hi, so I’m an international student (from a non-feeder school). I’m planning to apply to UWCs and am curious to know whether they’re really considered as feeder schools or not?
Any potential advantage will barely make a blip against the huge disadvantage of being international. And the international disadvantage rises exponentially if you’re from an extremely overrepresented country like PRC, ROK, or India
Could some UWC’s be considered feeders? Sure - in a sense - for an otherwise exceptional applicant
I don’t have any personal experience with it, but at the colleges that my children attend, there are dozens and dozens of international UWC grads on Davis Scholarships. https://www.davisuwcscholars.org/ I would think the opportunity for such generous funding would make UWC well worth pursuing.
Feeder, not really. But few are in the true sense any more.
But for an international student, my sense is that UWC is extremely helpful. To colleges at many levels of selectivity, UWC is a know quantity. They understand what you have accomplished, what the grades mean, etc. The college counseling is also good and can help direct you to success. The Davis scholarships are meaningful.
So yes, this could be totally worthwhile.
