Potentially, I would also offer that Covid threw a money wrench into a lot of the college yields. Many universities gave out a higher percentage of admits than they normally would, because they thought that covid would have a negative effect on actual enrollment. Baylor, and many schools, admitted that they took larger classes during covid and then had to “right size” the next few years to get total enrollment down to more normalized metrics as the covid affected freshman class was larger than expected. Less merit over a few years would result in a lower yield and allow Baylor to get to that targeted steady state of enrollment of 20,000 (give or take).
Admitted!
GPA uw4.0, w4.4ish (high school does not weigh)
SAT 1520
5 APs 9-11th, 5 APs & 1 DE 12th grade (no honors courses offered in high school)
My son applied 10/20 and was accepted 10/25. 50K merit. Would he have already received a DSD invitation if he was going to get one? How long did your DSD invitee wait before they received this update in the portal?
Also, I can’t tell if we are supposed to apply for anything outside of the Getterman, Medical, and Law scholarships. We keep getting prompted to apply for scholarship money but he isn’t interested in law or medical and doesn’t qualify for Getterman. Is there something else we are supposed to be filling out by 11/11??
Distinguished Scholars and Invitation to Excellence are separate programs and a student is invited based on test scores (usually). Students will not be invited to both nor can they choose. The scholarship amounts are different. This year DS is worth $3K a year and I2E is worth $5K a year.
Good news! My daughter has been accepted. Bad news! Even with the scholarship, we may not be able to afford it.
Does anyone know about financial aid from Baylor? We only qualify for financial aid at private colleges.
Baylor doesn’t promise to meet 100% of demonstrated need, so if you already have a significant merit award, there probably won’t be additional need-based aid (though you should check with the financial aid office to confirm). They are, however, known for adding additional merit close to the May 1 enrollment deadline for those who haven’t committed - once admitted students commit elsewhere, the funds that were earmarked for those kids go back into the pot and can be redirected to the remaining undecided applicants. So if Baylor is truly the top choice and finances are a close call, I would not commit anywhere until May 1 and keep checking the portal for additional awards. You could also reach out to admissions later in the spring and explain that another X dollars would be enough to allow your student to enroll. No real downside to asking.
This is helpful, thank you. We are about $10K off (per year) from making it work. My daughter received the $100K award; like everyone else, we were hoping for the $120K. That and Invitation to Excellence would have put Baylor right in our budget.
As it is, she has another merit offer from another school that comes out to a good bit less than Baylor.
So we will see.
Thank you for the info! This is very helpful. My kid is auto admit to UT and A&M, Baylor would be our top choice if COA is on par with UT and A&M.
Anyone else ED and still waiting? Seems like so many were accepted already!
Baylor is my DD’s first choice but she is sure she won’t get in. What do you think are her chances?
UW 3.6
W 4.0
2 APs and a few honors - but mostly regular classes
Once she got on meds for ADHD her sophomore year, her grades got so much better, and she was able to take harder classes. Before that were mostly Bs, some As and couple Cs.
Lots of extra-curriculars and community service, but not president, or any awards
Varsity sports 3 years
Her essay is strong and unique - I think
Out of State from a competitive/rigorous hs, religion major
I have a bit of mom guilt not having her on meds earlier, but trusting God with this process!
My daughter applied for EA and everything was marked as completed. At the beginning of this week, she got a notice that she has to resubmit her transcript. (It wasn’t our fault and her admissions counselor is trying to get it fixed, but who knows what will happen.) In the meantime, she now has a new application at the bottom for science research fellows and some business thing? Are either of these programs worth it? Thank you!
Still waiting here but EA not ED. Applied and complete by mid September.
UW 3.97, W 4.60
over 60 college credits, NMSF
Computer Science major.
Its only one of two schools he hasn’t heard back from, but its his second choice.
Your son will get in, and probably get a lot of scholarship money as well. No worries.
Does anyone have any idea what scholarship opportunities are available for students accepted into the Honors College? My daughter found out last night she was one of 200 selected and that additional scholarship opportunities were available to Honors students, but no mention of specific dollar amounts. I know about the DS and I2E programs, but am curious if anyone knows of other specific scholarships for Honors students (besides Getterman).
Same situation here. In addition, can someone provide input on the benefit of Honors College apart from more scholarship opportunities?
One of 200 selected for the Honors College? Or one of 200 selected to interview for the Getterman Schooars? How did she find out?
One of 200 selected for the Honors College. I believe she got an email.
Randomly checked my daughter’s portal and noted that Invitation to Excellence invites have gone out. She did not receive an email, just randomly checked under the events tab of her portal.
Same. But my son received an email as well as it being in the portal.
My daughter has been selected for I2E! So unbelievably thrilled! Congrats to all who have been invited—see you in Waco!
My D25 was interested in the Medical2Medical program but she just got an email that she didnt qualify. So we have decided to withdraw the application. Good luck to everybody going to Baylor.
