Berkeley Admissions Released Early?

the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased the names have been erased

If you’re really qualified then you probably were on the list. but the names HAVE BEEN ERASED.

Personally it looked pretty legit. OP said he made an account specifically because he didn’t want to reveal his identity. Everything makes sense. We’ll see on 24th.

Believe me. This isn’t the first time a normal applicant found “the secret path” to knowing the decisions before the time of the actual decisions. And it is an actual directory of the school as well.

Impetuous, I forgot to ask you this earlier. Do you think spring admits were also on that list? I remember seeing that spring admits aren’t on there until September usually. I wasn’t on that list and if spring admits weren’t posted on there, then maybe I am a spring admit.

@JeremyIR

I really do not know. We have 2 more days to go before the decisions so just wait a bit longer. All I think for now is that those that were on the list were accepted.

Still not 100% sure about anything though.

My friend, who was a Cal regent finalist, was called by a regent scholar in Berkeley at 6 in the morning and was told that the people who got accepted was in the calnet database…

Alright. Not too many hours left. Good luck to you all.

^^there it goes.

I don’t have a problem with people doubting something like this, since nothing is true for definite. But at least have some reasonable assertions and instead of saying “this is BS and fake.”

and Haftbefehl, don’t be unreasonable. Your name was probably on the list. the names were ERASED a WHILE ago.

Curious about the exact TIME the names were erased and/or removed from CalNet. That will help some who checked either earlier or later to guestimate there acceptance or not?

^Well the earliest time you can assume was the time this thread was posted,

and if you go back several pages there will be a post that says “the names have been removed.” for the first time. So some time around that will be time the names were erased.

@ Impetuous: I know… just didn’t want to read 30 pages of posts, lol. But thanks.

I wrote this on another thread but thought I would put it here also. I think it is completely inappropriate for those of you who checked other peoples status in the directory when it was up. You invaded the privacy of those applicants. I can’t imagine UC Berkeley administration looking kindly upon those who would do that. And if it was me and I posted how I looked up names of other people in my school, I would remove my post.

dte, I don’t think it’s an invasion of privacy because the names of all students who attend Berkeley are in the Directory as well. They’re just names, not acceptance letters or rejection letters, and it’s not like Cal posted everyone’s e-mail addresses and phone numbers as well (we have no idea how legit that thing was any way). And the way the Directory is set up makes it public information!!

My friends checked my name and it doesn’t bother me a bit. and i’m not trying to “get at you” or offend you in any way. Just wanted to share my 2 cents like you did! no offense meant whatsoever. :)

I still do not fully comprehend the logic behind this.
So, according to Calnet, UCB is thinking that we are 100% sure in attending UCB?

Hell Naw.
It is theoretically impossible that we have 100% yield for Berkeley.

I actually agree with dte. The way you could just find out whether others got accepted to cal was basically by typing their last name and first name…Personally, I think that really invades one’s privacy. It’s great for people who got accepted but how about others who had no names on the list? Cal should have been careful about leaking the whole information and administering its undergraduate admission process…just my personal opinion :)

^ yes, but don’t blame prospective students; it’s UCB’s “fault.” the UC posted stuff publicly so if students wanted to check others’ names, they could. students weren’t hacking into any system or doing anything illegal. I think Cal should have been more careful, but what’s done is done and there’s nothing any of us can do about it except laugh. ha ha ha ha ha! :)

@Haftbefehl, the directory lists names of current students, faculty members, admitted but not registered students, and the list goes on. This information can be found in earlier posts, but basically, if this is true, those who were on it are those who have been admitted but not SIR-ed.

oh no! I’m not blaming students at all. but yeah all we really could do is just laugh HAHAHAHAHA and wait…

@dte It’s ridiculous to expect people not to type in their friends’ names when the opportunity to find out whether they got in is right there at their fingertips. You say it’s inappropriate, I say it’s normal. I would be surprised if everyone on here DIDN’T look up other people on the database. I think the main motive in doing so was to determine if there was anyone they knew who WASN’T on it, so they could predict whether or not the people on it were indeed accepted. If anything, Cal is the one invading people’s privacy by allowing this information to be seen by anyone.

Waiting is hard!
Those kinds of moments prove the idea of relativity for me!!

Hmm I disagree. I think Cal made a technical mistake. But unless your classmates asked you to look up their name, you were invading their privacy, their right to know, first. And I understand that it was done with the intent to find out if Berkeley had indirectly posted acceptance and whether or not, you had gotten in. I can understand the anxiety with the wait, and the hope that finding your name, or your friends, etc. will indicate that you have been accepted. However, Just because Cal made a technical blunder(if they did), and you found it, doesn’t mean that you should exploit it…it does not make it right.
