Hrmm… Which country has the best national anthem?

I nominate Star Spangled Banner and France’s La Marsaillies… or however you spell it.

Hrmm… Which country has the best national anthem?

I like the Star Spangled Banner too. Israel’s Hatikvah I really like too. I remember liking the Argentinian anthem way back when. I’ll look up France’s anthem.

I’ll save you some time: Here’s Frances:

http://marseillaise.org/audio/mireille_mathieu_-_la_marseillaise.mp3

Are you joking, God Save the Queen is the best anthem!!

Have you heard Israel’s anthem sung by Barbara Streisand? :: shudder ::

Anyways… God Save the Queen’s really… originally, it wasn’t even the national anthem. They just sort of did it on precedence…

its a traditional song that just developed into our anthem bc everyone sung it, it wasn’t just chosen randomly, that makes it cooler

Fine. The Red White and Blue take the lead in best National Anthems:

God Save the Queen (UK)
The Star Spangled Banner (USA)
La Mar… forget it, I’m not even gonna try(France)

Hatikvah is really good, both the music and lyrics. I’m not sure about the French one, though.

God Save the Queen (UK)
The Star Spangled Banner (USA)
La … I’m not trying this (France)
Hatikvah (Israel)

Mexicanos al Grito de Guerra

The Mexican national anthem!!! most basass anthem ever.

My top three:

1) Lebanese (I am biased, but it is quite nice…especially if you understand the words!)

http://tyros.leb.net/anthem.html

2) French (La Marseillaise. Although those b@stards colonized us, their anthem is pretty nice! LOL Kidding, I actually think highly of the French)

3) US (Star Spangled Banner)

Is it just me or is the French NA overly agressive, especially for a country that…

Barbara Streisand sings the best version of French national anthem. She gives it that elitest attitude that the French anthem would not be complete without.

France’s national anthem is a result of the French revolution…which was, in of itself a very violent and bloody period in history. But you seem to think the French are a weak people. Do not confuse their unfortunate debacle in 1940-1945 with weakness. France has been a major power in world affairs since the 1600s and that’s coming from a person who is not particularly fond of their history.

Uhh… France has suffered more military losses than that… but any major power has throughout the course of their history… I mean, how many times has America gotten its butt kicked?

// And I mean this BEFORE we became the world’s largest superpower… remember all those battles we lost in the Revolution? We won with France, of course… Vietnam is also a gloomy reminder of our losses… and please, don’t turn this into a political thread.//

God save the Queen still beats any anthem

Tlaktan, France has natural borders with all of Europe. A country of 60 million has land borders with 6 countries that have a total population of 200 million. The US, on the other hand, shares its continent with just 2 other nations and outnumbers them 2 to 1. It is an unfair comparison.

As you point out, France has sufferd several military losses. Its greatest was 1940-1945. They also lost in the Franco-Prussian war (1870-1871) and in the Napoleonic wars (but that was all of Europe against France). But that’s in over 1,500 years of history.

And as much as you would like to downplay it, whether you hate them or not, France’s help to the colonists in the war of the 1770s was invaluable. Without France’s help, the colonies would never have beaten the British. Half of the 12,000 soldiers who died in the American revolutionary war were French. Most of the great strategist who helped wage the war were French. And most of the weapons the colonists got came from the French.

Well my friend showed me his anthem and I thought it was VERY nice and sophisticated. One of the best I heard. This was the anthem before the 1979 Iranian Revolution (Iran during the time of the Shah) when it was America’s CLOSEST ally in the entire world!

Check it out: The Iranian National Anthem:

and scroll down [very short], and click on “Ey Iran” on the bottom right. You have to have REAL player to listen to it.

I just heard the French national anthem, and wow, that was something…very nice…

But my vote still goes to the Iranian National Anthem, next to Star Spangled Banner.

I FOUND the best version of it [crystal clear]. It’s real hard to get a clear, good sounding version since it is old and it was during the time of the Shah.

<a href=“:: Pars Times | Greater Iran & Beyond”>www.parstimes.com/audio/eyiran.ram

you need real player. if this doesn’t work, go to <a href=“:: Pars Times | Greater Iran & Beyond”>:: Pars Times | Greater Iran & Beyond;

then scroll down a bit, and click on “Ey Iran Sorood”.

This along with Star Spangled Banner are absolutely beautiful…

Hatkivah doesn’t even compare with the Iranian anthem [nor does God Save the Queen…].

The Iranian anthem truly is a classsical, sophisticated piece of work

i love the puerto rican national anthem, but then again i’m puerto rican. but its awesome if you can understand the lyrics.

i like the 2nd half of the us na and the french na isnt bad either.
