricular and research at Undergraduate level. Maybe you can try getting in an Ivy in your Graduate study which would be much difficult if you stay in Pakistan. I believe if you can afford you must go. Its you who matter in the University and what have you done not the University you are coming from :smiley: Rest is your choice… Good Luck

Shinigami, congrats! Will you be going to cmuq if you get the aid? I’ve applied for aid too, and accepted at the CS prog there.

Heard any good things abt it? or where their cs grads end up working in Qatar? Thanks.

People who have been accepted to US uni’s in Qatar,

Do you plan to go to Qatar (assuming you get a decent financial aid package)? Let’s get a conversation started where discuss the pros and cons of US uni’s in Qatar?

Hey guys,

Need some help. Can I carry attested score reports of SAT and TOEFL when I go for F1 visa interview? I will get them attested from my school. I didn’t order the paper reports earlier.
