Thank you. Now that we can take a deep breath, we are grateful to have received Merit, but it was not enough to allow us to be as excited as we hoped to be. Do you happen to know how the process moves forward from here with regard to how they process fafsa/css and what one could anticipate in the best case scenario with the final aid offered? Thank you!!

Posting again, I previously posted to wrong thread.

Being this late in January and no notification of acceptance is this a sign that it’s an unlikely Yes ?

Are all decisions made by 2/1 and are announcements on Fridays only, meaning there are 3 weeks left?

Does an email come out Thursday to check back Friday?

The stress is so difficult. We received an email last night (Wednesday)which said to check the portal, so definitely not an “only Friday” release. Wishing you the best & keep us all posted.

Acceptances are not only on Fridays. If you have the email to “check your portal”, the decision is there; they don’t leave you hanging.

If you applied EA, you will have a decision by Feb. 1st. I wouldn’t consider it a no just because you haven’t heard yet. Like many schools, Baylor has most likely received another record breaking number of applications.

Re: money, what I have read (take with a grain of salt) is that Baylor will make tuition affordable for your family if they really want your student to attend. If you have an acceptance without much scholarship money or aid, that’s an indication that your student is not being heavily recruited. Many schools (not just Baylor) use full pay students to cover the cost of high achieving scholarship students.

We also didn’t get the highest level of initial merit money; we got the second tier. Like everyone else, the biggest scholarship is what we were hoping for. With I2E, we are really close to being able to afford Baylor, but we are not quite there yet. Elsewhere people have said that Baylor gives more money to uncommitted applicants towards the May 1 commitment date. I am hoping that is true.

Regardless, we aren’t making a decision about any school until we have the final financials from all of her schools.

How do you know how much the different tiers of merit are? At the other school that my daughter was accepted to, it was super clear, but not with Baylor. I just have no idea what tier she received, which is okay
I just think it’s interesting that it isn’t posted anywhere. We are very curious to see what she gets for financial aid, too.

Every year it varies.

This cycle, the top amount is $120K over 4 years. The second tier is $100K over 4 years. I believe the next level is $80K over 4 years but am not 100% sure. I’m guessing that they continue to go down in $20K increments.

To be fair, Baylor is far from the only school where the merit scholarships aren’t crystal clear. Some schools (a lot of SEC schools) are very clear on merit award qualifications and amounts. Other schools are murky at best. My daughter has been awarded a merit scholarship from another of her top choices, but we won’t know until the end of March how much it will be.

Obviously, all parents and applicants are grateful for merit scholarships, but it is frustrating to not be able to make decisions earlier while we wait to find out if we’re getting $500 or $50,000 or anywhere in between. I definitely wish the process were more transparent and more objective.

Edit: scholarships get more complicated at BU because of I2E and honors and the other programs they have.

Does anyone know how to access a student’s Baylor email address? My daughter has to send an email using her Baylor email address, but she has no idea what it is or how to find it.

Thank you. That helps to clarify. I guess it just happens that my daughter’s other top choices all were very clear on merit. I also wish that they were a little bit more direct about I2E. I know that they get the $20k for attending, but I would like to know if there will be other opportunities for more than that after. I guess we’ll see.

My impression is that I2E is another vehicle to evaluate “fit” (for both the student and for the school.) Some schools care about
“fit”, not just the number of seats filled, and Baylor is IMO one of those schools.

That makes sense. So I wonder if that means financial aid packages won’t come out until after that takes place. She’s going to the February one, so I guess maybe we’ll know more then. Thanks!

Okay, so my son applied to Baylor for RD. Not his top choice, but definitely interested. 2 questions: 1) Will he not hear anything until the ‘RD’ date or later? 2) If he has been issued a BaylorID is that indicative of anything or standard for all applicants under review?

Appreciate it!

My son was accepted last night and the email came about 7:45. Don’t give up hope! He applied EA and is very excited.
