Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

I also just finished “One Day” on Netflix and liked it a lot, although it did have a big twist I did not see coming.

I read the novel and saw the film so I’m guessing what twist you mean and it’s a twist I could have done without (… or as a " skipping to July 25, 2019" twist…)

The reviews I read said the TV series is better than the film, mainly because they have more time to tell the story.

That’s surprising to me! I’ve been watching several series on Prime lately and I haven’t run into this at all. I wonder if the device matters. I’ve watched on a Vizio smart tv and on a Fire Stick.

Interesting. Now that I think about it, it seems like the issue started after they added advertisements to Prime. I’ll have to Google it and see what I can find out.

I finished Season one of The Diplomat a couple of days ago. Really enjoyed it. Though I was mad when I finished bc I thought there were more seasons available! :sob::cry::weary:. Hope season two comes out soon. I would really be happy if a certain thing happened during the last episode bc … well, I better not say.

So, does anyone have any recommendations for mystery, police, or drama shows on Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, PBS, or Britbox? Probably shows that are less well known as I’ve watched most of the more popular shows in those genres. I’ve started but haven’t finished Reservation Dogs, Call the Midwife, and Endeavor. They don’t hold my attention for more than an episode or so, so It’s going slowly. I want something that’s going to reel me in.

Vera (British detective, many episodes, many seasons) is on Amazon Prime.

We are having fun catching up with Fargo. We are in season 3 on Hulu.

Have you seen the Terminal List with Chris Pratt? Thought that was pretty good. Just one season so far.

My favorite, though it’s pretty grisly, but definitely mystery, is From. But that’s on MGM+

We’ve been totally sucked into a Spanish police show called Estoy Vivo. Well more police show meets The Good Place with elements of sci fi. It’s a really nice ensemble cast.

PS Thanks to whoever it was on this thread who recommended it! I think @skieurope ?

Thanks, I’ll give them a look.

Thanks! Sounds interesting!

We did like starting Silent Witness at Season 1. But the characters did get switched up over time… different places you could dive in.

Started watching Vigil, a thriller series 2 on Peacock. So far, so good.

This time, the investigation took the lead detective to a fictional Middle Eastern country. It was interesting for me to see how drones carrying bombs and missiles worked. (read about them in news many times these days).

It did annoy me to see a pregnant police sergeant running around and climbing a high-rise (better than an MI5 agent).

Did you ever see “The Fall” with Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson? It’s older but really good.

Not sure “The Detectorists” meets the criteria of “mystery, police, or drama”. Great show but it’s about metal dectectorists. It’s a sweet wistful comedy.

For police dramas I recommend “No Offence” on Brit Box. A little gritty but funny and not too downbeat. I loved “Happy Valley” too but it was fairly dark.

We also went on a little Martin Freeman kick and of his police dramas I would recommend “A Confession”. We also enjoyed “The Breeders” family drama he stars in. And we’ve making our way through his season of “Fargo”.

I thought the early seasons of “Bosch” were ok and especially enjoy how LA has a starring role, but the later seasons and “Bosch Legacy” were so bad we just watched it to make fun of it.

Really liked “The Unforgotten”. Nicola Walker also stars in “Annika” which is a little lighter but good. Have you watched “Last Tango in Halifax”? She’s in that along with a host of other fine actors including Sarah Lancashire (“Happy Valley”). It’s pretty soapy but good.

I like “Vera” but it’s like candy — not too much substance there. “Shetland” is pretty similar but great scenery.

I adored “Reservation Dogs” and think it’s criminal it didn’t get an Emmy. You might give it another go. It’s such a good show.

Thanks for the suggestions !

“The Detectorists” sounds fun. I like rockhounding so I’d probably enjoy watching their version of treasure hunting.

“No Offence” and “Happy Valley” have seen both and loved them. I love anything with Sarah Lancashire.

“A Confession”. “The Breeders” “Fargo”. Will give these a look!

“Bosch” - seen all. Enjoyed, but his demeanor got old sometimes. I have read about his real life tragedies so possibly it’s not all acting.

Unforgotten”, Annika”, Last Tango in Halifax” - seen all, and loved them. Love Nicola Walker.

“Vera” “Shetland - seen both and loved.

“Reservation Dogs” - I really like Reservation Dogs and I’m sure I’ll finish it. I worked with Native Americans my whole career, and grew up in Oklahoma. The show is very true to the culture and experience of NAs. It’s just that sometimes I prefer something with more thrills and excitement.

That’s cool! My grandfather worked on reservations in Montana and North Dakota. He helped native Americans with agriculture.

I appreciate all the ideas for police/mystery/drama shows, and will check out several, but I have a different question: I am on the last season of Friends (missed it the first time around) and am going to miss having a comedy series I can rely on for lots of laughs in each show. Previous ones were Schitt’s Creek, Big Bang Theory, and Silicon Valley. Any ideas for good one on Amazon Prime, Max, Hulu, Apple TV?
