Baseball Playoffs

Braves lost. Great season though. Scrappy team.

These series have been pretty boring.

Appears Cora knows what he’s doing.

No longer Rocktober, but now Brocktober.

@momtogkc - I hate to say it but I admire Jeter (not quite like but strongly admire). But I would never wear his gear. Glad you’ll surprise him with Pats stuff for xmas.

@twoinanddone Exactly, turns out Cora is a GENIOUS! Eovaldi was dominant, like Verlander dominant, last night. Totally changed the momentum of the series. Now you have Porcello tonight. Listened to a lot of sports radio on WEEI yesterday - David Price is not loved in New England my friends!

How bout that Brockstar? Incredible ability to come in after sitting several days and hit with impact. He is a professional hitter. They didn’t make much of this with the cycle and all but I was just as impressed with his first AB. Benny on second, less than two outs, grounder to 2B , Benny Biceps moves to third. That’s text book, old school baseball. Benny scores first run of the game a batter later (on a hit, but was in position in case of a wild pitch).

One way to keep your bullpen from killing you is to have your starter go 7 innings.

Eovaldi is an enigma, and apparently something of a Yankee killer. Since August 1, he’s only had three games (counting last night) where he went 6 or more innings. All three were against the Yankees, and in those three games he’s given up 1 run total.

Not sure why Cora burned E-Rod in a meaningless relief appearance, with a 15 run lead any of those bums could have finished out the game.

Hitting for the cycle is cool and all, but does it really count when the HR comes off of the backup catcher?

"Hitting for the cycle is cool and all, but does it really count when the HR comes off of the backup catcher? "

Yes, it does. Yankees have 11 pitchers, but they chose to use a catcher to pitch.

Officially his hitting for cycle counts in the record books, but I’ll put an “asterisk” by his name and accomplishment.

I agree with @twoinanddone. Of course it counts! What an amazing accomplishment.

I was being facetious.

It was moderately smart of Boone to not burn a relief pitcher in a game that was already hopelessly lost.

@rickle1 I actually think Derek Jeter is pretty cool. Don’t tell anyone but I even made Derek Jeter cupcakes for S23’s pre-school teacher a million years ago. She was a huge Yankees and Jeter fan and knew I was a Red Sox fan so she was very touched that I would do that.

Can everyone please stop posting the beautiful fall foliage pictures - you are making me so homesick!

Well that just happened!

I nearly threw the remote through the TV while f-bombing Kimbrel.

It can never be easy with him.

Interesting choice bringing in Sale for an inning. I wonder if that pushes him back to game 2 in the ALCS?

I’m a red sox fan (since age 4 when I went to my first game). I hate the yankees, but I’ve liked several of their players and even a few managers. Not Aaron F. Dent.

But now they can just go away until next year, when we will beat them again.

Starters throw in between starts and he only threw 13 pitches, so he should be fine for Game 2.

Red Sox fans. Sheesh. The only time I’ll root for the Red Sox is if they play the Dodgers.

Unbelievable. For some reason I knew we needed another insurance run. Kimbrel, really. That would have been an epic choke. He gets like that which drives me crazy. Well, you know what…8 more pictures! (if you haven’t seent he video online, it’s awesome!

Wasn’t a fan of Sale coming in but it all worked out. Bullpen, other than Kimbrel - ironically - was great. Porcello was great. Would have kept in in another inning.

Is Kimbrel always like that? He threw something like 30 pitches in the inning, and I don’t think more than 5 or 6 of them were actually in the strike zone. Three of which were put in play.

Although his stats are excellent, he can be hit or miss. With him it’s generally about the first few pitches. If he’s got it, he’s got it. I yell at the TV and say “You’re Craig Kimbrel! Why aren’t you attacking this guy with 99 mph fast balls (he hits spots with them)? Why are you trying to set them up with your slider or curve ball.?Get ahead with the fast ball and then get them chasing.” He drives me crazy.

But next time he comes out he’ll be awesome.

I wonder if the Braves would take Kimbrel back?

Kimbrel is a heart attack waiting to happen. He almost never retires three batters in a row. Very aggravating in a closer.

I’ve always wondered how big an effect the hitting coach actually has on a team’s offensive production.

Well, the Cubs have weighed in. They have fired Chili Davis, their hitting coach.
