We went to a “beach formal” wedding in Mexico. The ceremony was on the beach…we all walked through sand. It was fun…there was a basket for our shoes before the walk in the sand spot.
Most women guests wore some variation of a sundress…some long, some short, with some kind of wrap or sweater for when the sun went down.
As noted upstream…the reception was not help on the Beach.
I would say…no capris.
Nice linen slacks with a pretty silk top would be nice. I would go for a flowy look…and shoes that can easily be slipped off.
My S got married on what was to be the beach in Vietnam last year at a resort. As we were doing the rehearsal, we decided the lawn might be nicer, and it was, with beach just beyond the lawn. All of us had come from overseas, and most of the guests had gone to Hoi An a day or two prior, and ordered the traditional dress, the ao dai, made from silk. These are long flowing pants, covered by a long split sided top with whatever neckline the wearer preferred. It was beautiful, all the shimmering colors and flowing fabrics. I arrived about 10 hours too late to order something, but later got a readymade cotton flowing dress in Hoi an that is very comfortable and pretty.
Wider leg black linen slacks and a dressy, chiffon or linen top would be a good beach formal outfit if you did not want a longer midi or tea length dress. We see beach weddings several times a week and they vary from formal to shorts!
Those are lovely @great lakes mom. I bet the wedding was lovely.
@gouf78 - no dancing for me probably :(. My husband can barely get around with his walker - sad as he loved to dance.
The wedding is on the actual beach at the resort I’m pretty sure. The reception is on a lawn by the beach.
I’m leaning toward nice pants and a pretty flowy top of some sort. As the brides are wearing pants I think they’ll be ok with that. I’m looking at dresses to see if anything speaks to me. We’ll be driving right by the town i went shopping with my FL friend so I may stop in there on the way. My daughter may come with us and I remember thinking she’d really like those dresses (her husband can’t come because of work and she wasn’t going to because of the cost - she’s about to graduate from grad school - but we are driving and there is a couch in our villa - this way she’ll get to see some family plus meet her future sister in law before son’s wedding in January).
If it is a formal event then I would wear a dress. I clicked on those Plazzo pants to see what they were. Unless you were 5’10" tall, you wouldn’t look good in them, especially with those prints.
I have. The location of their wedding (they have numerous venues) showed both actually on the beach and grass by the beach. The lawn where the reception is is up the road from the beach. I found a resort map and the villa we booked is quite near the lawn (I think - it is a pretty large resort so hard to guage the distances). We are supposed to get a trolley to the wedding but not sure if that is if you are staying at the main hotel or the villas. We booked one of the block of rooms set aside for the wedding.
Hopefully there is some set up for a handicapped person. H can walk short distances with his walker but don’t want him to walk to far and be in pain. I guess he can sit in the walker and the kids can haul him (be nice to have them there to do it instead of me )
My friends D’s had grandma and grandpa of the bride on the dance floor in wheelchairs. They and everyone had a blast. It can be (and was) done safely and with everyone having fun.
I’ve performed a few beach weddings and seen a wide range of attire. I think your idea of nice linen slacks and a nice top and jewelry sounds perfect. I’d also bring a wrap or sweater, as temps may dip after sunset.
I agree black is probably not a good idea. I’m thinking probably beige colored ones. Depends on the top i find of course. I’m hoping something colorful. Haven’t fallen in love with anything yet. It’s not that far away really - 6-7 weeks.
They didn’t mention a wedding registry anywhere in the invitation. Guess I need to ask my sister in law about that.
My go to slacks and long skirts are black or grey or navy. I find it hard to keep light colors clean and dark colored slacks and skirts hide more spills.
Pants color will depend on what I find for a top. I have linen pants in beige, black, olive, brick, pink and blue. The blue is almost a light denimy color so probably not them. I also have some rather colorful patterned ones (blue and white pair and cerise and white - I liked them and bought them but haven’t had the courage to wear them yet but maybe not very formal)
