Australian Open 2013

Yesterday’s matches were pretty much all a snooze fest, imo - except Sam Stosur’s trainwreck of a match.

Shame Espn didn’t show Tipsy/Lacko. I can’t understand why they continually keep with a boring match when there are good matches going on all over the grounds. Sigh.

You can watch the last game here:

The Baker vs Querrey looked like it was going to be good before Baker tragically hurt his knee. That poor guy can’t catch a break.

This 16 hour time difference is kicking my butt…

I hate it. Matches start at 7 pm and there’s usually only time for one before I have to go to bed. Thank God I’m off next week and can skip sleeping.

Thanks BC, but they showed the ending live, and a game here and there before that. I just wish they had shown the whole match.

dudedad, it’s like having a terrible case of jet lag without ever leaving your home!

Baker must be gutted after all he has gone through to get back on tour.

Yeah, as they say at the US Open, “It Must Be Love”…

I really love the US Open commercial xD I can never find the music that’s in it.

Maybe I’m lying or I never looked before:

lol.

We get to watch the Raonic/Rosol match tonight! Go Milos!

It’s nice that the Canadians finally have a player to root for (my apologies to any Daniel Nestor fan. )

Yes, Emilybee, it’s nice to root for Milos. He’s a lot of fun to watch, especially live. Canadians have had lots of players through the years to root for, but the thing is, they rarely won. ;)

The big problem with the giant players is coordination and stamina. I think that Raonic is in good shape but there’s all of that mass to move around. Berdych moves reasonably well for a really big guy but looks clumsy compared to the top 5. Del Potro, against good players, gets wrong-footed a lot. At the moment, 6-1 to 6-2 seems to be the sweet spot for tennis players.

Watching Serena right now. I don’t see tape or a brace on her ankle so I assume that her ankle is fine. She doesn’t seem to be having any problems with her opponent, dressed in yellow.

Edit: that was fast. Over to Murray.

Yes, all my countrypeople talk about him quite frequently when I go to play. Raonic has had some very good matches the past year- a couple nail biters against Federer and he picked up some titles. I like his game but his movement is somewhat lacking. His R4 at the USO against Murray was okay- pulled out lots of games by virtue of that monster serve but I think he needs to work on the backhand side a bit as well as his movement. Berdych seems so hit and miss at times. He’s an amazing ball striker but he lacks consistency.

I really want Sharapova to defeat Serena, if only to get revenge. She got toasted in the Olympics final (seriously, it was awful) and I’d like her to win a match for once. Federer-Davydenko is promising but it depends on how Davy plays.

I love the “it must be passion, it must be NY…it must be love” commercials  They remind me of everything fantastic about NY and all the great memories. I think our tennis team was considering putting the slogan on our shirts!

I like Soderling too but he’s been sidelined for quite some time. I love his super-closed-stance forehand. I like Sharapova and Serena but I hate watching Sharapova because of her screaming.

Raonic looked strong in that match. Way to go, Milos!

I watched some of the Fed and Murray matches yesterday. What was a little surprising is that they both looked a little bored out there and made some errors or looked like they weren’t trying that hard on some points because they were winning without really being pushed. There were some great shots too but it doesn’t make for great tennis matches.

Felt the same way in the Serena match too.

It was very hot yesterday so why would they expend extra energy trying to win every point?

Tbh, I think most of the play so far has be “meh” and the players dull as dishwater. Where is Marat when you need him!

In general, the top players generally need a tough match along the way before they got to the later rounds or they can run into someone tough and have to crank it a notch on the fly.

I think there will be plenty of tough(er) matches now that they are into the 3nd rd. I don’t think any of those guys are worried they haven’t be tested. I think they are all pretty happy to have gotten through their last two matches as quickly as possible and with plenty of gas left in the tank.

I love Milos :D

Tonight Nishikori is the last match on court so it’ll be too late to watch :frowning: I really hope Kohli/Raonic match is a day time one tomorrow but it screams night match.
