Ask me anything about Business at UCI - internships, clubs, majors, etc.

I’m interested in doing accounting, finance, or marketing. Which one is better suited for someone who is really good with numbers and problem solving. I was thinking I would be better at Finance or Accounting but I’m not sure.

A: If you are truly good at problem solving, have you considered the consulting route? It depends on if you like the lifestyle (tons of travel, long hours, very high celing for pay) and if you are up to the task in terms of academics (we’re talking 3.8+ GPA for a solid firm), but it’s one of the most prestigious fields out there.

If you like creativity, consider the brand management route. Thinking up strategies to develop brands is no easy task and you have to crunch numbers to back up your strategies. While I’m no math whiz, I love that stuff and is one the reasons why I’m headed into Brand in the future.

What are some possible careers in finance or accounting that a degree from UCI lead me to? Not to sound shallow or anything, but I want something that is high paying.

A: That question is pretty broad. There are ALL types of jobs. What’s good is quantitative skilled jobs are usually more specialized and demand a higher salary. Financial Advisors make a ton but are high risk. Accountants and CPA are the big 4 make enough to support a lifestyle in So Cal.
Also, If you don’t mind me asking what would be your hours and your starting salary???

A: I chose my job because my hours are extremely flexible since I work from home. It’s a 40 hour week, more or less depending on the time of year. I won’t tell you my salary but I can tell you it’s more competitive than the average uPenn Wharton Grad.
