Oh that’s disappointing. I understand that it is highly competitive. This whole process is so stressful! But, I’m sure your daughter will have many other excellent opportunities and choices and will end up where she is meant to be. Best of luck as she makes her decisions.
We got an invite for medical 2 medical. Also torn…reg date is 1/16 for late January event. Will know UT decision by then. Would have Hazlewood benefits at UT which is a tuition free no brainer. Should we register for the Baylor event? If UT would just decide early we could release the Baylor spot to someone else to use.
If you truly don’t know I would not release yet. Our DD was invited to participate but is declining since she was just accepted ED to another school. IMO you have a legitimate reason to take a wait & see approach.
Our daughter received the I2E invitation. Does anyone have any more information regarding the event beyond what was shared in the letter? In doing a little research online it sounds like the Saturday portion of the event is like a competition. Is that accurate?
Have you registered yet? They send more info once you do.
Friday there is the evening reception, plus earlier in the day you can add on things specific to your major. Saturday prospective students break down into small groups by major.
This year it is slightly different because each student who attends I2E is awarded a $20K scholarship. They haven’t done that every year. I believe there are opportunities for additional amounts perhaps based on an essay or group participation…that hasn’t been made clear yet.
From talking with an admissions counselor and asking lots of questions, it sounded like they are handling merit differently this year. I was told that initial merit offers maxed out at $30K, which I believe is higher than past years, and that they are awarding more merit on the front end so that prior to I2E students will have a good idea of what to expect as far as merit aid. I2E is no longer a competitive event but more like an open house and all students will get an extra $5K for making the effort and incurring the expense to attend in person. But that is all the merit aid awarded from I2E unless a special competitive scholarship (like the Getterman Scholars) is involved in the visit.
I was told that there could be other possible merit awards added later such as through the Honors College or departmental scholarships. And there could also be need based awards.
I am excited for my student to attend I2E to get the extra automatic merit, take a second close look at Baylor, and to hopefully connect with some other future or current Bears.
Great info, thanks. We have not yet visited Baylor, so going at all is important for us. More than that, my daughter really wants to do a deep dive into each college she is accepted to, so I2E is the kind of event she needs and wants.
This was a super helpful response. Thank you!
Unfortunately, when my daughter went to R.S.V.P. both sessions are listed as being full. Could this possibly be true?! She received the information at 6 P.M. last night. Very disappointing!
Wow, I don’t know, but that would stink. My daughter RSVP’d last night. I would call on Monday.
I have read about that happening in past years. I would have your student reach out to an admissions counselor and let them know that spots filled so quickly that she could not get one but that she is very interested in attending (and needs that scholarship money to make attending possible) and see what happens.
Thanks for the suggestions! She has reached out to her admissions counselor via e-mail. Fingers crossed…
Update - Our daughter tried the link first thing this morning and was able to register. So very happy things worked out for her…
Excellent news! Happy for you guys.
My older child attended two years ago. He was given some reading material to review in advance and they were placed in groups for discussion. After the event, they had to write an essay about the experience and submit it before a deadline.
I am not sure if anything has changed. He didn’t feel that it was competitive but it was interactive and there were faculty in the groups observing.
Today is Friday Dec 13th, ED deadline is Sunday. Of all the kids I’ve sent to Baylor, this last one is taking the longest to hear back. She applied Sept 4th and still… no change in the portal. When we email the admin, they’re on vacation today… I’ve never seen Baylor decisions come on the weekend… but really, my poor kid is puking from the stress of waiting.
Advice?
I know several who applied early and have yet to receive decisions. I’m sorry to write I think it’s just a waiting game to see who they’ve already offered who declines which opens more spots. I hope someone else has more ideas for you.
It has taken way longer than it did for my 26’ Bear. She did EA and it only took 3 months with great merit. Her little sister applied ED 8/1 and just found out Wednesday-and extremely disappointed in merit. Granted, she and her big sister are diff type of students. To add even more- the one just accepted ED has a twin. She applied EA 8/1 and still waiting. at this point, we just need to know so we can make decisions. Sure hope need based comes up with something-b/c 3 at BU for one year. Yikes.
Thanks for replying. I called admissions and was told that a decision on her application had not yet been made… she said some decisions are set for this “evening’s batch” and that more will come out on Monday, which irks me that they tell these applicants the 15th, which should mean today if they don’t do weekends. For you having 3 bears to pay for, I do know that the financial aid counselors will work with you, both on payments and on giving more money need based funds to your bears. I emailed a LOT and asked for a lot, and surprisingly got it. They also say that if you’re on the payment plan and make at least the 1st payment, that you can spread them out how you need to, even if you can’t make their minimums, as long as all is paid before registration of the next semester with less than $500 balance, you’re good. I know $500 is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount they want, but knowing you can budget over the 5 months helps some. They also don’t charge a late fee on missed or partial payments. In the mean time, my daughter and your twin, we wait. (sighs)
My D25 is on pins and needles and keeps texting me that she thinks the decision will come today. She did ED on 10/31. Hoping and praying for good news for us!!
Just read this - oh boy, so tonight or Monday. Sigh.
