I think the red diamond-patterned wall provides a harmonious background and ties the entire pictorial surface into a rich canvas. William is artfully placed in front of the dark burgundy velvet drapery so his red jacket does indeed pop, while the spacial majority of white-frocked figures creates a bright contrast.

The queen’s yellow outfit ties in with the golds, and Camilla and Carole Middleton’s grey and pale blue blend in nicely.

As the historical colors of the British Empire (England anyway) have been red and white, the motif is also highly patriotic.

(Just checked–it was the throne room, so it had to be red. As a future king, any other room would have been less indicative of Charles’ and William’s future jobs.)

I heard one of the commentators say there will be another royal wedding in July. I thought he said it will be Princess Anne’s daughter. Is that correct? How big and how much pomp and pageantry will it have?

I loved the official photos.Anne’s daughter Zara is getting married in July. I’ve been thinking about another thread about grandparent’s favoritism. Wonder who the Queen’s favorite is (if there is one) and how crazy that would be for a grandmother in her position to worry about all of that!

Some of the commentary I heard was that William is quite close to the Queen. When he went to Eton, he’d lunch with her every week. Don’t know if he’s a favorite, but when a boy loses his mom, how could she not hold him in special favor?

Beatrice, who continues a tradition of comedy royalty started by her mother Sarah Ferguson, will star in the return of the Teletubbies.

She is rumoured to have seen off competition from Lady Gaga to land the coveted role after the musician insisted on appearing in the show dressed in the turned out hide of a bear.

Interesting fact: Just heard on some show I had on while cooking dinner that Dodi Fayed’s father was at the wedding. I find that really fascinating. Had the boys and Fayed gotten close while Dodi and their mom were dating?

No, that wasn’t him at the wedding, but somone else who looked like him. Katie Couric announced on air that it was him and then CBS later corrected. I read an article online about mistakes or silly things the U.S. announcers said.

Queen Elizabeth’s favorite grandchild is supposed to be Peter Phillips.

If you like to read about the royal family, there are many articles (and right now a special section on the wedding) in the Daily Mail, a British newspaper.

Lots and lots of fashion coverage in the Daily Mail articles too.

The official wedding photos are traditionally taken in that room, and it was done just after their arrival and prior to the balcony appearance. The positions were pre-rehearsed so they could be done quickly. There’s an interview with the photographer in the Daily Mail.

I agree with fauve’s comments about the official photos. They are carefully composed and the colors are balanced, and they have a painterly quality. The only thing I don’t like about them is that the people look somewhat artificial. Kate almost looks like a doll. The more candid news photos are more fun to look at, because the people look more human.

I wonder whether any official close-ups of Kate and William will be published?

One thing that struck me is how few flowers were used. Only Kate and two of the bridesmaids have bouquets, and they are small. There are no corsages. There were no huge floral arrangements in the Abbey. I did see comments to the effect that the trees were used in the Abbey instead of flowers as a “green” choice? I didn’t realize that using cut flowers was an issue - although I suppose that they are often flown in from far away. Good for Kate and William - educating us!

bookiemom - thanks for the tip about the Daily Mail. I had a “fantastic” time reading up on the latest wedding news. I can sort of understand/justify how Kate’s dress was 40,000 Euros, but they say that Pippa’s ran 20,000. It was beautiful, but my goodness that is a lot of money.

Kajon, I looked at the Daily Mail site (what a guilty pleasure!) I think their cost estimates are awfully high. I do not believe that Carole Middleton’s wedding suit cost 10,000 Euros, and I don’t believe that Kate’s shoes and flowers were 3,000 Euros. Nor do I believe that the men’s suits were 10,000 Euros. The hotel costs are anyone’s guess.

lolulu, I actually read somewhere that those forehead hats are kept on by hidden elastic bands, not by hat pins. Sounds plausible to me. Kind of like Halloween masks.

I heard Mr. Middleton got his suit from Joseph A. Bank…he couldn’t resist their Buy-one-father-of-the-Duchess-suit-get-6-free! sale. Even the Men’s Warehouse couldn’t beat that offer. I guarantee it.
