Baltimore this weekend

Looking for input from those who live in/near Baltimore. We have plans to meet out of town family near the Inner Harbor tomorrow. I see there are protests and traffic disruptions today - unsure about what will be taking place tomorrow. I am inclined to go forward with plans - they are already in the Baltimore area for another event today. Any thoughts?

Kiddo lives near JHU Hospital. She just texted me that so far, it is bisiness as usual in her area.

Good to hear.

A major mess could still happen later tonight. I heard a snippet on tv that apparently some big protests are planned for later tonight, around 5 or so… Baltimore police are trying to avoid ising the tactics that led to the major mess in Ferguson, but who knows… Told kiddo to stay out of the mess.

Looks like things are turning violent.

Thanks, Rockvillemom. I texted kiddo to stay in her apartment. She is working on some paper, so fingers crossed that it would keep her busy tonight.

its really a shame that the out of control people got involved. It was quite a peaceful protest earlier. it’s cold and starting to rain. Hopefully the protestors will move out before the Os game is over.

Now apparently it’s all clear in Baltimore. Traffic is moving smoothly.

Evening news coverage was not encouraging. Having strong reservations about going to Baltimore tomorrow. Looking at a different location outside of the city perhaps.

I believe this video from this evening would probably help you decide:

The area they are in is University of Maryland at Baltimore, where Shock Trauma is (UM Hospital), and that’s only a few blocks from the baseball stadium. There were problems in bars before the game, and everyone was told to stay in the stadium after the game.

I think the rest of the city would be fine, but it would be hard to be near the inner harbor or other downtown venues.

Exactly. I think the Inner Harbor is out. Scary video interesteddad. Shame it has turned violent.

OP- Since your family is already in the Baltimore area, I presume, an area where they are safe. Can’t you guys meet up there? Or was it the Inner Arbor area you all wanted to be?

D, who lives in the Fed Hill section of Baltimore, just happened to be out of town visiting MIL this weekend. Both of us are very glad it worked out that way. I sent her the link from #9, she recognizes many of the locations as being near Inner Harbor / Convention Center / Camden Yards…

We offered to meet them in Columbia, but now they are just coming to our house. More driving for them - but they know where they are going and my elderly parents will join us now - so it all works out.

Thanks for the input.

DS has his prom this Friday night very near Camden Yards. I am on edge, I think an important report into the situation is going to be released Friday. I hope for a calm week.

Yikes ! I hope things calm down before your son’s prom ^^^ . Very unnerving

My D said that the violent protesters were mainly a group that came from out of town. Hopefully they will leave soon.

Trouble in Baltimore again today. Just got email that DS’s prom has been moved. Teenagers organized a “purge”.

Scary stuff on the news now - violence, looting, etc. in Baltimore. A number of Baltimore area colleges are closed, on lockdown, telling students to stay away, etc.
