Australian Open 2013

I’m sad to say I’m not loving this AO. Everyone is injured, the top players are having almost no trouble, the time difference, slow courts…

Bring on the French, lol. I signed up for Wimbledon tickets for this year. It’s a lottery and I find out in March.

tx5athome: I agree. You see that a lot - when the underdog goes the distance for the win, they are out of steam the next round.

emilybee: I love Novak but agree that taking the shirt off his unnecessary. Now if it was Nadal  Anyway, I also hate when they fall down on the court after they win. I don’t get it. I’d be jumping up and down. Not laying on the court. Federer does that too.

CSIHSIS: I am hoping I can go to Wimbledon and the French some time. As for now, the US Open is in my backyard and I go every year. This year will be sad as my DS (my US Open buddy) will be a freshman at college. I was hoping he’d apply to my alma matter (Northwestern) which is on the quarter system, so he’d be here for the Open, but he wasn’t interested! But if he ends up at Miami, I will be headed to the Key Biscayne tournament every year - for sure!

^ Why don’t you just queue? I use to when I was a bit younger - usually the first 3 days, although 2001 I did it for the whole fortnight. I even tented a few nights, if I knew I needed CC or Court 1, but generally - just showed up at around 4am.

It’s a blast, too.

I have one friend whose been incredibly lucky the last few years in the lottery but others I know have put in every year and come up nothing.

Well I live in New York so going there with a chance of never getting a ticket is a bit of a waste. And the family I had living in London have moved so every time I have to go to Wimbledon I’d be taking a 2 hour train up from the coast.

I did have tickets for the Olympics though, for women’s singles and men’s doubles finals.

“I love Novak but agree that taking the shirt off his unnecessary”

Well, we agree on one thing. ;)

I live in NY and went for years without ticket. If you queue by at least 5am you are assured of a ground pass - and there is no need to go to CC or Court 1 the first few days. Or just tent. As long as you are set up by about 6p the night before you will get into whichever court you pick.

We always got a rental even if we were going to tent. Had a few mad landladies and a few years we even stayed in the vicar’s house. Staying in the village is so much fun. Lots of players wandering around at loose ends - especially at the Dog and Fox.

You are young. do it while you can.

We are in California, but my sister, mom and older son have gone to the US Open for a couple days the last 5 years or so. I joined them the last two years and loved it! Like Disneyland for tennis fans! We get to a couple days of the Indian Wells (Paribas Open) tournament every year, but I prefer the US Open crowds. When I am done paying college tuitions my goal is to get to Wimbledon, The French Open and the Australian Open.

<- Lives in New York, has been to Wimbledon and not the US Open.

Since we go to England a lot, France isn’t that much more expensive to go to. And since in college the semester ends in May, getting to the French may be possible.

I’m setting my alarm for ~6 am to watch Raonic/Federer tomorrow xD

I think that players like to have their thing when they win. Some get on their knees, some lie down, some turn to all four sides and salute or blow a kiss, some clap their hands against their racquet. The laying on the court thing? Maybe exhaustion after a tough match.

The first few rounds I didn’t care for but there are some good matches. I liked Fed-Tomic, Seppi-Cilic and two other guys that I had never heard of. I’ll watch a few more here and there. Having tennis replay is great - if it’s not a good match, you can always go on to another.

Never been to the Open?!? Gosh.

I have labor day weekend tkts. If we can’t go (sometimes things come up) I’ll let you know - you can have them, or will you be in school by then?

The first three games of Nishikori/Ferrer yesterday were /amazing/ and it was my favorite match so far but then everything turned to ____.

*US Open - School will have started but I plan to take a bus home for a weekend to go. That would be totally awesome, thanks :P

“some turn to all four sides and salute or blow a kiss.”

My least favorite things. Youzny looks like an idiot saluting and I hated when Andre did his kissy thing.

YES - the salute thing is so stupid xD Rosol looks at the four sides of the court and nods which I also hate.

And Serena does a C-walk BAMF

BTW, how do you have tickets already? I thought they go on sale in like June.

I will let you know. They are horrible seats - Row MM. They were good seats when we were in Louie and USTA promised equivalent when they built Ashe, but their idea of equivalent and mine are obviously not the same.

I think I’ve sat in my seats in Ashe maybe 5 times in 15 years and only once for a day match.

“BTW, how do you have tickets already? I thought they go on sale in like June.”

I have series tickets - all 7 sessions (Friday night - Monday night.) Have had them for since 1991. Unless we cancel they are automatically renewed.

Watched the whole Wawrinka match, on the final game now. He had sooooooo many break points in the beginning of the final set -_-

“We get to a couple days of the Indian Wells (Paribas Open) tournament every year, but I prefer the US Open crowds. When I am done paying college tuitions my goal is to get to Wimbledon, The French Open and the Australian Open.”

I go to Miami almost every year. That’s a great tourney, too. Tons of SAm fans make it quite boisterous. Everyone has their flags and chants and it’s a blast.

Oh my God Wawrinka you eve had like 50 game points in this last game xD Still going.

And the shirt is off.

If you are a USTA member, you can get US Open tix in April. We always go the first week and get grounds passes. Grandstand is our favorite.

Is the Fed match 6 am eastern tomorrow?
