Maybe I am going to come off as old-fashioned (or something), but anyone else getting Budweiser advertisements at the bottom of their screen (on CC fora) on occasion?
Just seems a little…off…for a website aimed at high school aged kids (who are all presumably under 21).
I “get” that CC outsources their ads, and that they don’t directly control ad content, but I know there is the ability to screen for 21+ ads/explicit content/etc.
Ugh. Agree, but this is the Parents’ Cafe - by default, college parnts are over 21. At least Bud is better than mail order brides that had popped up here in banners a while ago! As far as targeting goes, maybe that football thread has prompted them…
Ahh, I bet it was the football threads! I too am, unfortunately, very well over 21 (;)), but I didn’t know if their ad provider was capable of segmenting THAT well down to the forum (a la Parent Cafe versus Can I Get Into College XYZ Forum or whatever it might be) versus the site overall. I was more curious if it was just ME getting those ads! (As I write this I am being surrounded with Xfinity ads from Comcast. I am already a Comcast subscriber. Alas)
Never seen the Mail Order Bride ads!! I bet those were pretty entertaining!
Not necessarily, romani - in the past, CC topics used to prompt some ads. The mail order brides came up when there was a discussion mentioning that subject in the Cafe. Remember the times we were bombarded with ads with crawling insects? There was a thread on dealing with pests, and boom - on my screen, roaches were hopping left and right. I have not done anything on the computer related to searches for pest control! I think the algorithm must have been re-tooled a bit to better reflect cookies content.
