Ask Mike

mike, are you going to answer the posts that don’t clearly have questions in them (in other words, the posts right above this one)?

You have chemistry with someone you’ve never met over the computer? You need to get out of that hole more often and meet another rabbit and have 843983984 bunnies.

Not - I think its a same that your school made you sit through that test so many times, but I’m impressed in your scores rise.

fhq - All education is important. They say that the last education you get will be the most important for you. For many people, undergraduate education will be the last time they go to school. Others, obtaining a PhD or something like that may be the end, for others, it may be high school. In terms of trying to make money plain and simple, the majority of CCers (including myself) would be better off going to a public school on full tuition, being the biggest fish in a very big pond, and getting placement into a prestigious grad school. However, personally, I would feel unsatisfied going through 4 more years of public school, and I feel that being in a learning environment with people equally as capable as me will make me a better individual as a whole. In the end, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and often times, the friends in college people make go on to be friends in life. That’s why you hear so much about the magic “A” word in reference to undergraduate education. Alumni. Everyone recognizes this, even admissions, one is usually only considered a legacy student if his or her parents or grandparents when to the institution as an undergraduate.
I will say that things on this site tend to get blown out of proportion, but as an actor who likes to make parodies, I don’t see this as too big a deal.

MBP - When I first made this thread, I thought it was going to get deleted, because the mods were on my case and edited it. I think I was banned for 3 days near that time frame. I was looking at Reed College, and I don’t hear bad things about the Portland area. That might be a nice place to raise a family. I can’t tell where my life is going, except next year, I’ll be living in New York City.

Tri - Some schools (University of Michigan) encourage you to take the SAT as many times as possible. I would say 4 times is ok, because one of the times was sophomore year, just make sure you make it count for something.

fhq - when theory and practice collide.

iama - I liked working as a cashier actually. I thought it was great fun. When I worked at a local store, I would try to up-sell the customers, and when I worked a big chain grocery store, they would have printouts about how fast each cashier was going, and I would try to be one of the most efficient. Sadly, local store closed due to illegal activity and big chain grocery store had big Union cuts on my paycheck. I personally liked the job I had last summer, which was working for municipal government. I got to see what government and office life was like at the same time, and I had a penchant for filing. (which explain the filing cabinet I subsequently purchased at Staples) Advice: Go see if the library is hiring, I hear they tend to do stuff based on seniority. Municipal government almost never has kids working as filers so that could be a place with little competition.

snoopy - I don’t mind having groupies. It’s all good.

Venkat - I see no reason to get you classified as a sex offender…yet.

MBP - I have and will continually answer questions.

Venkat - Yes.

Mike,

Why is the humerous called the “funny bone” (other than the obvious play on words)?

Mike,
I live in a country where people are very dutiful towards elders. My parents have supported my grandmother (parternal) since ever (that is. my dad and grandmother have always been able to live together). She is a treacherous women who gets into everyone’s nerves including mine and even curses her own siblings. Many people who’ve been so-called ‘cursed’ by her have died/had a tough life/misfortune too as although the saying ‘don’t screw with elders, they’ll curse you’, despite being superstituous is really popular here. So yeah, is so happens that people who get on her bad side suffer too, including those who aren’t there — the cursed ones meet an ill-fate and the others just get nagged by her and get tortured (mentally). My dad and mom are tired of her and at this rate, they’ll leave the world before she does. They’ve just had so much they’ve lost patience, age, ability to be optimistic. She has been slaving them ever since. Well, problem is, I have more of a non-conservative western style thinking and I don’t give **** to respect elders. I mean, you should only respect those who deserve the respect and she’s evil. She did a lot of evil things including killing my grandfather by tormenting him, ruining people’s relationships, ruining her own one’s prosperous future, marrying off her daughter to a worthless guy and now they’re always begging people for money, and cheating on her husband… and she doesn’t let us live in peace…altways going on about things, cursing and complaining and introducing problems and bringing stuff she need not bother about and stuff that’d give others headache.

So, unlike the rest of the people, most of who don’t have to live with her so just turn a blind eye to the situation while talking behind our backs about her and complaining to us about her deeds and behavior. They’ve also been telling how she says nasty things about us… especially my mom and what’s funny is when people are in front of her, they’re always supporting her and when they’re with us, they’re getting our their own frustrations regarding her. Typical human two-sided nature. So today, I told her these stuff when she got me so mad over a constant nagging that i couldn’t take it anymore. In other words, I told her why I hate her and that others think badly of her as well but they just don’t tell her cause she’s old and will leave the world anyway and so to prevent from getting cursed, they don’t screw with her. sigh She went all like dead? hah I am livng and will live I have my brothers and kids (and I told her they hate her as well but they can’t bring themselves to say it — which is true — my dad hates as well but he keeps himself out by staying at work overtime) and they treat me like a queen. Then she went on and said some really nasty things about my mother and sort of proved that she’s a witch who’d haunt us and never die. Then she said she’d complain to my parents regarding ‘my behavior’ and ask them to rent her her own apartment. I was like, uhh they don’t have the money (which is true). I can’t see why they put up with her, she sucked as a mother, as an educator of children, as a wife, everything (her own mother was more horrible I asked my dad while ago how she was and he said — despite the fact that his grandmother raised him — that he hates her just like he hates his own mother). Anyways, she said she’d complain and have them do something about me and then said she’d call up all her daughters, siblings, grandchildren and ask them if they have any complain regarding how she’s with them. Of-course they are typical ‘superstituous’ and have been brainwashed to respect elders despite how they are (this so called elder has been a ***** always it’s just a coincidence that now when she has someone in her life to go against her, she is old) and to stay quiet and not do what is right and take it — and also they know if they do tell her how they actually feel, their parents will scold/beat them up, others will think bad of them and … well if you see it… their will be an internal war and a lot of disputes as she keeps going on trying to retrieve answers. No one will ever think of sitting together and taking turns telling her problems cause they need not, as they don’t have to live with her and whether they get on her nerves or not isn’t much of problem thereby and the safer route is to stay quiet and not get yourself involved. So, in the battle, she’ll win and I will end up being the bad one just cause people don’t think it’s worth getting themselves involved in and become the bad one. Of-course, they’re the type who is one way with her and different with her haters so they know if they get themselves involved, other backstabbings they’ve taken part in will be out as well.

My granny although old in age is still the strongest amongst her and since she takes all her medication and food properly, it will be a while till she’s out and we’re in peace. What do you suggest I do to restore peace without forcing myself to stand tyranny — which my nature and self-esteem doesn’t allow anyway?

Mike,

You so totally are awesome.

~Snoopizzle da kizzle

Mike, can you explain Bra-Ket notation without using wikipedia?

Mike, I’d like to thank you for all the help you’ve provided.

Venkat: I’m not the one who professed love to Mike and got flat-out rejected. Talk about no life.

o.o

Perhaps he didn’t take it seriously.

Mike, I have previously seen you recommend Bronte and Jane Austen for SAT Verbal section.
What other authors do you recommend?

btw, I am focused on GRE rather than the SAT, but the verbal section is quite the same for both. with the exception of those arcane analogies.

Not - I’ve used that one before, but the funny bone is actually a nerve. And recently on jeopardy.

Did she, what do you mean by that?

You sound like you want to kill this woman, to put her out of your and your families misery, but this would go against a variety of laws. One should respect their elders, and attempt to learn something from them, maybe learn her power of manipulation. You are going to the US soon, so I think you can wait her out. Your story reminds me of Henry David Thoreau’s essay on Civil Disobedience. Thoreau believed that poll taxes were wrong, so he decided that he wasn’t going to pay them. He was put in jail. You can’t stand and take action because you will get a bad fate. What you need to do is apologize for your comments, for reasons of tact. The fact that your comments have been made is enough to shed light on this subject. Try to avoid her the way your dad does, and just wait until you’ll get to college. Then, when you have the resources, come back to your country and sere justice.

I used google ;).

austin - I’m not sure about the GRE, but I also recommend Thomas Friedman and Dickens.

Mike, summer is tomorrow, what should I do? (After the final final)

Mike,

You’re awesome.

~Snoopizzle

Mike,

Are you right-brained or left-brained?
http://www.web-us.com/brain/braindominance.htm

Mike, should I keep using lower case letters OR SHOULD I USE CAPITAL LETTERS INSTEAD, and why? please prepare an essay on the topic providing the proper evidence as well as the sources of that investigation.

Mike, say that if there were three elephants in the woods in yellowstone, and the baby elephant needed to pee, but there was no bathroom to be found, so the elephant turned into a bee and flew far far away to Narnia were it met with aslan the lion and stung him to death, which lead to the defeat of the two sons of adam and daughters of eve, which utimately led to the witch eating Mr. Tumnas (is that correct spelling?) Later the bee would become the queen of all of narnia and would rule it forever and ever turning everyone in it into giant rocks.
If the previous story was to become a movie, would you be willing ot see it in a theatre, if so, how much would you be willing to pay for it (it would be 4 hours long, with no break in the middle).
