We attended i2E this weekend. The Friday night event was a reception with desserts and there was also some charcuterie (we ate dinner before because we weren’t certain if they would have food). Lots and lots of (nonalcoholic) drinks like lemonades, cocoas, sodas, etc. tons of foods from local vendors including cupcakes from Silos Baking co in cute little takeout boxes. There were signs all around the Hurd center with student and faculty reps to discuss areas of interest (Honors college, Business, Business fellows, Computer Science, basically any department or program). This was informational only (no one was evaluating your applicant) and was oriented to woo the applicant to choose Baylor.
Saturday morning had a coffee bar with pastries. The kids went to academic sessions based on the college or program/major they have indicated. My child’s program (Honors) did not have preparatory reading but I heard some departments may have had the reading. Parents had separate sessions about various topics. I really don’t know if they were being evaluated in the breakout group. I think this program used to be different when my older child went (there was an opportunity for a higher scholarship based on evaluation of participation and an essay). Again, this could possibly be different by the department they were assigned.
After the morning session parents had a ticket for free lunch at a food truck. Campus and residence tours were also available with a fleet of golf carts offering rides everywhere we looked.
Overall the event was very well-produced and showed Baylor in a very positive light. We enjoyed learning about all the flexible programs they offer for high achievers.
Hope this helps!
Anyone committed to Baylor? My daughter committed this week. Any words of wisdom are appreciated. Trying to keep up with all the various deadlines for housing, line camp, etc. We are new to this
Line Camp registration opens up tomorrow I believe. They sent out an email the other day.
Housing opens up on May 1st and is AFAIK random, meaning that when you pay your deposit has no bearing on when you get to register for housing. The roommate with the earliest registration gets to confirm for everyone, and your daughter needs to know her first, second and third choices of dorms.
Congrats to your daughter! Mine still hasn’t made up her mind.
Yes that number is initially shocking, but I just don’t think there are very many full pay students at Baylor. Something like 93% get merit and/or aid.
I did see that the guaranteed part is now $7K or something more over list….does that $7K apply regardless of actual tuition cost? I thought it used to be “only” a couple thousand more.
I might be totally wrong, but I thought the guaranteed tuition option was a certain amount over, and then all the scholarships and aid come off of that total price.
But I could be mistaken. It certainly reads on the website like the guaranteed option is full list price + overage.
What has me shocked is that the guaranteed price is like $7K more than list when in the past it has been “only” a few thousand more ? (or so I thought)…
You’re correct, that is a large increase in the differential from years past. That being said, tuition jumped 9.5% from 2024-2025 to 2025-2026.
The guaranteed tuition plan locks in the rate for all four years so you don’t have to worry about year over year tuition increases.
We have an older daughter (current sophomore at Baylor) who selected the guaranteed tuition and currently pays somewhere around $58K per year (minus her scholarships). My memory is fuzzy, but I recall about a $4K or 7.4% differential between posted tuition versus guaranteed tuition. The $7,700 differential today is a 12.1% spread between posted versus guaranteed option for the Fall 2025 incoming class.
This year’s merit and scholarships seemed to be a bit more generous, but they need to be with 9.5% annual tuition increases.
Sorry if I am being slow. Been fighting a near migraine all day.
I asked her AO today but have not really gotten an answer.
So:
If we select the guaranteed tuition option her freshman year, the $71K and change option, we subtract her merit scholarships and grant, and we are guaranteed to pay no more than that all 4 years? Except her grant might change every year depending on what happens with the FAFSA and CCS?
If we don’t pony up that extra $7K ish her first year, then the tuition increase could exceed that amount next year?
