^^^^I guess I don’t understand why they would have used it in then first place, knowing it was so strongly associated with another team. I wouldn’t take any pleasure in that, but I guess that is a very minority opinion.

The Seahawks are the second youngest team to make it to the Super Bowl. Jermane Kearse came in as a free agent - not drafted. He was terrific at UW and a great Hawk, stepping in when percy Harvin was first injured. Definitely a local boy made good. My daughter met Golden Tate and Max Unger at a bar and they were as nice as can be (and the photos are pretty cute). Derrick Coleman - deaf, plays with hearing aids (phenomenal commercial for Duracell with him in it). There was a story on last night’s news about Mama Sherman and Branden (brother) sprucing up a little boy’s wheelchair. Russell Wilson is the real deal. It’s a team. Are they perfect? Probably not, but they are something special to us. No crybabies allowed.

Walking around downtown today and seeing all the people wearing jerseys, t-shirts, hats, jackets was pretty cool.

I believe they pay Texas A&M royalties on the 12th Man phrase. I live in Seattle. I know nothing about Texas A&M other than a former co-worker went to school there and texans treat football as a religion. Until they sued over the usage, I had no idea it was used elsewhere. NBD to me. So not worth getting riled up over.

It might be a surprise to some people, but you can follow professional sports without being interested in sports in college.

I was raised and went to school in Big Ten country, and moved to the Northwest. Even though I followed college football in the conferences I cared about, I had no idea of anything having to do with schools outside of them. If someone asks me in an hour what school the Seahawks licensed “12th Man” from I wouldn’t remember that it was Texas A&M.

This thread just reminded me to change my avatar (at least for the week). I hope Texas A&M doesn’t sue me, or Sesame Street for use of the number 12!

Another positive about the Seahawks…Macklemore is a big fan.

Yeah, infringe on a copyright and a tradition that dates back to the days of leather helmets, NBD. Roll eyes. (Hey where are those silly emoticons ?) If you want to know more, http://aggietraditions.tamu.edu/team/12thman.html
The entire student body stands during every game.

Meanwhile, go Hawks! I remember knowing three of the players back in my youth…one married a church friend, one was in several college classes with me, and one I met through the others.

dragonmom, is that a picture of flowers in your garden? If so, that looks exactly like a picture a friend in Seattle published of her garden.

The Seahawks’ use of the term goes back at least 30 years - in 1984 they retired the number 12 to honor their fans in the old Kingdome.

TAMU sued in 2006. Why did they wait so long? Who knows. But that’s why it is pretty much NBD - for decades TAMU didn’t seem to care.

The Seahawks settled for $100K with a $5K/year payment, according to wikipedia. Chump change.

Yeah, apparently to the folks who infringed on the tradition, it’s “NBD.”

I imagine it would suddenly matter if say, the SF 49’ers decided to make their fans the 12th man as well. Or if several other teams decided they liked the term and began to use it.

D2 visited A & M and said that was a deal killer for her. “Stand for a whole 3 hours?! No way.” Of course, that’s really not the reason she did not become an aggie, but she sticks with that story.

Back on topic, what’s a Super Bowl ticket going for?

If TAMU didn’t assert their trademark rights for decades, they are lucky they didn’t lose it. There were a few other teams they sued who did stop using it. If Seattle had chosen to fight it, rather than settle, who knows what might have happened. It would have been a lot of bad PR though, and for a token $5K/year I guess it wasn’t worth fighting.

I read an article that ticket prices are plunging, and the cheapest seats are down to $1500. Apparently, fears about the weather and the fact that both teams are so far away is pushing down demand.

Early sign of deflation!

Still pretty pricey imo.

Still pretty pricey imo.

ITA. Especially to see Red Hot Chili Peppers & Bruno Mars.
Maybe for Pearl Jam.

EK, not my garden. I took the picture at the Hyatt Lost Pines resort near Austin. Beautiful beautiful gardens and a lovely resort. Usually out of our price range…

That was busdriver that asked the garden question. Are those gerbera daisies?
People are reconfiguring their Christmas lights to be just blue & green, it is pretty cool.

Wouldn’t you love to be the fly on the wall to see Coughlin’s face if they choose the Giants? Steelers are prime candidates this yea
Based on the new rules and assuming no more coaching changes, here are the 8 teams eligible for 2014’s Hard Knocks if no one volunteers, per NFL Network’s Dan Hanzus:

Cardinals
Bills
Bears
Jaguars
Giants
Raiders
Steelers
Rams

Who you got?

I can understand exempting teams that have a new coach, they already have enough going on.

But I don’t understand why playoff teams are exempted. Not dysfunctional enough? Rosters are too set?

It would be kind of fun to see Bill Belichick’s head explode on a daily basis if he had to deal with this.

Is there any player on the Seahawks that fans DON’T love? A great TEAM got them to the Superbowl, not just one person.

“Is there any player on the Seahawks that fans DON’T love? A great TEAM got them to the Superbowl, not just one person”

I think the fans love them all, at least to my knowledge. Particularly appreciated is Wilson and Lynch, of course.

One of my favorites is the kicker, Steve Hauschka. Not only is he very reliable, but he told Carroll that he didn’t think that he could make a field goal, leading to the 4th and 7 touchdown play against the 49’ers. I read that Carroll said that kickers didn’t tell him that very often, so he paid attention.

ETA: A friend who was at the game said that everyone in the stands was yelling “NO” when they lined up to go for it.
